I used mine with the magnet mount antenna on a 4x4 trail to communicate with others in my group. I have no complaints and can recommend it to others that need it for a similar application. I cannot comment on long distance communications.

OK, here's something that will help you greatly if you bought this product and don't get any reception and/or can't "get out" on the transmit while using the mag mount external rubber duck antenna. None of the following is in the owner's manual and it should be.
You'll need an SWR meter to tune the mag mount rubber duck antenna. Place the antenna on the vehicle and plug the antenna into the SWR meter and the SWR meter to the hand-held CB. With the CB on ch19 press the xmit button an observe the SWR. Ideally you want a low SWR 1.2 or less. If it's too high remove the black tip from the antenna and adjust the screw either up or down until the lowest SRW is achieved. You must replace the antenna cap each time you check the SWR as it has an effect on the antenna.
I thought this radio was junk until I discovered that the mag antenna was tunable and I was able to get a low SRW around 1.2, after which I was able to received and transmit at acceptable distances.
Hooking the radio to a base station antenna I was able to transmit and receive at distances between 1-10 miles.
Transmit power was a full 4w when plugged into a 12v power supply, but only around 3w on internal battery power.
Hope this helps.
I bought this unit to use for off-roading in and out of my 2007 Jeep. I pick up nothing but static from inside my Jeep, even when hooked up to the external antenna supplied. Likewise, I'm unable to send with the external antenna. Hooking the DC power cord to the cig lighter outlet in the Jeep produces a whining sound in the radio and the static jumps up about +2 in signal strength. I even tried hooking the power directly to the battery, and it still whined. I was able to communicate about max 1 mile with the radio mounted antenna when I was outside. Don't waste your money on this product, get a real CB radio and antenna.
Good if this is your first CB. I like the scan mode to see whos out there. I mostly use it to listen on how the roads are. The sound tracker mode works awesome. It cuts down the static by about 70%. Its a nice CB.

I have one, the magnet mount antenna is good for short ranges but I recommend you buy a larger antenna for longer distances, I am currently running mine off of 2 antennas and I am overpowering the cbs in some of the rigs on the interstate.
