The dragonfly is challenging but flys well.It's not a good flyer if used in wind sronger than 3 MPH because of the strong,thin plastic sheets that cacth the wind.I use mine mainly indoors but i tryed it outside and that's fun too. I don't see how other people break theirs.All in all the dragonfly is a great toy for kids and adults alike.

i use this ornithopter for flying... duh! this is not a helicopter or an airplane, it is called an ornithopter. It uses flapping wings to move forward. the reason for the propeller on the tail, is almost all small rc planes/ornithopters/helicopters turn better in one direction, due to torque. the propeller makesit so that it can turn in both directions. a reall treat compared to other rc flyers. if you want a really high quality airplane, you will have to spend about $100, so this is a real deal!
It takes a while to charge for a short flying time. It is made from very durable material. I really like it. It scares little chidren as well.

I bought two of these on clearance from a local retailer.
At first I absolutely hated it, thinking it was a piece of junk. Then I waited till almost dark when there was no wind and tried again.
Once I figured out how to control it I realized that this has to be one of the most fun RC toys ever made.
Having gotten used to flying RC Helis I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly these charge up vs their flight times. On average we get 10 to 15 minutes flight time on a 20 minute charge.

Very fun toy. Best for outdoor use, with NO wind.
5 reasons why not to get it:1.if winds are 1mph or more, it simply will not fly. At all.2.you charge it for 20 mins. you only get 7 minutets AT THE MOST of flight time.3.yes, the wings have carbine fiber...rods.there are two carbine fiber rods, and then there is just flimsy paper.4.turning. the turns arent as crisp as they are on the commercial.5. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT UNLESS YOU HAVE A BIG BACK-YARD OR FRONT YARD!!!!!if you have any responces, email me [@]

Needs a bit of practice as every remotely controlled fly, still a lot easier than planes or even helicopters.
I would like the battery to be exchangeable to extend flight time by swapping to another pre-charged one.

This product is very good, it flies really good indoors with the tail ribbon.It can also fly good outdoors too, but if there is even 2-3mph winds, it wont fly that good.but it does get fun once you get used to it!

This is an awsome flying insect! i immediately put on the ribbon on it, and it flew very slow. The contoller has a beginer mode and expert, beginer is it is more smooth when turning, and expert turns alot faster. It flys really good indoors on begginer mode, but it does suck when it's windy. Also when your kind of high, on expert mode, shut off the engines and turn in any direction, keep turning until half way down, than throttle up.this plane is very durable, the body is made up of EPP foam, and the wings are made of this very flexible plastic, which feels kind of like paper but is very durable.this is the coolest plane like creature i have.
it looks easy to fly but it takes practice. verry easy to recharge and its verry portable. my antenna got bent easyly so be verry carefull when its extended (i had to get a new one). its durable but it can get hurt easyly.

I gotta tell you, I was skeptical. I have owned several RC aircraft in the past, some toys as the Dragonfly, Micro Mosquito, Havok or the Starscream, some the real deal. I was mainly looking for something cheap that could actually fly in my living room during severe winters, and this is it. The flight is stable (but a bit pendulum-like) It turns fine in either direction. Climbing is achieved by making wide turns or flying straight. All you need is a little tap on the turn stick to make it go. Do not hold the stick down, or it will barrel downwards. As a indoor toy, this is one heck of an achievement, being able to fly so stable in such limited environment, be so sturdy, and being able to take off and land on a 2 foot table. But, it might not be good for beginners. It doesn't behave like a helicopter and neither like a plane. It's something weird, something in between, and it takes a huge amount of crashes and practice to get it right, or just a little more experience. Definitely not for your 5 year old, but it might be a great gift for yourself. Loads of fun.
what people dont get writing these bad reviews is that out of the box it is going to crash, its the ame thing with a lot of flying RCs you have to get used to how they work before you get good at them, mine crashed every time i used it when i first got it but a week or two later after useing it a bit i can do flips with it file launching it and actually get it to do 90 degree turns and fly right, before you bash the thing use it for a wile, liek all things you have to get used to how to use it

