Comments about RadioShack® JPEG Color Camera Board:

no idea how to access data without first sending to SD. there should be an example for accessing highly compressed (very low res) data directly on arduino or streaming to computer.

UNO - YES, MEGA - NO

By Jim the Runner (good one)

Comments about RadioShack® JPEG Color Camera Board:

I'd stay away from this if you're unfamiliar with Arduino hardware and software. For whatever reason, I couldn't get the example sketch working. Had to get someone else's project code to make it work. Anyhow - it does work on my UNO. I believe there is a SPI bus incompatibility with the MEGA. I have a perfectly good working MEGA (with SD shield) and perfectly good working UNO (with the same SD shield). I do a direct swap-over from UNO to MEGA.... the sketch runs just fine (LED indications)....but nothing gets written to the SD card.

Comments about RadioShack® JPEG Color Camera Board:

It was really easy to get the camera up and running on my arduino mega using the default UART data transfer mode (using the TX/RX lines). I haven't had any luck getting the board to transfer the camera buffer over the SPI bus. It would be very helpful if someone could provide some example code. According to all the documentation I've found, I'm commanding the device to transfer of SPI, but nothing seems to work. Might be defective. Any support from radioshack would be appreciated.

Folks, it doesn't hook up to a computer running Windows, nor a Macintosh. It is for use with an arduino. Radio Shack sells arduinos. Do a web search and learn how to use it. I'm over 50 years old, this stuff is easy.

Comments about RadioShack® JPEG Color Camera Board:

I bought this for my son and I to put together. The camera has a novice rating. I didn't know that I would have to learn computer programing in order for it to work. I do not know what sketches are or where to find certain libraries from. All help I have tried to find has turned up nothing. I am most likely doing something wrong but can not get the guidance to figure it out. Definitely not something for a novice

After reading the instructional PDF, I am still uncertain about using the video output 'mode'. Specifically whether or not it requires any coding/sketches/whatever... And if so, then I need to find this code... Excuse my noobishness.

Comments about RadioShack® JPEG Color Camera Board:

The box states "Transforms into a barcode reader when used in conjunction with a touch shield", however they provide no code to do this. Further research shows the camera can *ONLY* output JPG compressed images, and an Arduino doesn't have the resources to decompress a JPG to perform barcode decoding.

In short, don't advertise features that cannot be achieved with the product.

Comments about RadioShack® JPEG Color Camera Board:

i bought this thinking i could use it as its stated on the package as a wifi camera. (obviously with the requirment of a arduino and networking capable shield) only to find that there is Zero documentaition on the web to support this. the provided documentation for the camra available for download was of no help either. it only talks about how to use it to write a photo to the sd card and discusses the communication protocal. which that documentation is also incompleate.

I would like to see links or downloads for "Working" Sample code to support the "Claims" this product boast's as well as many other products radio shack provides.

Radio shack used to be one of the absolute best places for hobbyist's to goto, (been a customer for over 15 years) and i am deeply hurt that radio shack has allowed them selfs to lose the Mega Star customer support that they used to provide for there various Products...

We have evaluated the review from ElectroTinkerz of Houston. After some internal debate, we will agree that he is technically correct. While we deem it a fine line, we have changed the name from camera shield to camera board. We apologize for any confusion and inconvenience.

Note: A rating is required to submit a review. RadioShack chose the 3-star middle rating, because we felt we should remain neutral. This rating does *not* indicate our assessment of the product's value and reliability.
