Broke in two months
By Dan from Perkasie, PA on 11/10/2008
Pros:
Easy Setup, Fast Setup
Cons:
Poor Connection
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Bought in late August. Since October, it's been randomly playing through one speaker, so I have to fiddle with it. As of today, November 10th, it nearly stopped entirely, and as of today at 10:40 PM the wires snapped from the connector head entirely.

In the end, I had barely changed it between my CD player's and cell phone's headphone jacks for use in my car more than 50 times.

HORRIBLE product. I'd better get my money back, it wasn't even 90 days before it broke.

Before my complaint, please note that I used the item for 4-5 hours DAILY. When it works, it's fine. But seriously, I went through about 6 of these in the last two years. The last one I bought about two months ago, just started having the same problem I've always had with this brand. Since the wiring is so poorly done, eventually, sound will only come out of one side (Left or Right). The guy at Radio Shack even told me that they manufacture the wires poorly. And that they get a ton of complaints from customers. I bought an extended warranty good for ONE replacement. From now on however, I will never buy this brand again. Time to go [...]ing!

Beware Auto Reverse

Cons:
Auto Reverse kills it, Incompatible

Bottom Line:

This Accurian cassette adapter is useless with auto-reverse. The manual says to be sure to play side A on auto reverse decks. It does not matter which side you play. The deck flips back & forth & then ejects the adapter. Very disappointing!

POOR QUALITY
By disappointed from new jersey on 7/5/2008

It worked for about a month and then terrible rattling noise started coming out. I couldn't use it after that.

If you have an auto reverse tape deck then DON'T BUY IT!!! Popped it in and the LOUD teeth jaring chattering started, along with a constant reversing of the tape. Sounded like it was going to bust right up inside my tape deck. Tried taking it out and putting it back in... same. Taking it back tomorrow!

Cons:

Easy to use & decent sound, but after about 6 hours either the tape broke or became detached from one reel. Disappointing life span, I would have expected it to last longer.

I bought this to play our portable DVD player through our sound system, and it never occurred to me to use it to play our Ipod through the stereo. I was always very impressed with the sound quality of this adapter when playing dvd's, so I expected it to be great for the IPOD, even though I'd heard so many people rave about the Monster FM unit. I have not been disappointed in the least!, and I've also got a brand new car with a Line-In jack, and this sounds just as good in comparison! I've found best sound quality is when you limit Ipod volume to about 70% of max, and control the volume on stereo. Great product, worth every penny! Enjoy!

Works with autoreverse tape decks

Pros:
Easy Setup, Fast Setup, Good Quality
Cons:
None so far
Best Uses:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have a '96 Saturn SL2 with a factory tape-deck. The tape adapter I have is an old one (~1988) and works fine with anything except the autoreverse tape deck in my car which just spits it right back out. They didn't have autoreversing tape decks when it was made, so it doesn't handle them.

This model has the extra doo-hickey (that's an official Gizmological term) to work with the autoreverse deck. Sound quality is more than good enough for my non-audiophiliac purposes, and it's much less expensive than a new head unit with an audio-in jack. Not to mention easier than re-wiring the head unit I have. :)

With my new Christmas iPod, I tried two different [$] FM transmitter units from the you-know-who store, out in the country and in downtown Chicago. Neither one worked. Couldn't hear anything on any open station in town, and annoying static on every open station on the road. Then, tried this device. Eureka! Caveat: Instructions say to set music source to minimum. I got a little hiss, so I turned the volume of the iPod up to about 75%, and the hiss was gone. Buy this one with confidence!

So heres my story. I am the kind of guy who likes to have the coolest technology with the coolest accessories. So i get the Microsoft Zune(not much of an apple fan) and I love it. I get an armband so i can listen to my music while I train for baseball, i got a protective case for it for extra protection, i buy the [$]Zune FM transmitter. BIG MISTAKE. i tried every station, all i got was static. i couldnt think of any other way to connect my zune to my car because i dont have the money to go and install an aux input in my car(im a student..students are poor). i talked to one of my friends and he told me to just get the cassette adapter, he said he had one for his ipod and it worked sweet. i was apprehensive at first because i thought cassette adapters were outdated, but i thought what the heck ill give it a shot, their cheap enough. so i went to radio shack and bought this cassette adapter and was amazed at how nice this worked. i read reviews on other cassette adapters and people were saying how they make noise and theres static, i dont hear anything with this. i now use this anytime im in the car, even if its for just a 15 minutes drive and i love it...this was definetly a quick easy and cheap fix .

