I have had this radio for months and I think it's great. My dad liked it so much that he bought one for Florida. I love it.
This is a great weather radio. We have been using it for the last three months. It has great reception and sound quality. Best to take 30 minutes and sit down and go through the owners manual and program the unit thoroughly. Otherwise you will end up with audible alerts for lots of things you do not want to bother with.
We use it everyday in the morning to get the weather forecast. I love the one button to push to turn it on or off, and the simple volume controls.
Best thing is that it has a small footprint and stands upright. This means it does not take up a lot of room, and can sit on a window ledge (where we have ours). Since it sits upright, it is very easy to read the display when seated or lying in bed.

I just wanted to modify the review I wrote previously as the Weather Guy regarding event notification programmability. While I would have preferred full programmability to having some alerts permanently enabled, the "child abduction emergency" IS PROGRAMMABLE, at least it appears so on the radio I purchased. This was numero uno, #1, for me, so I'm happy. This is about as perfect as it gets for a weather radio at this price point. I only gave it 4 stars so Radio Shack would take notice and provide full alert programmability in the next model. It also needs a power switch. As is, it's "always on" either plugged in or draining your backup battery.
I have an older version of this model and it works quite good. Reception is spotty, especially in Wooded and Low-Lying Areas, but that is usual. I can get at least One NWR Channel most of the time.

This radio provides basic SAME capable weather alert radio functions. I was surprised to see some capability to program of which types of alerts you want to receive. This REALLY got me EXCITED because my home weather radio has mostly been off since Amber Alerts started to go out over NOAA radio (i.e. Child Abduction Advisories). Finally an affordable radio where I could disable these alerts!! NOT!! Some lawyer or bureaucrat apparently decided that these alerts are one of several that can NOT be disabled. Too bad. Having FULLY functional alert programmability would have this radio competing with $150+ pro models. As it is, it's just a reliable, run of the mill weather radio, which is fine, because there are many brands out there where the QC is not consistent or reliable. Oh well, I HOPE RADIO SHACK IS LISTENING!! Give us fully programmable alerts on the next model and I'll buy one for myself. This one was purchased by me for my church.

Set up required a lot of look up. Flash flood watches are issued be theres no reference on my radio!!! I have no confidence that it is working at all. Knowledge base from radio shack on product, provided no assistance. Unless you count bring it back as assistance.

After seeing a lot of bad reviews of other weather radios, I thought I'd chime in about this one. I have the old model of this Radioshack Weather Radio. It has worked perfectly for 10 years now and alerts us when any severe weather is occurring. This radio has never failed and has a battery backup which is very important--severe weather often is associated with power outages. I'm an avid weather watcher and storm spotter and am very satisfied with this radio.

Watches, advisories and warnings can be individually selected for audible alert while all alerts display visually. Programming menu is easy to use.
