I purchased this radio to use as base unit for my house. I can get almost a mile away in my car with a midland mobile unit then reception falls away fast. But, it is great value for the money.
This CB is Great!I use it usually when I get home from school.I put It on my 40' antenna and it helps a lot.Awesome CB radio!
I used it in a Jeep Jamboree and I couldn't ask for a better handheld CB
I bought this at the first Radio Shack I found for a US Stateside road trip my wife and I recently took. It was a great help listening to traffic reports on the CB, and weather reports (very useful while in Florida) on the Weather Radio.
Although I make my living with Technology, my Wife does not, and she was able to use it with ease, as was my Mother (another Techno-Can't). All controls were easy for her to understand and operate.
Unless you use an external antenna, your range will be limited, but it posed no problems for the few miles in any direction we actually needed it for.
We found it extremely useful, and have no problems recommending it to those with basic requirements.
This Radio is AWESOME. It transmits like a Pro. Just get an Antenna that will TX and RX for long distances. I love this Radio.
This is a great radio if you buy the right antenna. I could not pick up people 3 feet away from me with the stock antenna. I bought the radio shack Magnet mount antenna and can talk for about 2-5 miles now.
Just an awesome portable CB. I use in Colorado/Sonora Desert and get up to 5 miles with the included 8" antenna and easily get 20-25 miles using my 6' whip antenna w/BNC connector, and that's surrounded by mountains-my cell phone can't even connect out there so this CB is a life saver!

I had to be 10 feet away to make it work. Eazy to use but not worth [$]!!! They should not even sell this thing :<
Great, great, great, loud and clear. Great battery and point to point, read you "lima charlie" over!!!!
if you plan on talking to anyone farther than a mile, get somthing else
It sucked and I could not go more than 2 feet before it would stop transmitting
I have lost the rechargeable NI-CD battery. Naturally one would think that this is a replaceable item as these batteries do wear out. The store was no use and the customer support told me that Radio Shack doesn't have a part division anymore. [...]
I use my TRC-241 as a loaner to members in my 4-Wheel Drive Club. For short distances (less than 100 yards, inside a vehicle) it's a good radio. Can't expect a whole lot from an 8 inch antenna.

A good radio is not an option in where I go!

Great Radio but you will need a larger ant. to get better Reception
the best radio ive had/u jus have to hook up the right antenna to it/i get between 2 miles and 6 miles/cant complain/best in emergencies/keeps u in touch/stock antenna isnt good at all but if u buy the right 1 its more than enough
nice radio
this radio is very good for enything talking to truckers searching for things and just scanning for fun i would recomment this radio to enyone who likes to search and just for play around
Of the available handheld CB radios available (which are darn few) this is the best that I have found. 30 years ago, we had dozens to choose from. Not now. These work better in mountainous regions than the GMRS radios of any wattage. With an optional telescopic antenna, I can get 6-7 miles in the Adirondacks. Which is all mountains! Buy GMRS for close-contact use (keeping track of the kids, etc.) This CB is the choice for serious distance from a handheld.

Works well for short distances (1 to 4 miles). Battery life between charges lasts a good couple of hours.

I bought three of these things two did not work but one did. The one that worked had a very short range on the whip antenna. The other two I returned to the store. When is RS coming out with a new handheld CB?

I am very pleased with this product so far I got it the last weekend and since then I got Magnet mount antenna and the recpeption is great I can even pick up weather stations up out of Oklahoma this CB weather receiver is darn sesitive and is a great piece of equipment. I also brought a Spkr/mic so that when I go bike riding I don't have to keep taking it off my belt to talk. I would really recommend this produt to anyone

Overall, this is a good radio...The range is great if you use the right antenna, but as with all mobile radios, terrain is the biggest factor in reception. With a Little Will whip antenna mounted on the trunk of my car, I'm able to get a good 2 to 5 mile range at maximum power. I use it for highway driving, to monitor where the police are hiding and where there's construction.
I like it. The range isn't as great as some radios, but that can be fixed with an additional antenna. I used this when I was moving across the country and it helped me a lot. Best portable CB I have used.

