Stores Never Have Cameras for It!
By DJ WolfVerified Reviewer from Pittsburgh PA on 11/26/2007
Pros:
Design of Product, Immediate Response, Sensitive
Cons:
$ fee for online service, Poor Camera Quality
Best Uses:
Family Protection, Summer Home
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The packaging is deseptive in it's wording. You have to buy a seperate membership if you want to use its online feature from another computer. Camera Quality is low. Design concept is cool. Software design could use improvemnet. Should be a little cheaper because of low quality of camera and software. It is great that it has many sensors for things like temp and H2O. If they raise the quality of cameras this would be a great product. And they should make online use free, or alot cheaper.[$] a month is crazy!! It was easy to set up.

Works great with high speed cable internet and wireless router. Able to view remotely for an additional very small fee. Can remotely turn on and off lights when away from home. Still using product for over a year now. I keep adding more wireless cameras (day/night) when available locally.

Very Poor Quality, Very Poor Performance
By The Sparkster from Aston, Pa on 9/19/2007
Cons:
Camera is Unavailable, Picture is all Lines
Best Uses:
None
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

60% of the time, the camera's picture would be "unavailable" to view. When you WERE ABLE to view the camera's picture, it had lines in the picture and then the picture would jump every 3 seconds. The starter kit does not come with a manual. You must print your own (137 pages). Remote access costs extra and you get the same UNAVAILABLE message when you check your camera's.

Reliable Wireless

Reliable
Best Uses:
Family Protection

This product is wonderful for the price. Like any wirelss network, you need to pay attention to what is already on your network before adding more. Check your frequencies, how many channels, and for anything that might interfere, such as neighbors or businesses that might be running a wireless network on multiple freqs and channels thereof. It is apparent that anyone that has had a complaint about this product had a wirelss network issue, or were receiving some type of interferance from one. After running many wireless video cameras/systems in the professional world, I know that video quality will NEVER be the same as a hard-wired camera, unless you want to pay for a microwave news-van. For the price, this product is excellent, and I completely trust the quality of Motorola, and have been using their products professionally as well. Also remember that we're talking about radio waves- the more you get away from line of sight, the more problems you can have. I have a wireless video network over 200 yards from antenna to receiver, and it works perfectly. In my house, a few walls knock that same eficiency down to about 50ft. These things don't shoot through lead, and don't expect them to get much beyond a few layers of drywall, metal and insulation (especially the foil lined type). If you're planning a set-up, it doesn't hurt to call Motorola ahead of time for specs.

I purchased my system ...
By Vee M from U.S.A., CT on 4/3/2007

I purchased my system when Radio Shack was offering a promotion which included free accessories. For the price of the ?Motorola Homesight Wireless Easy Start Kit? you cannot get a better deal. Picture quality is ok. I can make out images and videos of myself and people I know. I've seen worse surveillance cameras shown on Court TV's forensic and Cop programs. I had a few Homesight software issues on my Win2K SP4 system. After the Homesight 2.6.17A (3/13/07) software updated, it appears all issues are resolved. Customer service people are courteous and I do not feel intimidated calling them again if needed. I?m planning on purchasing a Day/Night camera. If anyone is using one please provide feedback. Thanks, V.

By CHRIS S from SCRANTON on 3/17/2007
Pros:
Easy to use, Good features, Good Value, Reliable

Motorola Homesight is the best security camera system for the home! I had my system running in under 10 minutes. The camera range is great and you get really good picture if you buy a piece that will extend the picture. VERY CHEEP WORTH THE PRICE A+++++

Had major trouble, tech support was on it and two day shipped me a new box and software to fix my problems. I love this, esp the remote monitoring, I feel more secure leaving town now that I can check on things...

Pros:
Easy to use, Good features, Good Value

I had this running in under 20 minutes. Camera was in place and captured video/snaps out of the box. Capture quality is "OK". Only downside that I can see is there doesn't appear to be outside cameras avaialble.

By jim k from baltimore on 12/10/2006

could not get the product to recognize the peripherals. tried updating the software which was annoying. no help. tried the "24/7" help--left an unanswered message. would prefer a call in feature rather than leaving the computer on fulltime when away.

This product is a ...
By Jeffrey B from Wendell, MA on 12/3/2006

This product is a NIGHTMARE. I have been trying to get it to work properly for the past 6 hours. I've spoken to Motorola service 8 times to no avail. Sensors don't work, camera (with subscription to the service they don't tell you is necessary to get it to work, for a monthly fee)constantly flickers, making it useless. a really poor product!!!!

