Although I did not purchase my Uniden BC246T from Radio Shack, this is the best scanner I have owned. VERY reliable and great battery life. As long as you do NOT need digital, this is BY FAR the best way to go. Has 2 main features that I cannot live without, I-Calls and automatically finds patched talk-groups. Not to mention that all the Radio Shack models DO NOT have those 2 features. Trust me, you will love this scanner!

This is a great scanner...
I am very happy with this radio, & I use it non-stop in my house!
This thing is so sensitive, that is picks up the police & fire departments, and other various agencies in about 1/2 of my state, & I even get some from nearby MA as well...
Excellent features, nice & small, pretty easy to use, has clear audio, and is just very cool...

This scanner beats the Pro-84 to the ground on the Range , Alpha Tags , with the software It is easy to program . I use it for Air , CB , Police , Fire and Rail listing to . Would buy it again .

I don't know how the previous reviewer could possibly call himself tech savy and make the statements about this scanner he did! This scanner is a winner. Uniden did good coming up with their Dynamic Memory Architecture (DMA) scheme. It runs circles around the standard bank/channel method. There is a learning curve with this radio, but it can be easily overcome. Highly recommend using software to program this radio to utilize it's advantages to their fullest. It is compact, loaded with features and is a real joy to use. Excellent job Uniden!
I should have saved my money and not purchased this scanner. I have not been able to use triple trunking. Tech support is NO help, they don't know anything more about this scanner than I do. They can't even tell me how to do what should be the simplest things. They say, "it can't be done". Well, I have proved them liars more than once.I have 2 Radio Shack scanners that I have had no trouble programing and are very easy to use.Unfortunately, I purchase a Uniden, which I have found to be a big mistake. Not only did I pay more money, but the scanner hasn't been worth the money I paid for it. [...].Unless you know how they work and how to program them, don't waste your money. Especially on Uniden.

I will say that this was a well thought out scanner for those that enjoy a manual in their pocket. The Close call feature is nice. Without the manual it maybe the only way you can program it. The Close call feature works very well. This scanner is good for those that do not have Digital systems in use by their Police or other emergency personel. I just found out that an area Police agency will be rebanded from 800. This will not be a problem since this scanner can be rebanded. It has good points such as fitting in your pocket and strong audio. I would recommend putting the rubber duck in the box so if you resale you will have it. I own a Condor antenna for mine. No it want hardly stand up with the big antenna on it ,but hey it pulls the signals in. The receiver is very good and does not overload. I use the Butel software to keep from pulling my hair out. It has served me well,however I am going to be looking for a Handheld digital scanner in the future. Get the software and fill this one up with your business frequencies and then use your other for police traffic. Lets face it we all own over one scanner. To have them serve you well program certain frequencies in each one so you want miss as much traffic. This might drive your wife crazy,but hey just tell her its for better or for scanner. I would love it if it was Digital,but I knew that before I bought it. The Butel software and this scanner will keep you happy and full of fun. Thanks,Chuck
I love how it also allows you to type in frequencies [...] When programming remeber that there are subfolders like in a computer and a new system means the big folder. When you progam a new sytem do not be afraid it will not erase what has been pre programmed just do not save it under number 9 or you will erase the old frequencies. It will also allow you to listen to diffrent groups saved under diffrent numbers. I know that all this sounds confusing but take your time sure people complain about lack of instructions on programming it but once you learn that there are subfolders it will be easy. I love it!
I am not happy with the instructions. I have owned mine for about 6 months and still don't know how to program trunking. I have several conventions programmed and love listening to them. The search feature is great and overall quality is great. I feel like I have a gold mine and don't know how to fully use it and I don't care,because, I will find someone to program it for me if I don't buy the computer programming system for it soon. I think [...] can program these if they have the program in their computer system. Very nice scanner!!!!!! Scott.
this is the best scanner ever. i have own too many and this baby far out does them all. sound,trunking,stalker etc...