I read the reviews and thought that maybe people just got some bad equipment. Well I doubt it. I bought one along with my neighbor. Theirs didn't work at all and exchanged it. Then we get about 3 tenths of a mile work or reception. Junk. Taking it back tommorrow.

Good handheld Radio. Not a substitute for a mobile or base radio. Reception is not bad outside the vehicle, but inside with the engine running you lose all but the closest Stations. That's not the radio's fault.

I LOVE IT IT IS MY FUN THING TO DO WHEN I GET HOME FROM SCHOOL I CAN TALK TO MY FAMILY GREAT RADIO
I use this radio for hunting but it has poor reception for the price we paid.
I love this CB Radio. I do not use the stock Antenna that came with the Radio. I have a Huge bottom load BNC Antenna on the Radio. The Transmittion is Great. This was the smartest thing I ever did when I bought this Radio. Great Radio.
This would be a good radio for the work site, but it's only good for VERY close range.
I am a Amateur Radio Operator and this radio is a good radio but if you want to get out anywhere you need either a Magnetic Mount or a large whip antenna. Many people make the mistake of thinking that the poor reception and transmit power is because CB Radios can only transmit 4 watts of power. That is not the case what is really going on is the little antenna "Rubber Ducky" IS TERRIBLE even for my HAM Radio it is terrible they are good for CLOSE RANGE BUT NOT FOR LONG RANGE COMMUNICATIONS. When I say close range I mean around the block close. It is not anything that Radio Shack did or anyother companies it is just howw the radio wave travels. My suggestion is to buy a whip antenna that screws on to the top of the radio that will give you some more range, or if your going to use it in the car buy a Magnetic mount antenna for the roof. That will work the best.
Pros - Strong battery, WX alert reception, 3M range with external antenna Cons - Poor sound quality from speaker, not loud enough, 1M range or less with rubber ducky Conclusion - Awesome radio. I had this during the 2005 hurricane season when I lived in northern Florida. DON'T BE CAUGHT DEAD W/O A CB LIKE THIS! Outstanding battery life (Ni-MH). NOAA and National Weather Service alerts are the best. Now I am in tornado alley in Oklahoma...another great reason to own this radio. Buy!
Shore do hope I get my money back , hav'nt heard a voice yet (even my bace with a lineare). I wonder if this radio will bounce as good as the rubber antena it came with. There go's for portable.
Excellent CB radio and design; compact, good sound quality (for a handheld)and very good transmission/reception. However, you will need an external antenna. Skip the one listed with the radio on the Radio Shack site and go for the 39" magnetic-mount mobile CB antenna (21-972). Followed a previous reviewer's recomendation. He was right!
I have had this radio for about a year now and it has its up and downs i am a hunter and i love the fact that i can keep incontact with my faimly and/or friends back at the camp but the only down fall it that the antenia it not the greatsest so i but one on my truck and it seems to work great. This radio is durable i have dropped this radio seveal time on the concrete and it still work great. This is an great radio if you are just wanting to comunicate with people that are in close range.
This handheld is a pretty nice radio. although, the antenna that comes with it does not get very good range. The box says it gets a 4 mile range, but you are lucky to get a half mile range. If you purchas this item, be sure to get an addational antenna.
This is a pretty good handheld radio; more so for weather band than as a CB unless you use an optional external antenna. Reception for the CB band is poor with the stubby antenna that comes with the radio. The weather band works well with the short antenna. I ordered a 39" magnetic-mount mobile CB antenna (21-972) and a RF BNC adapter (278-120). The radio (both the weather and CB bands) works great with the new antenna.
I bought one and put it on my motorcycle. It works great for me. I used a separate antenna. You can't expect much range from the stubbie antenna. I have been well pleased with the product and bought another one for another bike I have. People that I talk to tell me it sounds as good as the $600 radios they have.
The TRC-241 Handheld Weather Alert CB Radio is a so so radio for me. The reception was really poor and I could not receive any radio transmission from a any truck drivers down busy Highway 99. I ended up returning mine due to bad reception.
This is a great radio . I have had it for 4 years and it is VERY durable! It's range is about 1/2 mile but you can hookup a mobile antenna and get about 2 1/2 miles. The rechargable battery lasted me 1 week and I used it alot.
