This was my first dedicated weather reciever. I have radio scanners that recieve NOAA weather radio, and do it much better, but I bought this Sima just for the heck of it. At first I was not too happy with this radio. It's very flimsy. It reminds me of something you probably would've found in the Soviet Union! The FM reception is a joke. It will not hold the most powerful FM signals! AM reception is fine. The weather radio portion of this reciever works wonderfully! It picks up my local NOAA transmitter perfectly, and the alarm always sounds when a NWS alert is issued. One major problem is that it doesn't have SAME technology. This means you can't set the radio to only alert you to local warnings. The alarm will sound for warnings well out of your town or county.
As I said, at first, I wasn't too happy with this reciever. But after I bought a Midland WR-100 weather radio, I saw just how much better this radio was compared to that piece of junk. The Midland WR-100 WILL NOT sound it's warning when an alert is issued! It just won't work! As flimsy and as over priced as this Sima is, it does what it's supposed to do. It sounds it's alarm when there is a warning issued. You can't ask for more than that!