I feel compelled to write this review especially after reading so many POSITIVE reviews for this toy. There are several reasons why I believe it is a waste of money, but will try and keep it to a few main reasons why I think the box/instructions mislead the buyer into thinking that this toy is fun and easy.
First off, if you enjoy charging your toys repeatedbly each time you want to play with them, then this is for you. The manual says, "charge for a minimum of 20 minutes with a charge lasting approximately 7 minutes of fly time"...yes, 7 minutes. Next, it says it can fly easily in small spaces - this is absurdly false. I don't know what their definition of a 'small space' is, but if it isn't in a room 20x20 without furniture, then forget about it. Now, if they mean fly it in small spaces for less than 2 seconds of fly time before it crashes, then this would qualify I suppose. The fact of the matter is, this toy can't just 'hover' which I thought it might since it bosted it flys just like a dragonfly. Nope, if you don't clear a long runway before you launch it, expect it to crash within a couple of seconds, pick it back up, and repeat....this was very frustrating and quite honestly, no fun at all.
We then proceeded to take it outside to test it out. Ha! If you have ANY wind > 3 or 4 mph, then expect the wind to take it and do whatever it wants to do with it - it simply isn't heavy enough or powerful enough to overtake the wind.
All of these positive reviews must be coming from people associated with building/inventing it.
Great adult entertainment, but must caution that it is very appealing to real predatory birds, as a hawk swooped down and stole mine mid flight!!!

This is the coolest flying toy ever! My wife got me this for Christmas. I am 41 and love to go out in front of my house and fly it up and down the street and around the yard. It does take a little bit to get it fly right, but once you get the hang of it it's really fun. With the tail attachment on I can set it on the sidewalk and take off from there, it will only nose dive and flip over without it.

I didn't fully appreciate the Dragon Fly until it fluttered around the ware house at work. The controls were excellent and the LiPo battery lasted quite a long time. The electronic technology required to make it work is phenomenal. I have an RC helicopter with cyclic and collective pitch which is a pain to learn. The Dragon Fly, by comparison, is almost as intricate and is actually more fun.
I have only flown 2 other RC type flyers, both too advanced for me, both which I crashed and wrecked. This appealed to me as a learning tool, where I knew i could practice turns, which are the most difficult part of RC flyers.
It took 2-3 charges for me really to get the feel for this. I let a few friends over 20 years of age fly it, and even let a 4 year old fly it, (to great success.) He did however take off running after the flyer and rammed the anttenae on the controller into a chair and it bent and broke off. I am currently flying it with a stub of an anttenae, which it works but I have lost some range.
The battery is designed for 7 minutes of flight, but it is just a rechargeable battery and I think over time loses some of its ability to hold a charge. It flies best on a full charge, and so after a few flights around the room, it descends too quickly.
This is not a climbing item, and although you can climb, it is difficult and innefective. It turns best left handed, right hand turns are not as precise and you tend to descend on right hands and climb on left. I tried flying it in a 16x16 room (reccomended) on beginner mode with the tail ribbon, and after one charge, I couldn't turn quick enough, so put it in expert mode and removed the tail ribbon. My record is 4 circles around the room until I hit the back of a chair with the legs.
I did try this outside, in extremely low wind. Not recommended, too light. This thing has crashed several times and still works like new. Comes with replacement wings and propeller, not sure why, these still work great.
This thing is sweet it may be a little slow but for the money it is worth it when taking off it has a right turn tendancy but just correct it with a little left rudder and it just flies. it climbs pretty high (almost got it stuck in the rafters in the hangar)this thing is great bottom line buy it and enjoy
I just got one for the heck of it... Its pretty cool. Im a big hobby flyer, mostly jets, and this is nice to have a slow moving indoor compatible rc. Ive crashed it so many times and the Dragonfly is so tough for what it is, it can stand up to almost anything. Its a little hard to control, but once you get the hang of it, its pretty fun. Charging takes about 5 minutes, which is great, and even though it has no up and down control, for [$] how can you go wrong?
I'm in the military and fly the DragonFly for fun, daily. This morning I took it out for a spin. Just after I hand-launched the plane and it flapped about 12 feet fomr me, a hungry HAWK divebombed it out of the sky! The poor plane hit the dirt and the hawk disappeared; out of sight. "THAT WAS AWESOME!!" Unfortunately, no one else was there to see. I dusted off the plane, saw the hawk had BARELY puntured the styrofoam body with it's talons. To my suprise, the plane continued to fly just as well as before. It wasn't more than ten minutes later, the hawk bombed my DragonFly a second time, only to land on the ground beside my humbled plane. He stood over the DragonFly for a few seconds and then took off after a flock of small birds soaring overhead! I can't complain about the durability of this plane. I had to replace my bent wing after the second attack by the predatory bird. Thank God the manufacturer provided a couple extra!
It is easy to use and entertaining.

