I've had this unit two months, up and running about 2 weeks. Currently I'm waiting for it to be returned from ACER for the second time. Both times the WIFI died after a system restore. The first when I tried to restore after installing the VISTA upgrade disk, the second after the unit locked up when I ran program uninstall on NORTON.
NEGATIVES:
1) VISTA
2) Needs at least 1mg of memory to work
3) With 2 system partitions of 32mg usable memory, the hard drive is barely adaquite.
4) PCcard eject button is always out (going to get broke), real pain
5) Number and position of USB ports
6) With 1.5gb memory and in classic mode this unit still takes FOREVER to boot.
7) I'm a little torn over how to rate the ACER phone techs. Always friendly, but seem limited to stock responses.
POSITIVES:
Acer repair
Bought this primarily because it gets toted around a lot and I didn't want to pay $1000 for a laptop that might get dropped or something. Max out the RAM (2g) and this is actually a pretty decent little laptop for internet and music. If you're planning on gaming with it, forget it. Also, a quick search on the net of the model number reveals that it's fairly common for the onboard sound card to fail, which in my case, it did. [...] Overall, you get a little bit more than you pay for. It's a good deal.
Fan has broken twice in a year and a half, warranty still good though, thankfully! I love my Acer, it never has the 'blue screen of death' and is faster than my desktop computer. Battery life is poor and it's hard to watch video clips on it because it takes awhile to load. Perfect starter computer, it's my first and I adore it. I just wish there a place for xD chips, and a built in webcam.
What a great overall gerneral use machine! I am very pleased.
great starter computer! i definetly recommend buying at least 512mb of ram for it as soon as you buy it cause it helps alot! i ran it with and without the ram and the difference shows. good bang for your buck! thanks [...]!
well the 512ram is good if you want it to go faster but i recomend going all out and getting 1gb of ram well worth it vista needs at least 1gb of ram thats why its so slow plus more ram more graphics thats the way it is set up plenty fast for world of warcraft and other mid sized games if you upgrade the ram if you dont upgrade good for word prossesing videos and light buisness work like presentations battery life is somewhat good lasts for about 1 and a half about so if you have a long presentation or long travel get eather more bateries or car chargers well worth the money
It is a very good price for this computer because it is a little slow but besides that I like it a lot.
I purchased this for [$] bucks thinking "what junk." But, after the removal of some software, a 256mb RAM upgrade and extra battery (only about [$] for both), we have a fast, powerful and reliable Mainstream notebook. It weighs a little over 5 pounds (like 5lb 2oz, not a big deal at all) The screen is gorgeous, one of the best Ive seen on a laptop under 600.00!I gave it 4 stars because of the factory config. So, in conclusions, If you want a solid, avid and inexpensive performer, the Acer Aspire 3680 is the one for the team
Great computer but slow. You definitly need to purchase atleast 512mb of RAM before you start it up. If not your connection will be very slow.
We've used it about 3 weeks. It's the cheapest notebook you can buy, and it's really pretty decent. Bought from a local store that starts with Micro and ends with center for four hunna no rebates. Added another 1GB right away, and cleaned off the crapware, stopped some autostart programs, set to performance, and it works fine.
Wireless works great. Display is good. Noticeably smaller and lighter than 15.4" models with not much less screen. Went to 2GB later, and no real difference from 1.5GB, but it's so cheap 70 total for the 2GB, why not. Even then, the machine is not fast, but not bad either. For web, email and word processing, it's fine.
I wouldn't send a kid to college with this machine, but for a known, defined task it's perfect.
The 80GB comes with a recovery partition and C and D drive partitions of 30GB each.

By adding the 512 mb Ram [$] [...] the laptop "Flies". Windows Vista automatically picked up on my High-Speed DSL modem with NO complicated and time-consuming "setup" and I was on the internet with one click instantaneously!! The price can't be beat.

It is a great notebook for the price you can't beat it. You will need to just add a stick of ram (512mb) to increase performance. But overall it is great. [...]

This computer is very affordable but the ACER brand is very unreliable. The computer has the minimum RAM required to run Microsoft Vista and therefore it runs very slow. The processor that it uses is not fast either. If you want good performance on a computer try to get one with at least 1GB of RAM and Pentium Dual Core processor!

This is the lowest price i ever seen for a brand new laptop. I feel this is a good investment for me. I don't have any problems with it.

Very slow start up with computer. Cannot mulitask. Great starter computer for your preteen kids. Not a road machine. Not a computer for college students.
