noise canceling feature didn't work
By DB from Liberty, MS on 8/7/2008
Primary use:
Personal

I tried this headset specifically for the noise canceling feature, as i work in very noisy environments. In short, it didn't work. In fact, it actually made the background noise much much worse. The people I talk to said that they could barely hear me for the noise (and i have a loud distinct voice), and that the noise was so loud that it was almost unbearable for them. I tried using it in a quiet room, but it seemed to pick up every tiny sound and amplify it, and after a while, it would create its own noise. I exchanged it for another one of the same type, but that one had the same problem. I then exchanged it for the Moto H680 which doesn't have noise canceling, but the sound quality is so great that it makes up for it. And sound quality is what it's all about for me. I suppose it's possible that i had two defective ones, but i didn't want to chance it a third time.

This is a great product. It's little heavy so you always know it's on your ear but fits extremely well. The only bad thing is a little static in the background when you talk, but you really need to listen to hear.

After all the bluetooth headsets that I've tried, this one probably is the best you can get for the value. It's a nicely designed headset and has some pretty good features built in.

First off, this thing is REALLY comfortable. Like, you could wear it 8+ hours with no problem at all. The earbud is soft and squishy instead of hard plastic, and the same goes for the earhook--way comfortable. The noise cancelling mic works pretty well, people couldn't hear the wind noise or engine noise in my now dead Dodge Spirit, and they can't hear anything at all in my new Saturn. It's pretty durable, surviving a few drops so far, and the carbon fiber accent piece is pretty classy. Multipoint is another good feature of this bluetooth, even though I won't be using it since I only own one phone. It also has a great battery life, along the lines of having to charge it once a week at most.

Now for the not so great issues it has:

First and formost, this thing has static if you move your phone from one side of your hip to the other, or even lower than your hip. I suggest using a front shirt pocket if applicable. The static gets pretty bad if the phone resides inside your pocket. Also, the all-in-one button that it has can be a REAL pain if you don't hit it right. Be careful adjusting your volume in the middle of a call, because you might hang up on them.

But honestly, after all the searching and testing, I've come to like the Voyager 520 because it is an all-around performer. Sure it has issues in some areas, but ALL bluetooth headsets do, and because of that, I'd settle with a decent all-around performer over a fancy headset that only excels in one area.

Light easy to use very clear signal. Eliminates background noise. I tested it inside store standing next to sound speakers on very high but no background sound came through. Sometimes switching connection between two phones gets iffy.Try store purchase before buying online. I only paid [$] after $10 rebate and you can test it first in store with 30 day return.

I had a Motrola Bluetooth and had trouble with it I went and got this one. I would recommend this one to everyone. I can wear it all day longe and hardly know it is there. I use it with a Samsun A707 C and have no problem with it. I have not missed a call since I got it. I had the wind blow it out of my ear one time(50mph) Thats the only time I take it out beside bed time.

I purchased the motorola. It would not due for me. Hoping paying more, would provide me a better product. I got what I paid for. over 60 bucks and I still get a spotty signal, and it's not as secure in my ear as I thought. For the price I paid, I am not pleased with this product. The volume isn't loud enough even though it does cancel the noise out. Still isn't worth the price.

I have owned my bluetooth for about 3 months now and I could not be more pleased. The device works very well with my phone. Pairing up with my phone took about 3 seconds and I have not had a problem since. I can wear the headset, leave the phone on the charger and be anywhere in my house, same with the office - the book says 30 feet, I easily go 40-50 feet with awsome clarity. I am VERY pleased with this product.

The 520 paired incredible easy. It synced with my IPhone within a few seconds. I've been using it for three days, and it has not once lost its connection with the phone (as long as I stay within 30ft). And, after three days of what I consider heavy use, it is just now being placed in the charger, so expect 8-9 hours of talk time out of this one. It is lightweight and comfortable, so most people could expect to wear this all day and maybe even forget it's there.

The down side is the amount of static. I find myself at times relocating it to my other ear while driving to help eliminate some of it. If you travel more than 6 feet from the phone, the static gets increasingly worse. I've looked online and it appears to be a known issue with this device. Customer service simply says to keep the phone on the same side of your body as the earpiece. That's ridiculous. Unless I'm 20ft. tall and I'm exceeding the range by simply wearing it on my belt.

Overall, if you use a BT headset for short trips, or are always near your phone when using it, the 520 is a great device. The battery life alone destroys most others. But, for the audiophile out there, look elsewhere.

