Folks what you have here is the future. This could be the best thing you could ever expose anyone to especially someone creative. If you let the hydrogen maker cycle almost to the end than quickly shut it off and immediately turn back on and than let it run till it tells you to launch you will find that it will work much better than just running it through one cycle. Once I ran it and stopped it 3 times and by the time it launched it went so high I couldn't see it Really cool, and best of all it landed within 20 feet of launch pad when it descended back to earth. Make sure your using ALKALINE BATTERIES Don't use heavy duty or el-cheapo batteries . Learn how to make this rocket work learn about hydrogen, listen to the monolouge presented during the production stage because the possibilities of the gained knowledge could be endless and keep in mind when a combustion engine burns hydrogen the only pollutant is steam. Wakeup America . This rocket could plant a seed in a young mind that could change the world..

First of all I bought this to learn the secret of hydrogen production. Think about it on a larger scale you could drive your car down the road using hydrogen gas and put out no pollutants. To the disappointed buyers Did you buy high quality alkaline batterys not heavy duty el-cheapos but alkaline . Does your rubber orings seal to prevent escape of hydrogen as its being made? Is your hydrogen maker bubbleling alot towards the end of cycle (no bubbles than no hydrogen produced) Here is a tip disassemble enough to cut wires to speaker so you don't hear the repetative guy. Second run the cycle until you are suppose to launch than shut it off and quickly turn back on and run all the way through cycle again (produces twice as much fuel) than push the launch button . Mine has shot up to the point that I couldn't see it anymore but it landed within 20 feet of takeoff diameter. This occurred after cycleing on off twice instead of once like I suggested earlier. Did you know that when you run hydrogen in a car the main byproduct at tailpipe is steam. WAKE UP THIS TOY IS A LEARNING TOOL I will include video in very near future

Worthless Toy

The filament in the Fuel Generator broke just like an old light bulb after the third attempt. Worthless and my son was very disappointed as he spent his hard earned savings on this piece of trash!

Worked fine- every launch no problems
By Science guyVerified Reviewer from Rio Rancho, NM on 1/31/2008
Pros:
Easy To Use, Interactive
Cons:
Repetative dialogue
Best Uses:
School
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The only problem I have is the repetative dialogue during the launch, and the Estes web site said 200ft launch. We got ours to probably 100ft. My 2 boys- 8yrs, and 10yrs loved it and whenever I bring up launching the rocket, they are there. I recommend using it over soft ground, as it comes down kind of fast, and the rubberized nose takes quite a hit, although it is rather lightweight, and is durable enough so far.

Keep at it!!

OK, the first launch did not get off the pad. Second launch went maybe three feet off the pad. But the third and subsequent launches went MUCH higher!!. I think the hydrolysis elements need to be saturated a little longer than in the instructions. I plan to use it in my HS Chem classes to demonstrate hydrolysis. The downside is that the repeating monolog is a bit tedious after the second launch.

My (7) year old daughter was so excited to get a rocket for Christmas that is what she had ask Santa for. [...]. We could only get it to go about six feet in the air. We were very disappointed with it's performance. We have tried several times with no avail.

Wouldn't work
By PoBoy from Tallahassee on 12/27/2007
Cons:
Difficult to Use, Fails to launch
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Tried numerous times to launch without success. Each launch requires a three minute "generation" cycle with the same annoying recorded "facts" playing. Not for the impatient.

Didn't work and more
By Mom of two kids from Sunny California on 12/26/2007
Pros:
Cheap, Interesting concept
Cons:
Boring, Didn't work, Long launch sequence, Muffled computer voice, Poor Construction, Poor Ergonomics, Repetitive talking sounds
Best Uses:
Return to store, Trash can
Describe Yourself:
Beginner
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

each time you set it to launch, you have to listen to several minutes of the EXACT same muffled computer monolog on using hydrogen for fuel. The first time, it was OK. The second time it was repetitive, after that it was ludicrous. And, the thing never even launched off it's pad. It was defective.
