This is NOTHING more than a molded in fuse. Once the fuse blows the unit is scrap - garbage - a NON-Replacable fuse.
Where is the origional plug that looks exectly the same BUT has a replaceable fuse?
dittos to bc! Cord has no strain relief and won't handle very many small tugs. I have this permanantly mounted in my car to go to a radar detector. The unit had been losing power (momentarily) for months and I just finally ripped the wires out (unintentionally) yesterday. Don't remember how I installed it originally so I came to this site to find instructions so I don't F it up again. NO HELP...
Radio Shack does not carry a replacement 7.5 amp fuse.
the solderless spring terminals are useless - even a weak pull on the wire will cause the wires to slip out of them...and the 'strain relief' is too far too big to do its stated purpose.
This was excellent to hook up heated gloves on my motorcycle. The solderless spring-loaded connection made it hassle-free. When I first hooked up the gloves backward, I just disconnected it and reconnected it the right way in a minute or so. You don't need any tools except a ball point pen and a wire stripper.
It's also nice to have a plug that you don't need to disassemble to check the fuse.
It works great. It is a good replacement part.