the coolest thing ever it is fairly easy to use,
durable well built and fun for everyone of all ages, my dad is 44 and he enjoys flying it in the yard.
This thing is a blast! While it looks kind of flimsy it's actually pretty tough. It still flies perfectly using the original wings ager we crashed it into the street a number of times and event got it stuck in the top of an oak tree.
Fun and easy to control,seems to be durable.

The antenna is very flimsy, i let my brother use it and when he flew it into the neighbors yard he held the antenna and moved the remote a little and the antenna snapped. doesn't go very high. hard to use controls

I have to use it outside because my parents don't want it in the house, so I have to watch out for the trees and bushes. The quality of the wings surprised me, because I thought that they would tear when they hit a bush or something, but they are very good. I like the fact that it only has to charge for 20 min. Now, it does only last for 7-10 min., but while it's charging, you can do something else while it's charging. The problem is that the body is made of styrofoam, so after awhile, the nose starts getting messed up if it keeps crashing.

The Dragonfly is a blast to fly. Like others mentioned, don't throw it to launch. About 50% throttle and let it fly out of your hand with a VERY gentle forward nudge is the perfect launch.
It flys better in the wind than I expected, but as the instructions say, about 5MPH is the limit. I have been able to fly into a headwind over 5MPH by tacking. It's funny to watch it fly backwards or hover in the right wind.
Once you get good level flight going, you can increase the throttle to gain altitude. I've been able to get it at least 75 feet in the air.
It's nice that when it lands on the roof of the house (or barn, or a tree) that you can flap the wings to get it to hop off the roof (or fall out of the tree)
While the wings look flimsy, they are quite durable. I have probably 75 flights on my first set of wings with no problems.
After hundreds of crashes, the only visible damage is some paint is chipped off the body.
Our cats enjoy watching it fly, but for some strange reason our chickens are afraid of it.
Overall, a great toy, well worth the money.

At first I wasn't that impressed. It flew okay but seemed to climb then stall and only flew for short flights of about 15 seconds. I found that by adjusting the legs forward it shifted the weight so it doesn't climb and stall and will generally fly for well over a minute and probably close to two. Flights usually end because of it hitting the house or a tree.
My children are 4 1/2 and 7 1/2. The eldest actually does a fairly good job flying it and she often keeps it airborne for a minute per flight. My youngest even has a lot of fun even though he can't keep it aloft for more than 10 or 15 seconds. Both of them fly it in the easy mode.
It seems a little fragile but so far has faired well even though it has landed in the rose bushes a few times.
If people are having problems with all flights being very short they are either throwing it when they launch it or they need to tweak the legs to balance it.
This is a great toy that illustrates the battery technology we have today! It flys really well, I have 3, two blues and one green and they are all great! Girls seem to pick up real fast. A good tip to help: don't use full wing speed till you have the Flight stabilized and need to climb.

