Bought this portable player Dec 06. Worked great at home and in the car for 18 months; now get a 'No Disc" message for most discs that play in other DVD players.

Rec'd as Christman '06 present and only used occasionally throughout year. Stopped working all of a sudden in Dec '07. No reason why stopped working, laser not reading discs, well taken care of by me.
Bought this portable DVD player 7 months ago. We used it on 3 trips and occasionally at home -- perhaps 80 hours of use. It is now difficult to use. It recognizes some disks but not others. For these rejected disks, all of which the machine used to play, the screen now shows the message "No Disk." Yet I can play these disks in another portable player. They are used and slightly damaged disks. It appears something happened to the Accurian so it is less able to play slightly damaged disks than it used to.
Screen went black after 8 months. Not happy with this product. I take very good care of my things and was surprised when it stopped working:(

The only complaint I have is the battery only lasts two hours. I wished they'd sell external batteries as well. Sometimes I am not in a car or have access to an outlet. Otherwise, it is a good buy. [...]
We baught this and after a couple months it skipped and would freeze up and then the screen turned black.[...]If I was you I'd stay away from this product.
We bought 2 of these for use in the car on road trips. Worked great for about 3 months, then the screen went black. Could still hear the movie playing but could not see anything. Total viewing life seems to be about 20 hours.

Bought in Jan 2007, only used once or twice per month. at 6 months it started skipping. less than one year old it freezes/skips to point of being unusable. warranty = 90 days labor, 1 year parts. Makes repair after 90 days uneconomical

The Battery worked fine for about 3 weeks, now it will not re-charge. Works well with car adapter only but even that does not re-charge the battery. Volume is very low even when turned up all the way, must use head phones if in noisy area (passing traffic, construction work etc)

We bought this in June and the first unit lasted until the end of July. The second unit lasted from August to September. I keep getting the NO DISC message even after trying multiple discs and cleaning the lens with isopropyl alcohol. I am currently shopping for a new unit.
Very nice dvd player for the first six months, although the picture would freeze without reason. After six months, loud static heard instead of dvd sound in one of the ear buds (problem is not due to headphones, as I've tried two different ones).

I really have a problem with the failure, just outside the warranty [...]. I'm an adult, purchased study purposes. Used about one to two hours, twice a week. Now I have to purchase another...but not this one!
I bought this for my nephew and the only complaint is that it was not loud enough. Well a good pair of [...] headphones solved that. I also bought a headphone splitter as well as a second set of headphones incase someone else wants to watch it with him. Overall this is a great product. I bought one 10" screen Accurian and it was very nice overall, but after more than six hours of battery charge when I put my picture, It ran down in
less than 30 mins.
I returned it to the store at the third day.
I received this player as a gift for Father's Day.
the first time I used it I had no problems with the unit it functioned well and I was very happy. I stored the unit away in a closet on it own shelf. The second time I attempted to use the player the picture was very dark; and the brightnes thumb wheel is not working.
I bought my Accurian dvd portable player at Radioshack last 2006 thanksgiving sale the price is great but the player's perfomance is not. After playing for 5mins. about 97% of the screen is covered with black shade although i can still hear and see the 3% unshaded part of the screen playing my movie.

It is the best portable DVD player I have had. I've had other brands but none come close to the APD-3955 in overall satisfaction... ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE!
For the price I paid it is one of my best gadgets ever!!! Easy to use, battery does not complain after 3 hours of continuous use.
I bought Sony DVP-FSX810 8", I end up had to return it because the picture quality was real bad. This is much better than Sony!
Santa Claus brought this neat little portable DVD player to my 3 year old daughter. Now we don't leave home without it. The picture is clear as a bell and the DVDs never skip. We love it. Great price too, according to Santa!
This is a high quality unit for a low price. Sharp wide screen picture with great detail, sound a bit low but good stereo sound, also has a great remote (toggle zoom angle, subtitles!) a/v out, and a long life rechargeable battery. Inclueds car plug and a/c adapter. No headphones (keeps cost down). Just plug yours in and you're good to go. Highly recommended. Great !!!
***very very nice....i received this as a christmas present from my parents for the price of the product im very pleased i also enjoy that the remote control actually works unlike some other cheaply made products well BRAVO!!! very nice and maybe you could teach the other companies to fix the remote problem because it tends to run from store to store and not last as long and have the same amazing qualitites as the Accurian does******
For the money, I'm quite pleased with the player. Crispy picture - and being able to easily format it to different sizes is great! However, the sound volume is low - even turned all the way up. (Try earbuds for the best solution.)Also, you MUST use the remote for almost all functions. Overall though, a solidly built product I'd buy again, at the price!
Picture is great, sound is not. Also, with only one headphone jack, you can't solve the sound issue if you have more than one person watching.
Good: Price is great. Picture is good. Built in rechargeable battery is a nice feature - no worries about losing it or the 'connectors' breaking. Not so good: Sound is not great, as preveiously mentioned (what is a boosteroo?), especially with any kind of background noise. Also, this thing pretty much only operates with the use of the remote (like if you want to speed forward or back). Or to do anything other than hit "play" on the DVD. It is frustrating to me that I have to have the remote with me any time I want to watch. (And big time afraid I will lose it, especially since they built in the battery!) Overall it is a good product and I do recommend to buy, but don't get excited that this is an outstanding product.
my son got this for his 8th b-day,and it runs great,keeps a good charge,and has a awsome picture.
Excellent portable DVD player. Previous review noted lack of volume in aircraft. All you need is a "Boosteroo" amplifier. Use if for Ipods and other small portalbe divices. Together with the Accurian up to three people can watch and get quality sound.
Only one downside if you want to fly with this: this thing isn't loud enough for airplane travel for most DVDs. Of the ten DVDs I tried, only one (curb your enthusiasm) was loud enough that I didn't need subtitles, and I have perfect hearing. Too bad, because in every other respect its great: perfect picture, light, and built-in battery is a major plus. If only it were louder. It is loud enough if you just want it for car or home use though.
Im very impressed with this dvd player, i recommend it to somebody who wants to use it on the road, it has a sharp,focused, crisp picture its worth your money
I wanted something with great sound and picture. The one I currently have has terrible sound. This unit so far is outstanding and compact!
I purchased another brand at a discount store, and had to take it back because of bad sound. Was in Radioshack for something else and bought this unit. I am very impressed, easy to use, crisp picture, great sound. Very nice.

I am so impress! for the price, the quality is Great!! the picture is sharp and focused... you can not beat the value or quality..
