I did not use this in a car, but in a high-end sound system for church services. There was a loud hum from my PC to the sound board and the ground loop isolater from RadioShack took the hum completely out. I expected it to diminish the hum, not take it out completely. Pleasant surprise.
Cleans up noise when connecting your computer to your radio.
I brought a Harmon GPS 810NA with the audio out and wanted to connected it to my Jensen 9311 dvd/radio. When I connected everything I had this annoy whinning sound coming from my radio. Plugged in the Ground Loop Isolator and the whining sound was gone instantly. Saved time and money.
This unit interfaces perfectly with ANY standard and high end Car Audio System, unless, of course, you have a hacked and ham fisted uneducated unconventional install - then you will be in adapter hell - again. Install it correctly the first time! Don't buy Junk!
The noise filtering(Suppression)of this unit is as good if not better than some of the high end units. Good Job R.S.
it worked fine but i had to get two rca couplers to make the right connection at the amp double male ends should have male amd female ends on it
I had installed a computer in my car with an 8" touchscreen to play all of my music(mp3car.com), no need for CD's. I got everything installed and looking good, but I had this humming noise when the car was not running and a wining noise when the car was running. This little thing fix the problem, no more noise. If you are getting noise when you connect you PC to your radio, get one of these! It works!
Had nasty hum when I hooked my PC to my stereo. This little puppy fixed it right up. Even tried putting the stereo and PC on the same outlet before buying this product, that didn't work.
This product is amazing at getting rid of all noise/feedback coming from my laptop into the home theater system. This product still gives (maybe even improves) HIGH QUALITY SOUND! Love it! Just doesnt have enough adapaters, had to buy one extra at only [$], WORTH IT!
Had computer noise/hum from my laptop to my Amp+Mixer All in one, this eliminated the hum or computer noise. Purchase 3 more for my other computer systems.
I have been connecting a laptop to an audio receiver for use in a home theater when streaming video. The AC adapter would send an annoying hum and screech when attached to the laptop. This little gem worked like a charm. The 1/8 inch adapter was a nice freebie too. Male to male connections, though, so make sure you use it in the right application.

Had a low frequency hum when running audio from my PC to my stereo receiver. This ground loop isolator did the trick for me -- no more annoying humming!

