The Pro-137 is an excellent all around scanner. I don't use it for nascar, I use it as a police emergency scanner and it gets the job done. The picture on the RS website doesn't do this scanner justice, it is actually a beautiful blue/black and silver colored scanner. It's performance is second to none and it is easy to use. I use software to program it, and it takes just a few minutes. I like the two included antennas, one short and one long, they both work great. It has many features only more expensive scanners have and it has performance to mach. All in all a super radio for all your scanning needs.
I'll start by saying I use my scanners when I'm out storm spotting for DPS and use them to monitor not only neighboring county spotters, but also to monitor POLICE/FIRE/EMS radio traffic as well. I was a little unsure of purchasing this scanner. I went in intending to purchase the significantly cheaper smaller red race scanner, however it's no longer available, so I researched this one and decided to splurge and buy it. I am so grateful that I did buy this scanner. It comes preprogramed with all race car drivers frequencies, however that's not what my intended use was so I was easily able to clear the entire scanner of existing frequencies and program my own. The best features are the ability to add a 'tag' to a frequency you program (ex. instead of it just saying 111.1111, you can program it to say 111.1111 and below it you can put 'police dispatch'). Aside from being able to program channel names, you can also program names for the channel banks. For example if you program a bank as 'Dallas Police' and when you push the number to turn it off, it displays 'Dallas Police CH Bank OFF' and when you press it to turn it on it of course says 'Dallas Police CH Bank ON'...GREATNESS!!! You can also program SKYWARN freqs in it and access them by pressing only two buttons...again GREAT!! Another great thing is the signal stalker, all you do is hold the scanner next to a radio while it's keyed up and it'll lock onto the frequency even without knowing the range of it...GREAT!!! The ONLY bad thing is the belt clip system. Instead of just being a belt clip, it has the swivel clip (popular with some cell phones). So if you have it on your belt and need to pull it off you have to rotate the scanner upside down and pull it off. Other than that this scanner is perfect for me!
i use the scanner to hear whats happenning in the city of boston and this is great very up to date on police chases
I have owned all of Radio Shack's Race Scanners this one is by far the best one yet!!! Pro 99 was favorite until this one came along.
After further Usage,I rate this scanner even higher, in addition to things already mentioned...This Handheld has excellent sensitivity,,and selectivity,,just like its big brother the uniden br330t,,Battery life with 2500 mah energizer rechargeables, usually run 14-15 hours on just 3 AAA batteries, Very Good!...If you don't need trunking, as i do not..This is a superb scanner overall !!
Helps me keep aware of what's going on in the city pertinent to my work.

Very Nice Scanner for the Money,,Doesn't do Trunking and Tones, But as a Conventional Scanner, Its hard to beat,,Quite Similar to the uniden BCD330T in looks and function,,Receives very clear signals,,hardly no squelch tail,,a big plus!..Very Durable little scanner, and nice belt clip,,Picture is deceiving on color,,The Blue is actually nice looking.
The scanner is close to looking like the BCT-396. It's made by Uniden. It already has the race drivers pre-loaded (last changes would be 2007)so you probably should have it re-loaded at the race track. It's better than the Pro-84 in as much to looking at the display for the driver's name and Car number. Using it for scanning conventional broadcasts can be somewhat of a challenge but it's easy to master. It would be better once software is available.
