Radio is for the " Not so Critical Radio Listner " Best used for Emergency Situations.
It falls in the catigory as a " Table Model Radio" and not a portable
Just bought this radio to pull in weak AM signals and experiment with shortwave. So far this radio has blown me away. Unbeleivable reception and sound quality. If you're looking for a portable radio (i.e. somthing you can carry everywhere in a bag etc.) this probably isnt your best choice, but if you're looking for somthing with performance that will hold some batteries and pull in weak signals without pulling in your computer, tv, cable box, and every flouresant light in your house, this is definately it! Plenty of controls to fine tune and a big plus is the ability to add an external antenna (but you probably wont need it). It's design and weight remind me of older radios back when they used to be made out of somthing which is a plus fo me. Great radio. Enjoy!
Great radio for home use, Does not have LW, but for the size radio and ferrite rod for AM, this radio should still be have the LW band for Europe to Mongolia for the England to hear BBC 4. FM and AM reception is good and solid, shortwave is average, needs a reception boost on SW and also needs to have SSB at least a BFO, but does not. Radio has external antenna jacks, and RCA line out jacks, but does not have a audio input jack just to playback your favorite broadcasts or listen to your ipod, mp3 or CD player. Does not have lighted controls, could use it.
Radio is a great for AM radio listening and SW radio listening and semi local DXing on FM. Also radio tunes down to 86 MHz for some overseas Japanese broadcasts. You will need a special balun for 500 ohm connection to longwire antenna.
This is me DXing the AM band with the S-350 DL

This is a great radio for FM listening. Otherwise on the local AM band as well as the worldwide shortwave bands there is a lot of drift. It is hard to fine tune this radio. Using an outside antenna helped with weak signals, unfortunately nearby stronger frequencies tended to bleed over. Unfortunately for the price that was paid for this rig it has become a back up radio for power outages and used in the exercise room to listen to local FM.

This bad audio thing may be just on my radio.
It may be a QC thing with the MFG.

An excellent purchase, but a bit overpriced (should be about $10-$20 cheaper for what you get). The reception is pretty good for FM/SW, but extremely poor for AM. Operation is easy, and buttons/knobs/switches are all easily managed.
The battery life appears to be fairly good with no signs of drainage on Battery Life Indicator after about 15 hours of use.
This product requires either 'D' OR 'AA' batteries (it is an either or situation) as there is a switch inside the battry compartment that allows you to choose.
This unit does not allow you to plug in and charge the batteries. Charging batteries will require a separate battery charger.
Pick-up some good copper/antennae wire too (if you have none) - you'll be glad you did.
All around this product is a pretty decent purchase for guaranteed FM/SW listening.
This is a great product - I love the large operating buttons and the bulk of the shortwave makes it easy to keep sturdy on a table whilst you try and bring in stations. The range is excellent on this - I brought in at least 20 major long range stations the first night I got it. Easy to use, durable and high quality.
My wife bought me this radio for me to use in our garage while I do wood work. Other radios had problems with FM and even AM reception (probably because we live in a valley with lots of local hills (locals call them mountains)close by as well as the structure of the house. My truck radio, for example, hardly works in my garage, but works very well out of it. I like the excellent AM and FM reception, excellent sound quality, the two-speed rotating dial for dialing in frequency, solid feel of controls, and excellent sound.
Although I am not very knowledgeable about shortwave, it seems like most of the bands are pretty much empty in my area (maybe again because of the local hill issue). At least it has a place for and instructions to add a remote antenna. I suspect this would help. Also, I am not exactly a shortwave buff, so it is more of a casual issue with me.
I like the fact that I can go to batteries if the power goes off, but I have not used that feature.
The two previous radios I had for the garage honestly did not pick up stations like this one.
Nice audio and great AM radio reception. The tuning backlash sometimes drives me nuts as does the slight frequencey drift during small outside temp changes. Overall its nice to have a radio with real tuning instead of annoying encoders that cut off audio while tuning. I would buy another.
Radio has great auido.. easy to read LCD.. don't like the tuneing knob to much.. seems flimsy and drifts easy
Casual listener. Impulse purchase. Good reception at night pulling in SW and distance USA AM stations for favorite sport teams. Initially disappointed to discover the Grundig name was not authenic German made radio. Overall nicely satisfied.
I purchased this radio in part thanks to other reviews here. I got it home, it was ready to go out of the box. We live in a rural area which has a hand full of local stations and plenty of sharp hilly terrain and sand dunes means rough radio reception. I got this unit home (stick built, wood siding), plugged it in and turned it on. Went from having two strong FM stations and one strong AM station (using a GE Superadio III) to picking up stations 1200 miles away (AM, at night). We have now dozens of available AM stations at night, increased AM reception during the day and we are getting FM stations whose repeaters are 60+ miles away. OUTSTANDING! Shortwave is something I am just now getting into to.
I received another one for Christmas and its better than the first one that I received last year. Everything is working fine and I am very happy with it and also its organized and also when I tune to a shortwave radio broadcast station its always on the right frequency. I am glad to get another one this year.

