It works great at times. The picture is very clear; however, there seems to be a lot of interference. The sound is horrible...click, click and static... continuously! I do enjoy being able to see my baby sleep at night without running up and down the stairs.
Love it, but be sure to get the maintenance agreement! We have problems with our unit that are described very accurately in the other published reviews. We use our system (monitor and three cameras) to keep track of our 2 special needs children at night; we use it ALOT. The alarm feature is not very helpful if system is swtiching between multiple cameras. Every time the camera switches, it sets off the alarm. I've resorted to turning off the alarm and getting a motion detector for each room. It would have been nice if the alarm feature worked a little better. Overall, I love the system, but I will be heading to our local Radio Shack for a replacement tomorrow. Our base is broken, the cord plug is showing wear, and the actual monitor no longer works with just the batteries. Thankfully, we got a maintenance agreement. I'm pretty happy about that fact right now!
Great for anyone that needs to keep track of little ones in a big house. Subject to interference in the VERY crowded 2.4Ghz band. IR has limited distance, but its enough in most cases. Still GREAT safety tool. Wish cameras were availble seperatly via Radio Shack.
Worked fine at first, but both the base station and the monitor have had problems with the circuit board. My wife usually removed the monitor from the base station a few times per day and after just a few months, the base station quit working. So gave up on the base station, and just used the handheld monitor part. Then suddenly the plug on it started going bad. Again, my wife was using the plug a few times a day, and batteries at other times. The circuit board design on both the base unit and monitor have a very poor design to keep the connection if plugging and unplugging a few times per day. I re-soldered the board for the monitor plug and do have it going again. Either that or constantly change batteries, and battery charger on the base unit was no good since the base unit did not work at all. Of course this all happened soon after the 90 day warranty was up. I tried to fix the base unit, I can see exactly what is wrong, but can not solder exact enough to fix. Long story short, the leads on the boards where the devices are faulting out serve both as to provide the actual connection, and also serve to hold that part physically onto the board. So when you plug in power, or monitor to base unit, every time you are stressing the leads on the board, and thus after a couple hundred times they give up. Need to have separate mounting of the connector to the board with a bracket or something, and then have no stress on the leads. Very poor design from a reputable company. Radio Shack does not provide a category to rate reliabilty, but would rate value at a 2. If you leave the unit always plugged in, it would last a lot longer, but that defeats the purpose doesn't it? I will say, no big problems on interference like the other reviews though.
Great picture in lit rooms. NIGHTBLIND at 5 feet in darkness. Sound crackled and popped.
This product is a great idea in theory but the static is horrible from only 2 rooms away and the picture is only clear for about 20 feet, after that its all static. I will return this product.
This wireless system met and exceeded my expectations. I was able to use NiMH rechargeable batteries in the handset which are recharged at the base station. The base station is very impressive with a "plug 'n play" approach, piping audio/video to composite RCA outputs. I am able to penetrate drywall and sub-flooring without issue. Video is perfect however audio can "crackle" based on the positioning of the handset. I wish Lorex would have used 900Mhz for the audio and 2.4GHz for the video (which would likely eliminate the annoying audio static). The IR LEDs works great in a pitch-black environment allowing us to see our daughter clearly. Installing batteries in the camera and handset allow it to operate during a power outage (if using the provided DC converter for normal power) or away from the DC converter. When AC is restored the camera will not use the batteries. I like this fail-over approach and it ensures that if I sleep through a power-outage I'll still hear/see the baby. The downside is that the camera operates on the 2.4GHz spectrum which is quite saturated. The 4 channel switch on the camera (and handset) do allow you to select various channels but most choices are saturated and will produce distortion. A microwave oven while in operation will add static and distortion to the video/audio (most microwaves emit signals that fall within the same 2.4GHz frequency band). Additionally the use of 2.4GHz wireless phones or a 802.11 B/G wireless access point will interfere with the signal. The camera can also negatively impact WLAN performance (packet loss, high latency, etc). If you have many devices that operate on the 2.4GHz band you will likely not be happy with this product. In my home we use 5GHz wireless phones (to avoid competition with 802.11 B/G). I have an AP in the basement and an AP (in point to point mode, shooting 150 yards to my mother-in-laws house) in an upstairs bonus room. The camera, which transmits on 2.4GHz (regardless of the channel), would consistently cause packet loss and poor latency on the point-to-point AP in the bonus room (the one in the basement was unaffected). Using foil I was able to shield the AP from the 2.4GHz signal emitted by the camera and avoid interference to the camera caused by the same AP. CH4 ended up being the best channel. When turning on the handset it defaults to CH1 so you must manually use the CH selector switch to select CH4. Overall I highly recommend this product unless you have a vast amount of 2.4GHz devices (or low quality 2.4GHz devices which may scream across the spectrum).

Won't work from three rooms away, a good idea but truly a terrible product.
Great concept and product. Decent image quality on the handheld and on a TV. But problem of static noise present even when only one room away (behind a wall), unplugging my current 2.4GHz home phone helps but does not remove all the static, I will return the product
Beaware this video will not work with wireless 2.4G phone system in your home. Otherwise a good unit and value.
This is a fine product. I did not experience any of the problems others had posted. It is very handy. You will definitely want to populate it with rechargeable batteries though, because it tends to eat the others. The cradle is ingenious. Place it in the cradle to charge and to pipe the video to a monitor. Very nice! The only 2 improvements I can think of is that the video screen is a bit tiny, so don't expect to pick out tiny details from the portable monitor. The other is that it would be nice to be able to pan ilt the camera, but by adding additional cameras (up to 4 can be monitored), this is somewhat mitigated. One last thing - I did not use it much to do infrared monitoring at night, but what little experience I did have indicated that the infrared lights are not very powerful and will not 'light up' objects far away in the room. However, objects relatively close will show up at night. Overall, I think it is a fine product. Transmitted through 3 floors and outside to at least 80 feet for me with negligible interference.
This woudl be a very easy system to use if the plugs were easier to plug in to on the base. I had static on the screen due to a bad plug on the base. i will be returning the base today to get a new base.
Great! Easy to use and operate. Can't miss at 149.99!
very static picture, cannot get sound do to static & jumping of picture frame, otherwise its a great concept, i wish it could have been a stronger signal
Absolutley disappointing. Static on the monitor and speaker when within 3 feet of camera. Static got worse as I walked away and picture disappeared by the time I was 20 feet away. I am returning immediately.
