Bought this to go to Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland..Did NOT work in any of these countries, although the "professional" at Radio Shack assured me it would..didn't even fit the plug, prongs are too short...Thank God a friend gave me a back up at the last moment....will definitely return!
[...] Burnt out my hair dryer
it does not do what it promises. My flatiron overheated within 2min of pluffing in...it smelled like burned and it wouldn work. And my camer charger will no longer charge

I took it to Australia to use on a coffee making machine. It did not work and has probably damaged the machine.

I tried to use it in Poland with hair straightener and it didn't work. I had to get another converter. Waste of money. My advise: buy one in the country you are traveling to.

I bought two of these before coming to Russia. It was the worst way I have ever spent my money. Luckily, I have 5 roommates who bought good converters and adapters; otherwise, I would be powerless. This does not fit into Russian outlets. The prongs aren't long enough. I can only hope that [...]will let me return the two I bought after four months.

Designed for motorized devices up to 1600W.
DO NOT USE WITH LAPTOPS! Also requires plug adapters 273-1405 to fit a euro outlet properly.

Advertised to run electronics, but after it burned up my laptop power supply, I read the fine print on the converter stating not for use with electronic equipment! Somebody [...] should change the misleading wording on the advertised product specs

Come on people, it says "Travel" right in the name of this device. It's for recharging camera batteries, ipods, electric razors and the like. It's not for hair dryers or delicate electronic equipment. Yes, you ought to read the wattage limitations of electronic equipment before you buy it. If you're looking for this product you already know enough not to try to plug your appliances directly into 220V sockets. Determining your load before you purchase a converter shouldn't be to much of a stretch.

This device uses diode clipper circuitry to reduce a sinusoidal 220/240 VAC input to a clipped "squarish" 120 VAC output. The device does not use a stepdown transformer, and thus does not produce a 120 VAC sinusoidal output. Motors, clocked circuitry and some digital devices require a sinusoidal AC power input and thus will not work with this device. If you understand the obvious limitations of this economical device, it is a good buy.

I bought it to use a 550 watts Black&Decker blender, but it is not working at all. It is a waste of money.
This converter is not suitable for electric products up to 1600 W. I.e. a hair dryer runs on half speed. You need better converters for higher watt equipments than this.

DON'T BE FOOLED! This converter is not designed for use with much. Won't work on electronics of any kind - ruined my music keyboard and my computer speakers - even though it is advertised to let you "...use American appliances and electronics in other parts of the world" read the fine print on the converter before you use it! It says right on it "Do not use with computers or other electronic equipment inculding electronically-controlled heaters" It is also not good with any kind of heating appliance that uses more than 1600watts.
