Got this earphones becuase all I have is a headphone. I use them while hanging out with friends and in school. The sound is so good that it feels like your wearing an expansive earphone. I listens to Black Metal and it sounds great. The only thing that is not so great about this earphone is it's color and the cord's flexibility.

These are fantastic sounding earbuds! The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star rating is because the wire is kind of a pain. It's pretty stiff and gets in the way unless you bend it to form it to fit what you're doing at the time. Since the wire is not completely flexible, it can easily pull the buds out of your ear. However, it is worth the inconvenience to get this kind of sound.

First of all, this headphone - if it is anything like super.fi 3 studio, would have costs [$], so this is already a steal!I was surprised at the performance of this headphone as i have tested it againsts many headphone, from cheap (iPod freebies), entry level IEM (Sony EX 71, shure E2c, Sony Ericsson freebie ). I'm not an expert when it comes to headphone, though I have tired a lot of headphones and IEM. super.fi 3 offers a more clarity compared to E2c which I have purchased in london for [$], which is around [$], although the bass isnt as heavy as E2c, but in everything else superfi 3 does better than e2c, and again, for what you get, this is a steal. an airplane adapter which would costs [$] from the manufacturer, a flange tip which costs [$] a pair, and sounds that is worth every penny. The total of what this should costs would be around $160+ and it only costs [$]! a steal! at that price, I would highly recommend it to anyone. One word of warning, if youre anything like me or worse, you might be put off by the fact that the casing is red and shiny, therefore making it prone to scratches. If you are clumsy and like things to be all nice and shiny, you might want to stay clear from this, but for [$] i couldnt careless if i scratch it 100 times.

I waited until the price dropped to purchase these, strictly because I already own a pair of Etymotic ER6's. My first impression is that they seem quite durable especially compared to the flimsy cord on my ER6's. Fitment is quite nice, they are comfortable and it was easy to get a snug fit though I did try a few of the different tips, the smallest ones fit my ears best. The over-the-ear cord set up is handy so they aren't being pulled out of your ears if they get caught on something. The super fi's provide a fairly wide soundstage but you still know you're listening to headphones, whereas higher dollar phones will make it seem as if you are at the venue or in the studio with a much wider, open soundstage. The highs are crisp, mids are warm but not muddy. The lows were impressive compared to my ER6's, giving a decent gutsy feeling with plenty of attack and punch. Again, this is compared to the ER6's; there are other phones out there designed for extended bass. The highs cut off at 13kHz which may seem low if you've ever read specs for other phones but in real world applications, not much you're listening to goes above 13 kHz. (99.9% of people cannot hear at 20kHz) Also, after listening to a 20kHz to 20 Hz sine sweep, they do reproduce the upper resgisters, just not as gracefully as the rest of the freq. range. There are plenty of fitting options and a nice metal case which may actually come in handy. All in all, I am quite impressed, especially for this price. These may become my new workhorse over the ER6's.

*Just a note: as others have mentioned earlier...

If there is no bass, or little bass when you're listening or these phones don't seem any better than the ones included with your player: THEY AREN'T FITTED PROPERLY!

When you find the right fit there will be plenty of low end, you will feel a pressure difference in your ear, kind of like when you fly, and external noises will be barely audible, even at low player volumes.

I use these when I'm walking, traveling, exercising or just chilling out when I want to block out most of the outside world noise. These do a good job of blocking noise while still allowing you to talk to someone if you want. The sound is excellent, very balanced with great detail, and comfortable. My only beef is that the cord is very stiff, and it's difficult to work out the kinks. I heated the wire with a hair dryer and GENTLY stretched it section by section, and that seems to have helped some. If you use these when exercising, keep in mind that since they are "in-ear", you will hear your own breathing somewhat, as well as some heel strike when walking or running. If this bothers you, don't use an in-ear setup.

I have spent a few hundred dollars trying to find in-ear headphones that sound clear, have a Y-shaped cord (that asymmetric cord is USELESS unless you constantly lug your equipment around in your front pocket and tolerate the extra flapping cord!) that is very adjustable, long enough to shove in a pants pocket for yardwork, or to hook up to the computer and still have room to move about, and easily wrappable for portability. I use this on my laptop, my work PC, my archos 504 and my 3rd gen iPod nano, so I needed a set that met a variety of settings and would sound decent across all platforms. These do. For reference, I have e2c shures (overpriced, muddy and difficult to fit but great cord) denons (fantastic sound but cord is way too small, have to hunch over the laptop or the pc) and sony (stupid wrap around the neck cord but sound ok)

I highly recommend these as of now. Not sure of durability yet, they seem durable, so if it turns out they're fragile, I'll come back and comment again.

Decent sound, bass not too good... they hurt your ears after a little bit because they are such an awkward shape. I flew from Germany back to the US and it was terrible. They do not stay in your ears very well. I would personally recommend the Sony MDR-EX51LP earbuds. I have 2 pairs and have had several before this (the only reason I bought more is because I lost them). They have better sound quality and better bass and better noise cancellation for the price.

