You will never get a scanner that can receive encrypted signals. You can't blame the scanner for that! You need to do your own research before purchasing such a thing.

Encryption is based on military standards, it is made to be unbreakable. Your area may have some talk groups that are apco25 digital, and some that are digital and encrypted. Do your research before making a purchase! Encryption is very expensive and many departments only encrypt very sensitive operations like SWAT, HRT, Drug investiagtions and detectives ETC. While leaving dispatch and patrol "in the clear". This is not the scanners fault.

In response to Bear's post about the broken circuit board, one can open the bottom and there is a ribbon cable that can become unplugged. Very simple to correct. I believe it can come off during vibration in a vehicle.

Nice radio. If you are trying to decide on some type of scanner to buy, this is the one. It will solve the problem of needing more than one "home" scanner. It's not easy to program, but once you learn it you will like it very much.