Run away from this ...
By Doug M from Raleigh, NC on 11/9/2006

Run away from this product as fast as you can. The biggest can of worms is the S/W for this product isn't "Approved" by Windows. Motorola doesn't want to pay for that distinction so there is no determination that the Motorola S/W won't corrupt your Windows OS. Great thought, huh?? Additionaly, the Wireless Base Stations could never find either the camera or the door motion sensor. Motorola 24/7 customer service is so tired of hearing about these things, they couldn't help and just suggested I return it to Radio Shack - it's only twenty miles one way. Find another product, this does not work.

By Travis M from Jersey City, NJ on 9/30/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good features, Good Value, Reliable

Great product, it was set up in under 15 minutes which is surprising because I am not tech savy. I wish the cameras had greater range, but they have a device for that, so I will just get that. Aside from the all the features, the price is very inexpensive. Why pay hundreds of dollars for less efficient systems? Plus you can see video of your home through your cell phone. I've never seen anything like it before.

By Sanjay MVerified Reviewer from NY on 9/21/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good features, Good Value, Reliable

Took less than 20 minutes to setup. Software is all secured for remote features and wirelss video communication is encrypted. Wirless cameras have certain range limit which is the true for any wirelss gadget in general. Wired cameras are wonderful for areas with inreference. Like the power module that lets me schedule turn on/off my bedroom lamps. Wish to try out other devices like siren or water sensor for my basement. For advanced users macros are powerful. Love the feature of able to get notification, image or video on my cell phone. With remote service signup I am able to get live video on my cell phone and any remote PC. Customer service is wonderful and very quick to respond.

By Jack R from NJ on 9/19/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good features, Good Value, Reliable

Extremely easy to set up, and not bad features for the price. In fact, took me about 15 minutes to set it up from start to finish. Video could be better, but for the price I was impressed. I bought a door sensor and it sends a sms message to my phone whenever its opened. Pretty cool stuff. Would be better if they had an expanded lighting control line.

By E U from USA on 9/15/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good features, Good Value, Reliable

Video quality could be better. range for video could be better but overall I give it an A+ because it is easy to set up and it is very reliable. You would pay thousands to get a similar system from a security company plus a monthly service fee! this system you just set up and you get messages tp ypur email and phone whenever something happens... This system can be compared to systems that are worth $3000+

By Samuel B from New Jersey on 8/24/2006

This product has come a way from the original Xanboo product. However video quality is terrible. If you have any other wireless devices in your home expect very bad interference. Doing some web research I found the $9.95 month service is not secured. I would avoid the service.

By David A from Long Island NY on 7/30/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good features, Good Value, Reliable

I had the original XANBOO product for 3 years This surpasses the old for features and web access of pictures. For the price it really cant be beat. Full remote control of the home with live video feeds via their 9.95 a month service. As for the previous reviews on installtion headaches I had none. I use this at home and at my business for me it beats central station by a longshot. I can see live if its a false alarm or not. I get e mail noticications and pictures to my cell. 10 hours to install?? I think someone is in need of a new PC...I do have WIFI in my office and no problems when set up correctly. I do recomend using wired cameras where possible as with any wireless devices they are subject to interferance by almost anything.

By Walt L from MA on 7/21/2006
Pros:
Good features, Good Value

I sent it back. It a great idea, but I think the cam is at the wrong frquency and acts up if you have a wireless network. I could never get the camera to stay clear all the time it would constantly die. If it worked, I would have kept it, you can add so much to it.

was really easy to setup and now that they have remote service turned on, I can view my home from my Cingular phone - I am hooked.

By Bryan A from MPLS` on 1/3/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good features, Good Value, Reliable

I'm not quite sure what people were talking about, took less than 20 minutes to set up and play, picture looks fine, slight delay to record, and software does not support ssl(problem with some e-mail servers), but it works great.

By Mark H from Florida on 12/29/2005

This unit was pretty easy to setup, however once the wireless camera moved more thatn 20 feet from the receiver, the image went from about webcam-ish to nothing. I would opt for somthing better if possible.

By Don C from Florida on 12/6/2005
Pros:
Easy to use

Bad picture... as if wireless cam is not focused. Directly conflicts with baby monitors, telephones and most channels for Wireless LAN (B/G). Took >10 hrs to set up - requires latest Sun Java JRE and needs a powered USB port (a newer desktop will have it). Motorola tech support unresponsive. Product already being gotten rid of by Motorola! There won't be any software updates, etc. Unit doesn't actually offer remote monitoring. Only one cam records at any given time.
