Not able to work with existing vonage?
By joe the plumberVerified Reviewer from kissimmee, fl on 10/23/2008
Pros:
Compact design, Easy To Set Up, Good Sound, Nice Features, Strong Signal
Primary use:
Business
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've seen, on this website and a few other retailer reviews, that the phone cannot be used with an existing account and that a new number is required. I use my regular phone at home (with a vonage number) and then switch to the v-phone when on the road/different state, etc. I use the same telephone number and all calls are routed to my v-phone. The trick is you must log to your vonage web account, click the link which states "add-ons" and then "move-a-number". Your registered Vonage devices appear. Select the home number you want to temp. move to your v-phone, continue, then select the USB device. Now all home calls are routed to where-ever you are in the world. If you want, you can also use the forward link and have all calls to your house forwarded to your hotel room (remember, they have free call forward, too). Cool! I love this device - saves me tons of headaches!

Won't work with Windows Vista

It's easy to configure with Windows XP, but with Vista just forget it. On Vonage's website, there are suggestions for it to work with Vista, but they don't work. I tried and tried. Since Vista has been out for quite a while I would think Vonage would have updated the device by now, but they haven't. Anyway, the product does do what it's advertised to do, just not with Vista. Also, FYI, don't try it in a Mac, even if you have software that can run Vista on a Mac. I've read horror stories about trying to use this Vonage USB drive that trashed the Mac OS.

I am a vonage customer already and contacted them directly. I was told I could purchase this item at retail location then contact them and have it set up for my home account already in existence. No separate line needed.

One thing to know...
By KB205 from Connecticut on 5/26/2008
Primary use:
Personal

A good thing to know that I didn't before buying... This USB unit requires a separate Vonage service plan from your Vonage home service. This information was not available anywhere when I was researching the product.

Simply plug it in to your pc. Connect to a WI-FI signal pay [$] per month for unlimited long distance and your on your way. You also get all the phone features like call waiting call return and caller id, etc... Once you plug it in takes less than a minute to connect to server and a phone keypad comes up. Simply dial number and your talking baby. If you want to pay less there is a plan for [$]per month for 500 minutes. It also allows you to talk to 5 European countries for free with unlimited service [$]). This is another great idea. I use it for my home service. I got rid of my cable internet service and use a wifi service in my neigborhood to have my residential vonage phone take care of all my phone needs. I am saving money and am very satisfied. I am thinking about dumping my cell phone and only using this system. Disadvantage though is you either need to have a computer handy with either broadband connection or wifi signal. For me that's fine. For others it might not be. One last thing. You can take the v phone anywhere in the world to make and accept phone calls. Great feature for world and business travelers. you'll love it, ENJOY!!!