"Don't sleep on this product"

Like the other reviewer stated, I consider myself an audiophile and I have never bought any audio/video products from [...] because they don't carry high end equipment, but I decided to give [...] a try after I dealt with a distorted FM transmitter ipod adapter purchased from [...] for triple the price of the [...] cassette adapter. I originally wanted to have an ipod interface hard wired to my car stereo system in order to achieve the best possible sound and control the ipod menu from the head unit but, my 2002 lexus suv would not allow me to access these options mentioned. Therefore, I purchased an FM transmitter ipod adapter and the constant hissing, due to interference with the radio frequency was unbearable for me. I read reviews on cassette adapters sold by the major retailers and this one that I am reviewing got the best rating, so I decided to purchase one. Remarkable, compared to the FM transmitters! For only [$], I plan to buy another one just in case the 1st one goes bad! I found the right volume setting on my ipod and locked the volume limit because the volume is controlled by your ipod and your car stereo, which means that you have to have them set properly to avoid distortion. If you lock the ipod volume limit, then all you have to do is keep the ipod volume turned up to it's preset limit and control the volume with you car stereo. So, I have finally enjoyed using the ipod in my vehicle! I gave it a rating of (4) because the longevity of the product remains to be seen!

I have a 2002 Infinity QX4 with the stock Bose that came with the truck. I figured before I spend the money ($150-250) to get an aux input hard-wired for my IPod or other device, spend less for a trial version for this cassette adapter [$]. The sound is pretty [*] good. The volume controls on my sterring wheel work, but the controls dont-must use the IPod to change tracks-really isnt a big deal. And you could use it in the other car at any time. Before you spend the money, try this first. You could always return it within 30 days for a refund with your receipt. I am keeping mine.

I am what you would consider an audiophile- I'm nuts about music and very picky about sound quality. I went out of my way to purchase a CD player with an AUX input, but I lost that car in an accident. Then I purchased a new car that came with an AUX input, but I traded it in. I now have a 2004 Passat, and it doesn't have an AUX input. I like the CD player it came with, and I wasn't prepared to spend over [$] to set up MP3-player-integration, so I started looking for cassette adapters for a cheap, quick solution. My expectations were pretty low, to be honest.I tried 2 from [...]: one by Griffin, one by Belkin (the white one with the iPOD on the box). Both had the same problems: noticeable background static, I couldn't crank-up the volume on my iHP-120 MP3 player without severe distortion, and if I even moved the line-in cable, the sound cut out!!! Needless to say, I was dissatisfied. Then a buddy of mine brought over his Sony cassette adapter- same problems (although this one was quite old)!I saw the reviews for this adapter on [...], so I decided to give it a shot. The static is nearly non-existent. It's very quiet and definitely not noticeable while listening to music. It does have a faint clicking sound as well, but again, that is impossible to hear when listening to anything (even my car's heat/ac drowns out that noise). As for cranking the volume on my MP3 player- no problem! Not only did I crank the volume all of the way up, it even handles the Optical Output jack on my MP3 player! That jack creates distortion on any headphones and many other pieces of audio equipment, but this adapter handled it beautifully! In fact, the sound output is significantly LOUDER than playing CDs!!! Lastly, the biggest potential issue- moving the wire......NO PROBLEM! Works flawlessly!Needless to say, I love this product. After going from to AUX inputs to this adapter, I can honestly say I am satisfied with using a cassette adapter. It sounds great, it's loud, there is virtually no distortion, and the noises it produces are minimal. For [$], it's a fabulous deal (compared to $100+ to set up MP3 integration)! Please note that I did this with a 2004 VW Passat 8-speaker "Monsoon" Premium Sound system. Often times, people argue that poor audio equipment hides flaws, and that is very true. However, this is the best car audio system I've ever had, and this adapter is performing beautifully!I HIGHLY recommend this product- worthy every penny and extremely convenient!

If you are looking for a way to listen to your iPod in the car and you have a tape deck... then this is the best thing out there. I had an old version of this product that I used for years and when it broke i was lost. I tried the same type of product made by Belkin and it was terrible. It clicked and it was so bad that I couldn't stand using it. I also tried the radio frequency device by Belkin again terrible! But, this is great! All I can hear is what I am trying to play on my ipod (no terrible clicking noise). I am tempted to buy another one for down the road just in case it wears out at somepoint and they stop making it.

This works great for the price. However if you listen to really soft music or with the volume turned down the sound of the tape turning is loud. so unless you crank your volume, you'll be listening to the tape deck turn.