I bought this toy back when it first came into the stores and while it took me about an hour to figure out how to use it without crashing into anything (which, to my surprise, demonstrated it's durability by not even sustaining a dent) Once I got used to the controller I couldnt stop playing with it.

The Dragonfly isn't a very expensive toy, but considering that I've now bought three of them (all 49MHz) and none of them have flown for more than 3 seconds, having serious difficulties gaining altitude, I don't think I'll buy a fourth. All three seemed to have problems with the batteries, as after attempting three second-fraction flights, the wings flutter once and cut out.
I just bought it this morning, and I'm already ready to set it on fire and see if it will look better as a meteorite. I've found that at least the 49MHz's that I bought were nothing short of garbage. And I have years of experience in flying RC vehicles indoors and out, and even have my pilot's license.
It's certainly not due to lack of knowledge or experience, and I really hope Wow Wee (who, in my opinion, makes some really cool things!) gets the "bugs" worked out (pun intended). If they could, I'd buy another one, even paying more.... because this is the coolest RC ornothopter-like vehicle I've seen in my life!

Cool!!! was my first thought when I bought this.
But the first time I tried to fly it out doors it
took a dive, so I tried again and again and it just kept diving. So I tried charging it and I went back
out side. It did the same thing!!! NO it was NOT windy. NO I did not charge it wrong. I charged it the way it said in the manual. And last but not least I am VERY DISSIPOINTED. This afternoon I will return it gladly getting my money back!!!

This is literally the most amazing, fun, satisfying toy I have ever seen in my 39 years of being on this Earth.
It flies very well and will fly in a slight breeze. If you have flown the little havoc/pico helicopters, this will amaze you with it's ability to turn on a dime and go just where you point it.
As with all flying toys, there is a learning curve but it is certainly not difficult to fly. Keep the Tail Ribbon attached or you will spend many frustrated hours trying to fly it...they say it's optional but I've yet to meet anyone who could fly one outdoors without it.
However, it is a TOY..and as a toy it is meant to break eventually so parents have to buy new ones. The gears or something will strip or the motor will wear out, usually around 100-150 flights or so...and there are no serviceable parts. If something inside goes, and it will..you have to buy another.
With that in mind however, the price is pretty good and I would give them as gifts and would recommend them (as TOYS) without hesitation.
It is, at this time, the cheapest RC ornithopter one can buy and is an amazing feat of aeronautics and engineering...though I would have paid the 30.00 extra it would take to make it "hobby-grade" vs. "Toy-Grade"
Warning - Do not purchase the Blue Dragonfly's...they use an inferior radio frequency (27mhz) which has less range than the Green Dragonfly (49mhz) and is more subject to interference.

The wings look really flimsy when you take it out of the box but the first flight soon proved how surprisingly durable this thing is. It's 100% fun from the first flight and is quite challenging to fly in small spaces so be ready for a few crashes. Still, it's not that difficult if you 1) Set the 'trim' control to take care of any tendency for it to fly in a circle 2) Launch it GENTLY - do NOT throw! 3) Let it 'drift' from your grip and it will soon be climbing. I found that 'expert' mode along with the ribbon tail worked best. Mine turned better to the left than the right but I think that was due to my having to set the trip control to adjust straight flying. It's VERY addictive and you won't suffer too much frustration when the power runs out (you still get 10 mintues fly time) as it soon charges up to full power (on good batteries!). I would really recommend this toy to ANYONE. It is a bit pricey for what it is but hey, it's GREAT fun!!! You'll soon get the 'BUG'.
IF YOU WANT TO WAST YOUR MONEY THEN BUY ONE. IT IS A TOY THAT YOU HAVE TO THROW AWAY IN A FEW DAYS FROM IT BREAKING.