Connect this between your noisy computer and mixer/powered speakers and enjoy the silence.
I have a guitar effect box that one end was connected to an instrument amplifier, the other end to a laptop USB port for recording audio on the computer. When I plug in the laptop power supply, it generates a strong humming noise in the instrument amplifier. As soon as I removed the power supply, all was quiet. Since I can't run it on battery whenever I'm doing recording, I searched around the internet and found this ground isolator device. I bought it, connect it between the instrument amp and the effects box, the noise was immediately cut off. Amazing. Works as advertised. (Has not confirmed if there's loss in audio fidelity, though).
Was getting hum via the sound output when I hooked a DLP projector up to the laptop. I put this device in between the laptop and the amp, and it worked like a charm.
THIS PRODUCT IS GREAT WHEN YOU CONNECT YOUR PC AUDIO OUTPUT TO YOUR STEREO EQUITMENT I WAS GETTING A HUM WITHOUT THIS PRODUCT. WHEN I MADE CONNECTION NO MORE HUM
Using one of these Ground Loop Isolators with a Mini Recorder Control (43-1237), a 1/8" phono coupler, and a 1/8" phono (mono) to dual RCA adapter, I am able to easily record and hear phone calls through my computer. Bravo for Radio Shack adapters!
I docked the product 1 star because it only comes with 1 RCA-to-phono adapter. In order to use the Ground Loop Isolator between my computer and a Mini Recorder Control, I needed 2 additional adapters. Fortunately, they all work brilliantly.
I have a Part 15 AM transmitter on my roof. In the audio chain of my station I have three grounding points, two computer sound cards, and 50 feet of audio cable. With such a setup, I guess you are destined to have a hum problem. This product totally eliminated it. Just amazing. My audio is now as clean as the 5,000 watt local.
I have my PC & stereo about 60 feet away from each other. As a result, I was getting this irritating hum. I connected this device between the PC & stereo. The hum is completely gone with NO LOSS of music quality.
Reasonably priced, easy to install and it reduced the hum from audio output of my LCD TV to input to preamp. Need a female to female coupler to install.
Had a constant low volume static/hum out of my DJ system using a mixer and laptop computer. Unplugged the laptop to operate on battery power and the static was gone. Installed the Ground-Loop Isolator between the mixer and the powered speakers and the static is completely gone with the laptop plugged in!
I took the thing back, and bought short shielded
RCA's (Radio Shack's Gold Series) to replace my old
ones, and that completely eliminated the noise --
even though i'm almost completely sure the problem
was ground loop. (unplugged off one of the components,
and noise was gone)
Bottom line -- go for more shielding if you can.
It's more expensive, but worth it.
Have a 2004 Pacifica with a factory DVD/CD Player. It has 3 RCA female jacks. Just connect it to the device ( MP3 Player, etc.......) The audio is clean and clear. Best [$] you will ever spend.
This device is used between the laptop I use for shows and the mixer. It is not necessary at some venues I service however it's better safe than sorry. This device will also serve some protection aginst a power spike in the audio lines or shorts from component to component.
If you still have hum or hiss after installing this or you loose any aspects of your music or audio program the fault is typically somewhere else in your system. Check other connections for proper polairity and that they are clean and make good contact. It can also be possiable that you need more than one down your audio path.
Does not eliminate, but extremely reduces humming noise; well worth the cost.
I used this isolator between the cable tv box and the home theater. completly eliminated the hum in the speakers.
I purchased this to resolve a groundloop problem I was having with a device I use on my computer for recording my own guitar music. I shopped around and found this was the cheapest audio isolation transformer I could buy, so I wasn't expecting much. Well, I am happy to say this thing works beautifully. My noise issue is gone and doesn't degrade the audio even when playing full range, commercially produced songs through it.
I've used several of these devices at Saint Leo University to eliminate hum in many audio application with great success.
In regards to the previous comment about losing the vocals & bass frequencies: use a continuity tester to double-check the wiring & adapters. That situation will occur when your left & right signals are summed to mono, and one of the left/right signals is also out of polarity with regard to the other (signal & ground are reversed on one of the two channels). Depending on their quality, an isolation transformer (what this device is) may slightly reduce the very high or very low frequencies, but won't eliminate bass frequencies, cut vocals or change the stereo "image". Look for a reversed cable or incorrectly wired adapter somewhere. Best of luck to you.
I have a 2007 lexus is 250. I had a stereo store install my sirius sportster through the ipod port. I was getting a high pitch humming noise that no one could figure out (it got louder as i accelerated). Finally, someone at radio shack suggested the ground loop isolator. They hooked it up directly from the sirius to the ipod jack, and it completely eliminated the noise/feedback with no loss of sound quality. great product!
I used the device to get rid of the electrical interference caused when I connected my MP3 player (hooked up to my radio via a wired FM transmitter) to the cigarette lighter. It does its job nicely but as mentioned before, the sound quality is affected, too. Fortunately, I could compensate for it somewhat by using the built-in MP3 player equalizer.
Completely eliminated the slight, but very annoying, hum on my home stereo when playing music from my computer. No loss of sound quality that I can tell.
Completely eliminated all the noise in the system... but also eliminated most of the vocals and the low pass frequencies (bass).
Cleaned the winding buzz heard on my Sirius Sportster when I accelerated. Simple to install. I fyou have noise when you press the gas on your MP3 or Satelite radio (or any 3.5mm audio connection) this cleans it right up.
If you are tired of searching for that bad ground causing that annoying wining noise, the Ground Loop Isolator can kill all that. Peace.
This worked perfectly to remove the hum when connecting my PC to an external amplifier for music. However, both ends of the wires are male! Had to buy a female to female coupler so I could use it!
This ground loop isolator will eliminate your ground loops (great for cars) at the expense of your audio quality. Granted, some people may not notice but I do - it puts out a flat, tinny sound which, when compared to the whine it eliminates, isn't worth the cost.
WORKS GREAT WITH HOME THEATER CONNECTION WITH MY COMPUTER. SOUNDS GREAT AND WILL PROTECT YOUR SPEAKERS FROM DISTORTION.

I use this on my home theater system which has a grounded receiver and a grounded tube amp on the same circuit. Even though I use a power conditioner which eliminates a lot of the hum, it's still very noticeable. Unfortunately, this isolator product cuts the signal level significantly so that I must turn the tube amp really high to match the receiver's multi-channel output. This causes the tube amp to produce a noticeable hum which kind defeats the purpose of the isolator. It also creates a dangerous situation if I forget to turn the volume level down before switching to another input on the tube amp. Beware of the other reviews which say it doesn't degrade performance - it most certainly does!
The white channel was dead out of the box. Test it before you leave the store.
I used this device between my Garmin Nuvi 350 portable GPS navigator and the AUX input plug of my 2005 Honda Gold Wing. Completed eliminated all of the loud ground loop hum and noise. Worked perfectly!
If your getting a hum between two audio components this will take care of the hum.
I not only use this cable to elimanate noise from my computer to the sound system's speakers, but I also use it to elimanate the hum and buzz while recording sessions onto my computer. Works Great!
Used between Rotel integrated amplifier and Sunfire powered subwoofer. Amazing result - hum is only audible when standing right next to the subwoofer.
Used between my computer and intergrated amplifier system. Completely eliminated all hum and did not sacrifice sound quality...worked perfectly.
Does not work well with a MP3 player hook up. Eliminated the vocals in the music.
used for intercom between main console and the 250 watt pa amp. stopped the hum totally.troubleshot the system for hours before this was installed.good job.
