Reliable

Pros:
Compact Design, Long Lasting, Reliable Performance
Describe Yourself:

Primary use:
Personal
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've used this adapter for years and really like it. It's versatile and reliable. Not too heavy. Power output may not be adequate for heavy duty laptops. Only problem is I've damaged the tip I need the most and it can't be purchased separately (anyone have a tip for Dell Inspiron 5000?).

Fragile

The casing is made of fragile plastic. When some minor stress popped it apart about a month after its purchase, the local Radio Shack salesman refused to do anything, saying "you must have dropped it."

After trying all the tips that came with the charger, the only one that came close to fitting just lasted about a year and replacing it seems ipossible because they tell me I need to buy the whole thing. I only need the tip.

Works for me - you do have to select the correct voltage (between 12 and 24) and make SURE you have the tip installed in the right direction to get the right tip polarity. My old laptop wasn't in the manual, but the voltage and polarity information was on the old power supply, so - no problems.

Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good Value, Reliable

Don't let the previous reviewer scare you from using this adapter. I have successfully used a few of these adapters to power laptops and LCD monitors. Caution: Make sure you have 1) The correct voltage selected, and 2) The correct positive and negative polarities set on the power connector.

By Marcus C from Pleasanton on 11/9/2006

I'm VERY unhappy that I purchased this product. I was careful to follow the instructions, but nevertheless fried my Dell laptop. Maybe that was my mistake. But now I want to use it for my replacement Acer, and the model I have isn't on the guide's list. This time I want to be very careful so as to not make any mistakes, but I can't seem to get any useful advice from your web site regarding laptop compatibility. It appears I have a totally useless $100 device, due to the lack of support for it. If you sell a piece of equipment that has the potential to ruin one's laptop, you should at least provide support for the device online to help mitigate the risk. A device like this is more than just the wires and metal in it. Right now I don't seem to be able to use it for anything!