I just got this and it can fly right out of the box. i love it it works great! and its good for less experienced pilots because it can wreck over and over again. Great inside and outside. This would be hard to fly for younger children under 8. I am 15 and i have a blast flying these with my friend. I would highly recommend this
This toy is so cool! I am 15 and it never ceases to amaze me! Both my sister and I got one. They are durable. We must have crashed them over 100 times each, and they don't show it. The wings are not paper, and it comes with spares. I've got mine over 75 feet and it still has perfect control. One of my favorite RC toys yet!

The best! For beginners, you need to fly it with the attatchable tail first, which gives the dragonfly more stability. It is very easy to control, but the one common mistake most people make is throwing it when they launch it. That is the worst thing you can do. If you throw it, it will do nose dives and only short flights. My brother and I both bought one; the two different frequencies. We fly them in our backyard, which is fairly large comparitively speaking. We could also fly them easily in our living room, which is about average size. At first, we could barely control them. Mine didn't even fly! The next day, we were controlling them for about 12 minutes at a time. If we launched them into the wind, the got off to a much better start than launching with the wind. Launching them with the wind caused them to do nose dives. We could get them so high, and I got mine to fly up at least 50 feet! I recommend this toy to everybody!

I took it outta the box, charged it up, all that. I started flying it and it would only go right in a circle then crash. So I adjusted the trim and this ended up making not a single difference, So basically when I bought it at [$]I got nothing for my money
Well, my dad always told me to save up for a flying plane or something, but when I saw the dragonfly I couldn't help but pick it over planes. It's my first flying toy and I would like to say I do enjoy trying to get used to the flight patterns and controls. It is durable, I dont know how many times I've crashed it in the house, but the wings look flimsy, but they hold. It was a great deal for [$], it's on sale, GO GET IT NOW!

[...]First flight out of the box and it was I took some shipping tape off of the box it came obvious the dragonfly had a center of gravity problem causing increasing up and down oscillations to the point of crashing. in and added small pieces to the end of the tail until it was balanced and would fly straight and level without the tail ribbon. Now the thing simply rocks...looks like a giant lighting bug when flying at night. The only colors I have seen in [...]is blue or green. On the internet I have also seen these in Yellow, red and black.I'm going to buy another to put away.

Well, this toy looked really cool on all the videos i've watched, but when i flew it, it wasn't the same story. The second I took it out of the box is when the problems began. It flew in a circle and then crashed, so i read the directions and adjusted the trim, but it DID NOT make any diference the back rotor would not turn off. Then the next day I flew it outside and one of the wings broke, so I replaced both of the wings, and it crashed the first two seconds I used it. TRUST ME THIS THING ISN'T WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN ON THE VIDEOS. Glides and hovers ha! Yaah right, more like crashes and burns.

This dragonfly looked cheap to me, but then I realized why it was made with foam. This thing crashes alot when you first start to fly it. Funny thing is, it hasn't broke yet. Now I can fly it on expert mode. Everyone loves it. From children to teens to adults. It takes some time to learn to fly it, but once you get the hang of it, it's well worth it.

It does not fly that good out of the box, but if you tape a paper tail extension on that bends down a bit, it is stable and great fun to fly. Without the paper tail it will oscilate in flight and is very unstable. Search the internet and you will find details on the tail modification. I just used a stick post stuck to the end of the tail, and then bent the paper down.

Just plain fun. Works fine in moderate breeze, in fact a skilled pilot can use it and have fun with it! Not too hard to learn in beginner mode, then flip to expert mode for more fun.
This toy broke the first day. It was also very hard for my 11 year old and 7 year old to stear when it was off the ground. I didn't have much luck either. The motor broke after flying it for about 30 min and would never start again. The wings are also very thin and delicate. We returned ours to the store the next day. Not a good value for the money.

