This is a fantastic remote that is great for anyone. A learning remote with back lighting and voice-prompt setup that can't be beat. This is my second remote of this model I'm buying, this time for home use. The other one works great at work. If you have one of those TV's that other universal remote controls just don't like, the learning function of this remote is great. Good buy and great find.

Needed the learning function to program a new Insignia ([...]) LCD TV. There is some disparities between the voice commands and what is written in the manual. You may need to try both to see which works for you. Once I figured out the system, got the VCR, Direct TV and Insignia LCD TV all working on one remote...fantastic!

I replaced a harmony remote with this remote. I spent two days trying to program the harmony even with technical help from harmony We couldn't program the remote. I tried this remote because of the reviews it got. An I'm glad I did. I had this remote programed in less than an hour. It has all the functions of the more expensive remote except for the eject button. Its very user friendly, and has a well lite background that can be seen in the dark easily. I would highly recommend this remote to anyone. Oh I forgot to mention it only cost one fifth of the price of the other one.

Best Remote Ever

This is the best remote ever, especially for the price. It controls my very complicated home theater system with projector, over the air HD tuner with DVR and DVD player, & Pioneer receiver.

It learns features easily for the few buttons that the codes don't automatically input, the macro's work perfectly and the voice prompts make programming easy! It's also very ergonomic and much easier to use than those annoying flat, light up remotes. The real buttons mean you use your hands, not your eyes to punch stuff in. Really a great buy.

the 15-2146 remote

learning features, Nice Button Configuration, Nice Features
Best Uses:
High-End Equipment, Replacement

It does a good job at replacing some remotes, but it does have issues with certain models for DirecTV. Battery life is about 6 months with daily use, and the voice will help kill the batteries repeating "low battery" with every button push once running low.
However it does hold memory to change the batteries.

I've had other programmable remotes before, but this one allows me to run all 6 of my A/V components from one device--and with minimal loss of remote control of the functionality in those components. Being able to program specific functions to various keys is especially helpful in that regard. Combine that with the price and I would easily recommend this to a friend.

Quite a bit nicer than the [$] model that [...] originally tricked me into buying by saying that it was the only one with a PVR button. This remote has one as well and it much easier to use.

This remote replaced a ...
By Josh O from Florida on 5/29/2007

This remote replaced a broken universal I had for years. It operates my whole setup just fine. The only problem I had was that the power button when programmed for a RCA surround system didn't work. This, however, was easily remedied with the learn button feature. Simply taught the remote the power function and it worked fine. Also used this to add some other buttons I used that didn't immediatley opperate under the initial codes settings. The macros where very helpful in that with a little creativity you can use the remote and only very rarely have to switch the function which can be very time consuming (i.e. volume control is set to audio system while channel up and down is set to cable box). All in all it accomplishes everything I needed it to do.

By Ian C from Hicksville NY on 2/10/2007

I am extremely disappointed in this remote. I purchased it for a sight-limited family member, under the impression is was a voice-response learning remote. the store staff knew 0 about this particular model, and it's not voice response, it's just voice-giuded setup. on top of that, none of the listed codes work and neither did code search. code search stepped thru all the codes and suggested i try again . andhearing that it will only learn one remote's codes, it's going back monday.

By Leon B from Washington,DC on 10/22/2006

Bought it to replace 4 in 1 Radio Shack remote which stopped working on my Admiral Portable Color TV . After 4 hours of trying to find a code that would work, I gave up. My 50 year old son tried too, neither of us could get it to work! Returning it Monday.

By Don H from Gilbert, AZ on 9/30/2006

I purchased this "universal" controller yesterday. I bought it specifically for its "learning" function. It does learn, but it has a limited key capability, and once you start teaching, you have to teach every function on the dedicated remote, including numeric keys. Teaching all of the necessary keys on one remote will exhaust the learning capability. I'm returning it today.

Pros:

Exceptional value and functionality. I have never liked programmable remotes since codes didn't work or failed to put functions where I wanted them. I also did not like codes in this remote. The "learning" function was so easy to use, however, especially with the voice prompts, I easily put all functions exactly where I wanted them. This is a fantastic remote.

By S M from H on 8/20/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good Value

I had returned an RCA Learning remote because even with its learning, it did not do what I want. Since I had a Coupon, I bought this - $10 less than the RCA after the coupon. The first one of these I got was dead on arrival. Radio Shack exchanged it easily, but it did up my concerns about this remote. I was pleasantly surprised when I got home with the one that works. We have a Sanyo TV (about 8 years old) that we have tried several universal remotes on. None could use the PIP, switch from TV to video mode, or access the TV?s menu without a learning mode. This remote could do all three without even touching the learning feature. I was happy. I did use the learning feature to fine tune the VCR buttons, and even programmed it to use an old (over 10 years old) Pioneer CD changer. Aside from the learning mode, the 2 Macro buttons work well and easily, and the voice feature gives nice feedback during programming. I would have bought this at full price had I known it would work so well?.

By Rick N from Sonoma CA on 8/13/2006

I bought a GPX DVD player in June 06, a few months after buying this remote. The codes listed do not work. A code search yielded code 1031 that allows this remote to turn on/off the DVD player but all of the other buttons now cause incorrect or different actions by the DVD player. For example STOP generates a SKIP+ command. I'm still working on solving this problem.

By Korey K from Pereira on 3/13/2006
Pros:

Great remote for a decent price. The fact that the remote talks seems a bit excessive (and a tad bit creepy), but once it is set up, it no longer talks to you and works perfectly with ALL of my devices (even my audio receiver and DVR/Cable Box!) I Would recommend it to anyone that wants one remote that does it all
