I am baffled by the negative comments about this product. I have had one in the kitchen and one in the living room for 4 years, running about 8-12 hours a day on the average. I find that they effectively reduce the volume of dust and virtually eliminate cooking odors in those and adjoining rooms. Granted, normally I do not fry or broil, in which case an exhaust fan would be preferable anyway. My experience has been that the most important guideline is *maintenance* as per the instructions that come with the units. I rinse the screen and vacuum the filter and unit weekly along with other chores and have honestly never witnessed any accumulation of soot on the walls.

Warning-do not buy! Black SOOT!

We had 3 of these units in our house. Yes, they do clean the air BUT they leave a fine layer of black sooty material that DOES NOT CLEAN off. Walls in my house were ruined, flooring stained, other things blackened and uncleanable. I was not even able to get the black soot off the unit itself.

I do not know if it is the "IFD Technology" or the built-in ionizer that is causing this serious, most likely dangerous output all over the house.

Beware of this unit, as I have not found a way to clean the black sooty residue from the house or the unit.

I have 2 one I have had for over 5 yrs it is just now slowing down, the other I have had for about 3 years and it is still going strong, I have really used them hard, and I have allergies, the have made it better at home, even in the wood shop where it can get pretty bad,it clears the air and cleans up easily. I plan to by an other when my first one quits; I rate them a very good value!

Broke after six months

Worked great for 6 months then went south. [...] By the time I went back the cost of the repairs were more than the unit cost, which is now [$]. Going to buy a new one.

By john z from brooklyn on 5/25/2007

I used to wake up suffering from running nose and sneezing for about 2 hours every morning but since I bought 3 units of this (taller) Model#63-1532 one for each room, my mornings are now allergy free. I have it running for couple weeks now about 4-6 hours per day. Works Great and Great Value!!!

Pros:
Easy to use, Good purity, Reliable

At first I did not think this product did anything until I came home one day from someone's house that did not have a airfilter. That's when I knew I purchased a decent product. Maybe not the best, but it works decently.

By David d from Algonac MI. on 3/10/2007
Pros:
Easy to use, Good purity, Good Value, Reliable

This is a very sound unit, I think it does an outstanding job. I own two of them and thank they are an outstanding value. I use one in my server room, has 5 servers, and has cut my downtime due to system cleaning by half. Servers get really hot, especially if they are filled with dust. I run that one on high 24/7 and runs outstanding. Secondly I have one in my room which I run 24/7 on low and is very silent. Although a HEPA would be a bit better for the servers this is much cheaper to run and maintain. Uses very little electricity. You could imagine what the servers draw. I would tell my friends about this air purifier.

Well, okay, this is my third review of this product over about one and a half years. I had another unit go out...but KAZ replaced it with a new one even without a receipt...in fact they gave me one of their more advanced models. What everyone needs to know is this: any unit that ionizes is going to put thick soot all over your house. These units don't have the power to really do a whole living room on their own (I used 2 in the living room now and that seems to help). Also, it does not matter who the manufacturer or the model, if that unit can't recirculate ALL the air in the room every 20 mins or so, you will have that soot everywhere...on your books, on your coffee table, behind your computer, etc. And...the worst thing is...if you have any room painted brightly, it will permanently stain that paint. I know because I lived in my place for 4 years without one of these things. Within a year, my place was dingy and yellow. I repainted everything, and a year later...same thing. It's the ions attaching to your surfaces that causes this. It's not a bad unit to own for what it does (good on odors, and collects a lot of dust), but I'm not gonna paint my entire living room and kitchen every year. So, I've lived all these years without an ionizer air purifier, I think I'm gonna get rid of it and get a HEPA. Sure, HEPA's are noisier and very expensive to operate, but they do get the job done of filtering the air...only thing is you need a BBBIIIGGGG one to really clean a room which means it will make appreciable noise. Good luck to all, but overall, I'm gonna sign off with a low to medium rating of the product no matter how good the cust. service is from the manufacturer.

By Luke G from Ohio on 11/6/2006

I am on my third unit and am having to send it in because it has stopped cleaning the air. I question the IFD technology. So far it semms to be junk. It only pick up dog hair in the pre filter and blows the rest of the dirt in the air.

By Witchhawk GVerified Reviewer from Maryland on 10/23/2006

I bought one of these last year just prior to having surgery, to make my room more comfortable during the recovery. What a mistake! This thing was horrendously noisy for the week or two that it actually worked! The biggest problem was that by the time I was well enough to return the thing it was out of warranty - unless I packed it up and shipped it back. Definately a waste of money - unless you're looking for a noise maker that only works for a few weeks. NOTE - I bought the smaller unit shortly after this fiasco and it has worked GREAT. Not the quietest thing around but it has been running 24/7 for over a year and it picks up quite a bit of garbage from the air. Definately go for the smaller unit, this one is junk.

By J A from Florida on 8/31/2006

I too have had to replace these units! The units I originally purchased worked Just like the Ionic Breezes..sort of. They both died within 4 months of use. They replaced them under warranty with these new filter types, but they too are now not working well and are loud...very loud at the lowest setting. To top it off when I called to get them to do something about these two repleacment units they told me they already helped me once and thats it. I'm on my own. WARNING TO ALL DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE. I had to replace both units with a true hepa filter system...what a difference. RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM THIS PR

By Bryan L from Los Angeles, CA on 8/18/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good Value

I did a review on these products when I first bought them 10 months ago. They've worked great, however, I notice recently that there is a ticking sound in the fan cage - again. I had this happen once before within 30 days of purchasing them, and had to replace both units. I called the manufacturer, and they agreed to replace the unit with a brand new one at no cost. It is an aggravation to have to box up the unit and return it, but I have largely been happy with it. Thankfully, the manufacturer stands behind their product.

By Greg S from Los Angeles, Ca on 4/11/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Reliable

I've had 2 of these machines for six months now. They seem to work pretty well. I live in So. California where the temps are mild year round. I have my windows open 24 x 7, 365 days a year, so, there is a constant introduction of outside air. Therefore, I have to clean up the filters pretty often. I can say that the machine does take up a lot of dust and airborne particulates. I use canned air to clean up the larger filters and that seems to work well. Otherwise, no problems. I would recommend without reservation.

By bryan l from los angeles, ca on 1/17/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Reliable

It is a decent machine relative to the price. I bought two, and within a week, had to bring them both back due to a ticking noise in the fan cage. Since replacing those, I have not had any problems with the devices at all (3 months now). They are a bit loud on the medium and high speed settings, but nevertheless, you have to realize that they do move an appreciable amount of air. Once again, it is overall a decent product. Anything better would cost upwards of $600.

Pros:
Easy to use, Good purity, Good Value, Reliable

I had bought an Ionic Breeze air purifier and used it for 2 weeks. When I went to clean the collection grids, there was hardly anything on them. There seemed to be little air flow. I returned it and bought this model from Radio Shack and couldn't be happier with it. It collects a lot of dust and other contaminants, and the fan is very quiet. I have a dog and I have noticed that the air smells cleaner when I enter my house. I also have to dust less frequently. I highly recommend this product.

The purifier was so loud I couldn't sleep--it made a strange ticking sound. When I returned it at the store, I noticed the store model made the same sound. Thought I was getting something like an Ionic Breeze. 8(
