Disappointing for Elders
By Disappointed customer from Montana on 8/23/2008
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Purchased this unit for elder parent (many do so) especially because it has the remote pendant. The pendant design is dreadful...why? Because it is so sensitive it goes off when bumped and emergencies are called. Secondly, it is proving not to be a reliable system. When looking for emergency back up - we NEED it to work properly. Furthermore - getting Tech help is almost impossible.

My Mother has used a lifeline phone for 5 years in 2 separate locations. She has never set it off accidentally. I recently purchased this phone to save the $35.00 a month. The button on the necklace is smooth instead of being slightly indented like the life line necklace buttons. She set it off 4 times in less than a week by just barely hitting it accidentally. She even wore the necklace tucked inside her bra and it still would go off. Don't waist your time and money.

Look, I don't care for a lot of RS phones. The more you pay, the better the quality. Don't buy cheap ones there. This phone is really awesome.
We love it. And if you are really thinking about it, get it now, while it is on sale. you are saving almost half. It will never be cheaper.
You won't be sorry. I want my 96yr old gma to get one, too. ( also hearing impaired, and remote good for her) This is the most honest review you will get. I am no friend or employee of RS, but when one is good, others should know about it.

this works wonderful. I have a lady in our church who falls often and lives alone. I bought her one and she has had to use it three times. once she even fell on a sharp object and poked her eye out and would have bled to death the Dr. said had she not had it as she couldn't get up to call for help. I now have bought them for several people in our church.

the only draw back is that the remote needs to be guarded so that it elliminates accidental operation of the pendant. i have been called a few times from my mother accidently activating the pendant while sleeping. other than that the system works great. wish radio shack would upgrade the pendant. or i may have to do it myself. this system allows peace of mind without a monthly fee
