Charges my phone great in the house. Charges anything that doesn't take lots of power. Its rated at 1000mA or 1 Amp. Be intelligent, check power consumption on devices before plugging them in.

Radio Shacks online description of this item doesnt even include an amperage rating. It's too expensive for what it is. On the bright-side, it's small and light, and it'll charge a low-power device like a phone, but I wish Radio Shack hadn't gotten rid of their old 12v "wall wart" which was an actual transformer instead of a switcher, and actually had some capacity to pump some amps.. I've had this thing die when trying to even charge a model airplane battery, so it can't provide much power. I'd say it's fine if you've got money to burn and all you want to do is charge a phone on vacation, because it is very light and compact, but this device demonstrates that Radio shack has gone from a hobbiest-friendly electronics store to a cellular phone store.

It's meant for a cell ...
By Tom O from Gaithersburg, MD on 5/15/2007

It's meant for a cell phone, not a cooler! Saves the trouble of carrying 2 chargers, works great!

It's expensive, ...
By Patrick B from Chicago on 6/4/2006
Pros:
Easy to use

It's expensive, underpowered, but just about charges my cell. The power input/output info on the U/L label is unclear. Old transformer #22-501 (no longer stocked) was much better.

I have tried this ...
By Christina R from CA on 5/15/2006

I have tried this AC-to-DC Portable Power Supply on several different items, and it hasn't worked once. I am taking it back to store today. Don't waist your money, not worth $30 or $5 for that matter.

Worked fine for charging ...
By Peter F from Shahpr on 3/8/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Reliable

Worked fine for charging my phone, but at a puny 1 amp it couldn't power any of the 12v toys from my car, like the cooler, air mattress inflator, etc., so I'll be taking it back. I'm embarassed really that I even paid that much for a simple transformer in the first place.