Received this radio for Christmas of 2007. Set it up in the living room and was receiving DX on the AM band. Take into consideration too we live on the second floor of an apartment but it still performs really well. I set it up in my room on a slinky antenna but it receives a lot of interference but overall it does really well. If you want an inexpensive shortwave radio that performs well this is your one. Its a little hard to get on a certain frequency immediately and just a slight touch of the dial can take you to a different band but its not anything serious.

I've gone through a truck load of AM radios trying to pick up talk radio or news radio on the AM freq.
I've wasted twice the cost of this unit on other cheap radios that didn't do squat for me.
I'm in a building that seems to be immune to radio waves on the AM band. This radio brings in my stations.
They are still a bit staticy but it beats nothing!

You can criticize this radio as well for some of it's quirks ... funny analogue tuning, some tuning drift on AM/SW, seemingly arbitrary sw band definitions, variable build quality, no SSB, no digital tuning enhancements (hey, this thing has a DIAL)...but its assets speak louder than that: fantastic sound quality, outstanding FM performance, solid sensitivity and selectivity, very easy to operate, and long battery life. And I really do like the tuning knob ... a nice retro touch. Can't go wrong with this one.
I have this radio hooked up in my kitchen to a pair of BOSE PC speakers and A Terk Am/Fm Pi antenna and Sounds Excellent! Super tuning Capabilities, Some times I grab it for camping. Batteries last forever. you can hook this radio up to your PC line in on sound card With proper cable available at RadioShack and listen, sound will come through your PC speakers without useing any PC resources. For Emergency use It's good to have! If a major disaster were to occur, And all services were down the shotwave will pick up HAM operators for info From just about every Continent in the world!!! external shortwave antennas are available at [...].GREAT PRODUCT!!! The only down side is the headphone jack is not Stereo but if using a stereo headset it will produce sound to both earphones.

This radio is as good as or better than my old GE World Monitor, best reception of all my portables(I have stacks of them).Speaker seems of high quality, it has very good sound. Sold under a number of names, it is made by eton in China, mine is not Grundig labeled, it is a Tecsun BCL-2000, I got it on a popular on line auction for sixty dollars less than some retailers are selling it for. I have had it for about a year now and have had zero troubles and zero defects, I play it nearly every day on the job and it dont mind being covered in sawdust.
excellent radio well worth the price.
it is NOT JUNK.
A WELL MADE chineese unit.
for only [$]you just cant beat it,.an excellent radio.
Good Radio-40 years Amateur Radio Operator. Electronic Eng. EE Degree. The other reviews have nothing to back up their opinions. The Radio is worth [$].The only problem is where do you find one that is really new. It seems that they sell returns as new....

What happened to those great old portable from japan and Germany? This lousy Chinese Company (Tecsun) merely bought the Grundig name, thinking that would give them crdibility. This radio is not worth anyones time or money. Buy a used german Grundig or a used Panasonic from japan. You'll be glad you did.

Nice, but radioshack doesn't include headphones like other companies....
This is a good radio, but way overpriced. Speaker quaility is very average, tuning ability above average.
I think the radio is great but the price was a little high.