I own a pair of the spectacular higher-end Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro earphones ($160-$180) with which I am very happy. I also own a pair of the entry-level Shure E2C ear phones ($60-100). I purchased these UE Super.fi 3 Live Pro earphones based purely on their great low price ([$]) to use for activities such as yard work and for use in weight room where I may somewhat abuse them (ie. catch cable on branches or equipment, sweat all over them). I certainly did not want to abuse my Super.fi 5 Pros in this way since I do not want to re-buy at [$]. The Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 Live Pro phones sound better to me than the E2Cs. They have nice details on the highs/mids and adequate lows (although I am not a bass freak). The E2C's were a bit better on the bass but I found the E2C's sounded too warm and muddy in most cases and lacked the mid/high details. While the UE Super.fi 3 Live Pros do not sound as complete as the [$] Super.fi 5 Pro which have more sparkle on highs/mids and deeper bass alond with better soundstage, they sound pretty darn good in comparison to the widely adored Super.fi 5 Pros. I was somewhat surprised at how good they sounded for earphones in the [$] price range. I do not think that you can go wrong with these "high-end sounding" earphones with a budget [$] price tag.

I have had in-canal headphones before so I thought I knew what I was doing. They didn't sound bad but they didn't sound any better than my stock Sansa foam bud earphones. Also, they hurt my ears after about 10 minutes. Here is the key: if you don't hear the bass, they aren't in right. Keep trying. Once they are in right, the sound is rich and they are comfortable. They feeling is odd but not painful. One tip for getting them in:
Once they are in the canal, take your thumb and pull the end of the headphone forward toward your head. It should tug your ear outward. That move was what situated them properly. They feel much more secure and I can't hear anything around me.
It took about a half hour of fiddling to find the right way to get them in but I now feel they are worth the money.

it's true the cable is very stiff.it's meant to be durable more than anything. the customization (the fact that it comes with 5 different styles of earpads) and almost everything is replacable. Bend your cable too far? need a new one? [...] it's a really well-known company with a great product history. they aren't insanely good headphones, but chances are if you're shopping for them anywhere that isnt a music store, you dont know the difference.the only thing i wish is that the ohms and frequency range were listed [...]ohms if i remember were 16ish and f-range was 11-30ish.they sound great for something you can buy in such a generally-retail store. i'm really suprised superfi put their stuff in anything but a music store.

By James H from New York on 5/15/2007

Before buying these I used HeadBanger Audio "Ear Subs". I had the older ipod with the ability to power headphones such as these without an external batery. When the new ipods came out this feature was deleted so I could not use them. On a lark I bought the ultimate ears at my local RS. Actually reading the instructions for once I inserted them and went for a run. I was amazed at the clarity and performance of these things! Well woth the price.

I purchased these some what on a whim because I forgot my head phones when i flew to Florida. When I first put them on I was apauled at the sound. I was ready to refund them and was supprised that RS was selling such garbage. As I played with them and finaly figured out how they where suposed to be worn I was astounded by how good they sounded. Putting them on propperly and propper fit is paramount to how they will sound. I highly recomend these head phones. They are compfortable for Hours on end and sound great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ****MAKE SURE YOU PUT THEM ON CORRECTLY****

By Heather V from Houston, TX on 3/19/2007
Pros:
Good performance, Good sound quality, Good Value

The sound quality is truely amazing!!! I experience music like never before. The cord is a little stiff, but once you get the hang of putting them in, they are comfy and out of the way. The cable-loop idea is a good one. Apart from avoiding constant tugging on the ear plugs, it also greatly reduces "microphonic" problems, when things touching the cords cause sound to be conducted up the cord to your ears, like a tin can telephone. This was a problem with the first reviewer.

Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good sound quality, Good Value

I have probably had hundreds of headphones over the years and these rank right up there with some of the best 'phones that I have ever had. Well balanced sound overall. Neither the treble or the bass is overwhelming, making it a very neutral sounding speaker, which is becoming to find. Since I have a very sensitive head, these are quickly becoming my headphones of choice for all applications, not just for portable music. Highly recommended!!!

By Lee A from Tennessee on 3/17/2007
Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good sound quality, Good Value

If you've never owned earphones of this style, open them up, and put them in your ears, they will sound horrific. The best thing I can tell you is to read the instructions these come with. By inserting these exactly as it is described in the manual, the sound quality becomes amazing. Their acoustic quality depends on them being perfectly sealed to the inside of the ear canal. When properly worn, they are also some of the most comfortable earphones I've ever worn. I highly recommend these. Don't give up on the first try though. Play with them, change the tips, etc. The better the fit gets, the better they sound. It's actually quite cool.

These earphones are not ...
By Tom N from NC on 11/24/2006

These earphones are not intended for iPod's or other Mp3 players. The first 3" of the cable at the ear plug side is a stiff wire. It needes to be bent into shape around the ear after insertion. The rest of the cable is of a heavy design that is not flexable enough to be coiled around the player when its not being used. The sound quality is average for this price range. A personal music device is supose to be fast and easy to use, with these earphones it is not. The cable is way to heavy for daily portable use. After 5 days the cable would still not lay flat or relaxed. It still had several S-Curves in it, which was caused by the way it was coiled up in the packaging. So you have a cable that will trace left to right down in front or down your back. This transferes a lot of friction induced noise to the headsets. These were intended for a home system or studio use. Thats where they belong.
