Using my Pro 90 scanner for more than 6 years here in Lee County, FL, I have put up with varying amounts of crackling and popping at various areas around the county while trying to trunk track in 800 Mhz.Yesterday I was at Radio Shack and casually found this new 800Mhz scanner antenna for [$], purchased it, and I hoped for the best.I drove my usual route across the county today and found no change in reception; the crackling and popping in certain areas of the county continue to plague my scanning hobby.I will be returning the antenna to Radio Shack.

I use this for my Pro-96 handheld scanner & it out performs the oringinal rubber ducky antenna. Whats great is that it helps bring in better reception on the 800 Mhz rang.

Cons:
Very Narrow Banded
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

I recently moved near a State Police barracks and was getting a lot of trunked action when I read about this antenna in a forum I decided to buy it. Works GREAT for the 800MHz Trunked BUT my "typical town frequencies" usually in the 480MHz don't come in as well anymore. So now I'm left either carring 2 antenna's or giving a little to get a little

Added this to my RS PRO-528 portable scanner and was pleasantly surprised at how well it works. Definitely an improvement over the stock antenna for 800 trunking scanning. A nice addition to a fine scanner and well worth the investment.

I currently owned a Radio Shack Pro-95 Scanner, and I'm still using this 800 MHz antenna. So far, it improved the reception. I can hear Trunking Radio Activity in Everett with no problems, and I can even hear as far as Seattle with clarity. It clearly proves that product useful for general and special use. I clearly recommend for people who really like listening to Trunking Frequencies or who needs a replacement antennas.

I bought this to improve 800Mhz trunking on my new GRE PSR500 (the most amazing scanner ever made, BTW). I live 20 miles outside of Boston and wanted to pick up digital and conventional trunking signals. While it slightly improved reception on conventional VHF-Hi/UHF frequencies, it offered no improvement at all on 800Mhz, and, in most cases, missed signals that the standard rubber duckie picked up. Returned this and got the "general" RS rubber duckie instead. That one does everything this one should have done--picks up 800Mhz far better than this one.

i have used scanners and cb radios since the days of crystal controlled units. when i went digital this antenna sold for only [$]. i bought it because it made my digital unit look more professional. after my experience with different units and antennas, i have come to the conclusion that this antenna receives no better than the standard rubber duck antenna. it does look good on the radio, though

Purchased this Item not knowing if I even needed it!
I added it to my pro-96 that I purchased 1 week ago. The antenna made already clear reception even clearer. The pro-96 has a "signal" meter when digital trunking and it made the signal much more steady than the stock antenna.

If you are looking for perfectly clear reception on digital this is the answer!

By Jonathan T from Newport News VA on 9/19/2006
Pros:
Durable, Easy to use, Good reception, Good Value

This Antenna improved the strength of the signals I wanted to get. I work at the Airport and was wanting to pick up the frequency from my apartment about 2 miles away. It seemed like it was a weaker frequency and I could never get it on my Pro 97 scanner with stock Antenna. Today I picked it up with no problems at all. It was a clear channel. It also removed the majority of the static from the other channels on the trunk.

By K P from North Alabama on 12/8/2005
Pros:
Durable, Easy to use

This one didn't do much for me compared to the standard antenna. I bought this hoping it would increase my 800MHz reception in addtion to the other ranges. I noticed that it preformed slightly better than the standard antenna for the 800MHZ range. I still had mediocre reception outside the city (as before). I guess it depends on where you live. I returned this model and will give the 20-283 model a try.

I heard all the raves about how the RS800 antenna pulls in the 800 band. My experience is not the same. I tried it on the BCD396T and noticed absolutely no difference over the stock antenna. Others using the 396 say it performs wonderfully. I suppose it depends on your location.

A great value for the ...
By Tony B from East Brunswick, N.J. on 11/17/2005
Pros:
Durable, Easy to use, Good reception, Good Value

A great value for the money. In my area, this antenna brings in the 800-900 MHz frequencies nice and clear. It offers a modest increase in clarity in the 400-500 MHz trunked frequencies. If you primarily listen to the lower frequencies, antenna model 20-034 may be more suitable for you. I haven't stacked this up against industry-standard atennas like the Diamond RH77CA, but I'll bet it compets well with it. Physically, the antenna's size and slenderness doesn't raise your handheld's center of gravity like the 20-034 does. This reduces the chance of the scanner tipping.

By T S from MD on 11/14/2005
Pros:
Durable, Easy to use, Good reception, Good Value

This is a very large improvement over the stock Antenna, in my area this Antenna has taken away the digital noises and drops. Improved the sound of my pro96 almost 100%. I wouldn't think that a $17.00 upgrade would perform so well but it does. So if you are using your pro96 to receive Digital bands this is a MUST HAVE.
