Couldn't believe how easy it was to set up and get running. Simple to use with a screen which was amazingly easy to read even with direct sun light!
The unit itself is a mediocre unit. The backet used for mounting needs significant imporvements. For the current price of [$] its a good unit. I was hesitant on buying it because of not so good reviews. Next time I'll probably go with a different brand, but it does the job...most of the time.
Overall, it's good. I had it about a week and I could not get it to turn on. I took it back to the store. The person working there, told me that there was a rest button. He showed me where it was. Since then no problems yet.
I like the way the entire mount is easily removable, as my Magellan GPS was just stolen from my car, however, I am NOT happy with my TomTom. I don't like that there is no option to pick routes based on distance, use of highways of other factors. It picks the fastest route, then when you choose alternates, doesn't give options.
Tom Tom does not work with Treo devices. I did not learn this until after I purchased the Tom Tom. It also froze up on me the first day. I had to research on the intenet to find the reset button.
I was torn between two models and the RS sales clerk told me he liked the Tomtom GO 510 and that it was more user friendly. He was right. You pay a little bit more for this unit but in the long run you will enjoy its features.
Amazing product!!! Still working as good as when I bought it ages ago
The Go 510 is a great GPS! It works right out of the box and the newest maps from TomTom ar more accurate than ever. Overall, it is very easy to use and the POIs are a very handy. I would highly suggest this gps to anyone looking for a inexpensive device with a few added gadgets!
Excellent extremely easy to use immediately out-of-the-box. Good battery life. Bluetooth works great. Does not recognize with N, S, E or W like N34W35983 High St.
It worked fine until one day it just would not power ON. I'll have to return it to the shop and see how long the replacement will last.
This is (by far) the best GPS I've ever used.
ther is no better gps and its bluetooth kinda hard to get off the stand but still very good
The maps are a few years out of date.
The maps in my area are not very good.
Very good, price kinda high but affordable.
one word: bluetooth
This is by far the best GPS unit I have ever used. Its simple and ready to go right out of the box.
Well, for out of the box, it's the best. Easy to use and it's a must have if you have recently relocated. Lots and lots of "points of interest". I don't know about the others but this TomTom is great!
Bluetooth and Ipod controls are cool!!!
The accuracy is amazing as well as the update speed. I'm also very impressed with the "feel" of how it routes. With every other system I have used (including PDA based Teletype and in-car based), the routing was always wrong or I found myself asking, ?why did it choose that!!!?? The new TomTom picks routes and navigates in a more natural ?drivers? way. I swear the QA team at TomTom personally tested every possible route! The 510 comes with all the US maps loaded on one SD card. I didn?t go with the higher model that has a 20Gig HD because I already own an iPod and the real only use for that storage is music files. You can control the iPod through the TomTom, but I don?t know why this would be better than just using the front of the iPod. In any case the connecting cable for the iPod is not out yet. Hands free on the TomTom is excellent. The screen clearly shows who called and the internal speaker is decent enough I didn?t have to use the external mic. I really like the ?Home? option. You can program a number you call the most (like?Home) so it is easy to get to. All other data entry is easy on the TomTom. The on screen keyboard is a little tight, but reasonable for average sized fingers. The 510 can receive traffic updates (and weather) through your Bluetooth phone, provided your carrier allows this data connection. Verizon does not. I have the Razr V3c and have tried all week to make it work. Even if you purchase the $60/mo data plan, Verizon has done something to the phone to prevent Bluetooth data connections. Looks like I?ll be going with a new carrier soon? If your carrier does not support the Bluetooth data connection or you don?t want to commit to paying the minutes, TomTom is going to be offering a RDS antenna that will receive traffic information over FM. It due out around August 2006. TomTom has a nice rerouting function if you find yourself in a jamb. It gives the option to route around a problem on the road by several hundred feet to three miles. It?s only useful if you are currently stopped or moving very slowly as it tends to start the reroute right at where you pushed the option. If you select it while you are moving at a significant speed it tends to leave you on the same route that you were on. There were times I tried this when I could see a backup down the road, but I hadn?t started slowing down yet. Rerouting is very fast. There are a lot of roads in the Detroit area and it completes routing in about 4-8 seconds, even when the route crosses the city. The voice prompts are outstanding. They are well done and very clear. Through there are a few funny terms that are used that crack me up. Like the use of ?Motor-way? instead of ?Expressway, Highway or Freeway?. This along with a website points to a device that is very euro-centric. This is not bad at all and it is a refreshing change to everything being American-centric. It?s a wonderful device and worth it if you travel in traffic or just like to explore. Hopefully it will come down a little in price so more people can but it. $600 is a little steep in my opinion.