I had a previous Plantronics model which was good but defective so I returned it for the Voyager for the sale price of only [$]. I love this bluetooth. It has not dropped a call, became fuzzy, or had any connectivity issuses at all. I would strongly reccomend buying this!

This is the most comfortable and clear bluetooth that I've ever had. I used to be a die hard Jabra fan,but since I tried this Plantronics headset I had a change of heart. I loved it so much I got one for my wife. I am very impressed with the sound quality as well as the range. I have a Nokia 6126 and it works excellent with this phone.
No static or crackling. nothing but a clear voices. I even asked the other party how it sounds and they say it sounds great. I love this head set!

After doing lots of research [...] on Bluetooth I came to this choice. And I'm very glad I did! I've had mine now for three weeks and it's so comfortable (sometimes I forget it's there) and clear that I catch myself talking in areas of loud noise (busy store, restaurant, driving in the car) and forgetting that I use to raise the volume up on the phone and plug the other ear. I also leave the phone in my jeans pocket and the signal is always strong. I've even left the phone on my kitchen table and walked to the couch 8ft away and it's still very clear! My wife went and bought another brand that had great reviews but after using mine for a couple of hours she took hers back and got a Plantronics. And she?s still glad she did. I've heard that the multi switch is kind of hard to use but I don't think so at all. I haven't had one problem with it not doing what I want. I suggest this one to all.

I walked in wanting to take advantage of a sale for a motorola h500, but there was nothing left. The manager at this location recommended this because of the new technology embedded in the unit, so I thought I'd try it. I got home, charged it as instructed, paired it (no prob. pairing), and made my first call. That's as far as it got. From my hip holster to the unit in my ear, I had a crackling sound. I pulled the phone out of the holster ( I have a Blackberry 8820 ), and the crackling stopped. Put it back in, and it began again. Needless to say, I didn't even get more than 2 feet of distance between phone and earpiece and it crashed and burned. I returned it to my local store and went with a motorola brand h681 from another electronics store. This one paired in a few seconds, and works like a champ. Little to no static at 15-20 feet (distance between rooms and a wall in between the units) and I heard/was heard great. Motorola continues dominating the bluetooth earpiece industry.

So I got this to replace the H670 I just returned. The noise canceling is GREAT! We had a party and while I was on the phone the other person didn't hear ANY of the background noise.

Add to that the design is a little better. I'm still not happy with the range (If I put it on the opposite side of my body it goes static)

So far I've used it for 3.5hrs of talk time and it's been great. It does get a little uncomfortable after a while but that could be me getting used to the piece that goes INTO my ear..

The charging dock isn't very stable but it works well.

The audio quality is good enough that nobody can tell I'm on a headset and it doesn't sound like a speaker phone.

Pairing was quick and easy.

Added bonus I've noticed over cheaper bluetooth headsets, the cheaper models do not send your custom ring tones over to the headset, this one does. So I can tell who is calling while the phone is in my pocket and all I have to do is push the button to talk to them.

Overall I'm satisfied and will not be returning it. I'm still looking forward to more comfortable models with better range but this will do.

I was hoping to find a unit that would also allow me to listen to podcasts as well as for phone use but i don't believe this unit will work (other than phone use). Even so, I was sold on the comfort factor alone and thought I'd just use some regular earbuds for my mp3 stuff. The signal is so weak on this (and or my blackberry curve) that a conversation is indistinguishable if I place the phone on the opposite side of my body or even walk as little as 5-10 feet away (no obstructions!)

Not as good as the 510, and more expensive. If the phone is on your belt it sounds muffled. It's OK if the phone is right in front of you. If you walk more than 10 feet away the sound drops off. According to friends that I called when I was outside, it was noisy and they could hardly hear me. I use a Palm treo 700wx.

I had just bought this earpiece very recently. I really like the design of this earpiece. Apparently Plantronics thought of everything when making this one! I previously used Motorola earpieces (1st was HS820-which died on me recently and 2nd was H555- which I had initially bought to replace the 1st but got caught in the wash). I really like the one touch button functionality and that it comes with it's own desktop charging cradle. Plus the carbon-fiber patch is a nice touch too! Performance wise I have to give this earpiece an A++ and would highly recommend it to anyone looking a for an earpiece for their Bluetooth phone. Nice work Plantronics
