Pros:
Makes an nice nite lite
Cons:
Reception sux
Best Uses:
Home Use
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

1. The instruction manual that comes with this radio would be more useful as toilet paper.
2. Apparently Midland assumes that everyone lives within 10 miles of a WX Transmitter, on flat ground with no pesky mtns or hills in between.
3. You CAN'T turn off the annoying and TOO LOUD button and key beeps!!
4. You can't adjust the volume of the alarm siren, I mean sure if a TORNADO is coming I want this thing to warn me, but I don't want to have a heart attack either because this radio scared me out of my skin!!
5. The sound quality isn't that hot either.
6. This radio had lots of potential to be one of the greatest, but it really dissappointed me, and it's a little over priced too, certainly not what I paid for it, I expected quality and got a pretty package full of inferiorty .

Pros:
Can select counties, Durable, Good Sound Quality, Great Reception
Cons:

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This radio is great - we like being able to choose our county so we don't get all alerts and warnings. The sound quality is good, the backlit display serves as a nightlight, and we are very pleased with the information on alerts and warnings we have received so far.

Programed the unit and the next week we had a bad storm. Never got an alert or even a peep. After a few months, the display quite and all I had was a nice blue screen. Could not get the unit to work again. Would not recomment this unit.

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

This is by far the best radio available! I have owned many different weather radios over the years, and it doesn't get any better then this. I know many other Skywarn spotters, that have this one. The reception is great. It has lasted for about 4 years now, has always picked up the warnings. Amazing feature selection. I strongly recommend EVERYONE buy this lifesaving radio.

I am very pleased with this product. I programmed the alerts I wanted to receive, surrounding counties and volume. The next day there were severe thunderstorms in my area. The radio alerted me well in advance. It was great. I listen to the weather report every night before I go to bed. The clock radio is an added bonus.

Died an early death
By Beyond disappointed from Chambana, IL on 1/20/2008
Cons:
Display stuck
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

After about 5 months, the display suddenly went to an on all the time blue box. It does not display text so there is no way of knowing if it works. Now we have a nice blue night light and an untrustworthy radio. Midland seemed rather unconcerned. I can't imagine this has not happened to others.

The units does not work as well as the Radio Shack weather and clock radio units. I can not even receive the emergency weather mountain top stations that I live next to. This unit has poor reception and does not even receive with an outside antenna.

Choosable Local Alerts
Best Uses:
Home Use

It is nice to be able to restrict alerts to only those that could be life threatening for my area. This radio was the only one we saw that did this as a regular function.
