This is a great remote especially for the [$] price. It was nearly $100.00 when I baught mine and it was worth it then. Battery life will not be an issue if you use common sense. 1) turn the brightness all the way down, still easy to see in day and night. 2) Set it on the coffee table when not in use and the motion sensor is not a problem. Even if you bump it, it only stays on for less that 10 seconds. Hasn't been a problem for me yet, my first set of batteries lasted me 9 months, then I put it in storage for a year and a half and added one battery (took one out when I put it in storage) and it is still going.Did the phone call code download and it worked perfectly, I am running an HD TV, DVD player, Cable box and HDMI selector all working great, and one push of the M4 botton turns them all on and off... For [$] I may buy another and a few for Christmas presents. I promise you this will be the best reveives [$] Christmas gift you ever buy!!!!
After disabling the motion sensor on this remote the batteries will last much longer. You can get directions how to do that with a web serch it is very easy. But with the motion sensing on I would give this remote 2 stars since it's motion sensing is very sensitive draining batteries very quickly. If you walk near it will light up, forget sleeping near it with the motion sensor on since the batteries will last less than a month. I stop using the remote until I found out how to disable the motion sensor, but now that it is disabled I use it everyday. Of course if you don't mind shelling out cash for batteries every few weeks keep the motion sensor in.
The learning feature works good, all though at times I had to input the learning commands a bunch of times even though I know I was doing it right since I read the instructions like 5 times. But once you got everything saved and up and running it is great for running multiple devices.
A set of batteries last 25 days. Very poor design
Great remote if you know your way around electronics. If not, you might want something a little easier to set-up. The motion sensor on this remote is WAAAAY too sensitive. I opened up the circut board on mine and cut off the motion switch so now it turns on when you press any key (great feature). All in all it's a good remote though, it will definitly impress your friends.
Ive had this remote for a few years as well... It is slightly difficult to get it programmed just like you want it. But after some time, i got it and it was great. Yes it does demolish batteries...rechargeables a must!! But it is a nice remote.. i even got it to work my window AC unit from learning feature. That was kool. It'll pretty much work with anything that has remote sensor..after 30 min to an hour of your time.
Waste of money, (Edited by moderator.). Simply does not work as advertised. Custom programming only works for a handful of keys, and then not reliably. With this in mind, you basically have an expensive remote that will turn your TV on and off and control the volume, but very little else. Entering the manufacturer code for my satellite receiver resulted in only a few operable keys. Following the instructions to the letter, I tried reprogramming the remote keys by using my satellite receiver IR remote with very little success for a lot of effort - it is really quirky in how it will recognize a few keys but not the rest. A real disappointment, since I would really like a single remote for my AV equipment.
I have had this remote for about 3 years and I use it on four devices. It is good but it does eat up batteries. I had to call the company to get the codes but once they are in thats it no problem other than batteries.
This device is great. I have had it for a year and it only went through 1 set of batteries. It is very easy to program, it has an effective range, and it is neat to use. Recommended.
I have two of these remotes, one for the living room and one for the den. I love them. Wuth the code download feature and learning function (you'll need a working original remote for that one) the remote does everything I need to do to control my plasma tv, cable box/DVR, DVD and receiver. No buttons to collect dirt or break, easy to see in a dark roon (without glasses) and good "WOW" quotient. I took out the motion sensing device so it only turns on when you press it, but if you use rechargables, who cares?
In two years we went through three of these junk units (my wife likes it) It goes through batteries extremely fast (I think they have invested in the battery companies). but worst of all after about nine months the screen starts to blink and is no longer usable new batteries don't help. Niether could the Radio shack rep's they tried everything . Then would give us a new unit. The only solution that worked. After our third one we threw this battery eating piece of garbage away. Good luck to all that have bought one. I pray that you have better luck than we did.
The remote DOES burn up batteries pretty fast, but you can put it on a cushioned surface and it should help a bit. If you can't find the codes you are looking for, there is a 800 number in the manual to call for new codes. It's pretty neat because the people walk you through a process in which they use your telephone to download the new codes! I've done this once before and it will amaze anyone you let watch!
I have owned this great product since they came out 3 years ago. At first I despised it as any movement caused it to light up, thus killing my batteries. I conducted an online search and found instructions on removing the motion sensing part. Since removing that, the remote is awesome. I always have spare Li-ion batteries charged which I have to change about every 3 weeks. As another reviewer mentioned, go online and download your own codes. It is all explained on that site for everything you need. This remote has the potential of being the last remote you will ever need.
Rarely do I take the opportunity to review junk, but this remote is designed to waste batteries that are difficult to replace and no new codes are available online for anything past 2005. Do not waste your money.
I love this remote. Beyond the fact it has a very cool look, I don't mind the long size because of the sleek design. Drawbacks: 1. I still need to find the correct code for my DVD player and receiver. 2. The 2 week battery life stinks. But these 2 problems may now be overcome after reading other consumer reviews.
I can control my devices with ease as long as i don't have to use the ok function in guide plus the select button on the remote does not work for thin purpose and that is a bummer
I've had mine for over a year. I have to say battery life is short, but with my 15 min recharger, no problem. I control 5 devices with mine.
It has a flat screen. You have to look at it to find where the buttons are.
This is the best remote I've ever owned. If you don't mind buying a JP1 cable and using IR.exe on Windows, you can make this one do anything IR. You can build and upload your own IR codes and assign macros to accomplish tasks that remotes costing much more can't. For example, one touch to turn on your TV, turn on your receiver, set the receiver input and volume set the TV source, etc. A very healthy community of IC code enthusiasts can help you get the discrete codes for your specific devices. Discrete codes do the many specific functions that even the OEM remote may not do, such as specifically turning on or turning off the power as opposed to toggling the power. Getting the most from this remote requires digging in, studying the JP1 forums, then taking control of your great remote to have it do what ever you want it to do. Part of the cost of ownership is investing in 8 AAA rechargeable NiMi batteries and a charger. Expect to cycle them once every 10-14 days. With a bit of setup work, a pre-school child can successfully operate a very complex system. Your family can be very happy using this single remote for the entire system. The effort spend setting it up can enable your family members (from 5 to 105) to use your home entertainment system with a single remote. The user manual has enough information to make this a good remote. With a bit of research, this can be the best remote you've ever owned.
it works great the battery life was a problem but i just got 2 sets of recargables and no more problems
Junk. I'm lucky to get 10 days out of the four 3A batteries. I've spent more on batteries in 3 months than I did on the remote itself. Don't buy this item, just pick mine out of the trash.
Save your money. Remote turns on by itself. Batteries only last a week or two. Plain words...junk.
Multiple screens seems like a good idea, but constant switching screens is horrible. Also, battery lufe is killed because or motion sensor that goes off at the slightest footsteps in the room. Do yourself a favor and cut the sensor out.
Out of my 6 devices, it barely controls 2.
Model 2133 is not adjustable for contrast and tremble on/off. Battery life is one month on 4xAAA. Model 2137 is the new/improved one to get with all the goodies.
great but u need 2 tell people they can call support to turn off the trimble switch(make's the remote only go on when u touch the remote not by noise's) 2 make the battries last longer
Awesome product! I love it, however I do have one complaint, the battery life is horrible. I used it alot to control all of my electronic devices. I ended up returning it because I was replacing the batteries every several weeks. 4AA batteries cost lots of $$$ when you run through them like water. I went back to my origional universal remote who's batteries last a year with my heavy use. Maybe if they had a Kameleon remote with a charging cradle, I would def. buy it.