The Wowwee Dragonfly is easily the best [$] I've ever spent on a toy. I've operated many RCs, from cars to helicopters to planes (with limited success in the air), and this is by far the easiest to handle and most fun flying toy I've played with, especially for back yard use. I've seen some complaints in other reviews... people seem to be having a hard time getting it to fly. DON'T THROW IT. Just hold it in the air, get the wings flapping, and gently let go, with the tail flat, and it'll take off with no problem. A 5MPH breeze is PERFECT if you want it to fly high (I've gone well over 50+ feet). Flying into the (light) wind will give you great lift... and the current makes for a very interesting flight (fly into the wind to go up or hover in place, fly with the wind for speed). Very durable... I've divebombed mine into the ground dozens of times. With little or no wind and a reasonably sized back yard, it's easy to keep it in the air doing tricks for it's full battery life (7-10 minutes nonstop) after a few practice runs to get the controls down. I purchased a Starscream microflyer jet from [...]based on the Dragonfly's quality. It did nothing but crash repeatedly to the point where I returned it for another dragonfly... now my friends and I have dogfights! The expert settings are a blast. Nice, SHARP turns! My only reservation is that if you have a small apartment and no yard.... stay away! You'll want at least a 30x30 space for maximum enjoyment. It includes a ribbon for the tail to slow it down, but if your flying in a 15ft room, you're still only going to fly in circles, which severely limits what this thing can do. Finally, in response to a specific review... the wings are NOT paper. I don't think you ever actually flew one of these. They're plastic, and are very easily replaceable (they come in packs of 2 sets for $5). The wings WILL break occasionally, but are cheap (and an extra set comes in the box to help you out while you're still learning). Each set of wings is slightly different, so when replaced, the flying nuances change and take a minute or two to get used to. This is minor, however, and it's quite easy to acclimate to. I've had my first one for several weeks, and despite all the crashing I've done, the only sign is a chipped nose (and a couple sets of busted wings still sitting in the living room). Overall, HIGHLY recommended!!

A fun toy, but hard to maneuver. Crashes easy, needs charging very fast, only about 20 minutes of flying time.
This is the second one I have bought in a month, it is not as durable as I would like and it tends to go downward whether we have a beginner or experienced flyer. It is a way to get the whole family involved and has appealed to all ages within our family.
Concept is great, but the flimsy design makes for a toy that does not last long. We had to return our daughters twice due to just not working once and the wing connectors breaking off the second time. After that the daughter lost complete interest and bought a Star Wars lightsabre instead.
Very fun to fly. In a small house - not so easy but not impossible. gets blown by a small amount of wind, but once you know how to use it you can use the wind to your advantage. Great toy for the price.

'm an R/C flyer and bought the bug on a "whim" But It's the only toy I fly on a daily basis. Once you figure out how to catch the lil breezes to gain altitude, I've had mine as high as the receiver will transmit! Mine just went into the trees at over a hundred foot!I'm here to eplace it immediately lol!!
This is an OK product. But everytime you fly it, it goes straight towards the ground and crashes. Once it does that it still wont fly back up. Its best if you take it to a high elevation such as a deck on a second story building and fly it for best uses.

I love the Dragonfly. The only problem that I have with it would be the Wind factor. I live in Maui up in the Mts. So there is always a good breese. But other then that it works flawles. I would reconmend this to anyone.

This thing is amazing. It takes some practice and finesse to master it, but once you do you can make it fly figure 8's inside a 10 x 12 foot living room. It's way more fun and durable than the toy helicopters in this price range. I find if flys best with the tail ribbon attached. Without the ribbon, it tends to fly in a series of dips that eventually cause it to stall and crash. The trick to avioding the dips is not to use full throttle and launch it smoothly so it assumes level flight immediately after launch. I've crashed it dozens of times with no damage other than some paint coming off the nose. This is one toy I'm likely to wear out before it ends up on a shelf. I'm thinking of buying a second one while they are on sale just to keep as a spare.
All it does is fly downwards, crash, stop working, not charge, and get returned. It's horrible! The wings are paper, and the body is foamy. The slightest breeze carries it to someone else's yard where it lands in a rose bush, cactus, roof, pond, or dog's mouth. Terrible.
