Works very well in a large house with lots of electronic wiring as well as a lot of shielding in the walls. Other intercoms were too static ridden to work. BUT you can't buy just one additional station to expand the set.

I bought a pair to talk back and forth in my duplex. They work great.

The only complaint I have is the loud beep that sounds when I press the talk button. I can't find a way to disable it, and it's loud enough to be annoying during quiet times (such as when people are sleeping.)

NOT compatible with older 900 MHz system

Cons:
NOT backwords Compatible
Bottom Line:

We've used the older 43-3102 system for 4 years and been very happy with it. But needed couple more units. Bad news: NOT compatible with our older system.[...]. Good news: still a great system if you buy all new units.

NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 43-3102 'THO CLAIMED
By Clayton from Heber Springs, AR on 8/29/2008

RS claims compatibility with older 43-3102. Both are great systems, but don't believe the compatibility claim.

Unit has five dip switches located in battery compartment. They are labled Sub Tone and CH. All were in down position on the four units I purchased. I expected to find information on the purpose of these dip switches and their settings in the User Guide. They are not mentioned, but a photo of them is included with the section on recharging batteries. In the photo the dip switches are located next to the battery recharge switch.

There is a decal inside the battery compartment cover which shows switches 1,2,3 are for setting eight possible subtones. The decal shows switches 4 & 5 are for selecting the channel, four combinations (four channels) are possible.

Haven't used the product yet. Was in the process of installing when I encountered this problem. Yes, I am probably one of the few who actually reads the used guides before installing. Unit is advertised as four channel, but no mention is made in User Guide or web site on how to select channels.

I bought a pair of these in 2001... they still work great, with no flaws whatsoever. I recommend the RadioShack 900mhz intercoms to many of my friends looking for an inexpensive, long-lasting, durable little wireless intercom. The only drawback is the new models aren't compatible w/ the old ones. This is it's only design flaw. Overall, I can't think of a single intercom system that would have given us as much service over the years, and for such an inexpensive price too. Anyone tired of the hissing and crackling of other intercoms should really try these out. Best intercom system around, bar none.

We purchased 4 of these units for our home to be powered by the batteries. We were very happy with the product initially, small, easy to use and good sound quality but Radio Shack failed to mention the batteries die in 7 - 8 days. This unit is useless as a battery powered unit.

We have 6 of the 900MHZ intercom systems purchased two years ago which work great. I recently purchased 2 of the new 900MHZ intercom systems. They look exactly the same (except for the VOX switch), and are set on the same channel and sub-channel, yet THEY DON'T WORK WITH THE OLD SYSTEMS! They talk to each other well, but the old systems don't pick up the signal. They seem to be on a different frequency as the old ones. I have tried all channels and subchannels and can't get it to work. Since you can't buy the old systems anymore, which are only two years old, I am very upset that I can not now expand my current system. It is distressing to spend all that money on a system, and suddenly it seems outdated.

Took it out of the box pluged it in and it worked! Sound quality is great and the voice activation feature is great in case someone just calls out, without being able to push the talk button.

[...]Read the instructions, took them out of the box, plugged them in and they worked perfectly the minute we turned them on. No static or interference. Didn't have to adjust settings at all. Best feature I didn't know about was the units will charge rechargeable batteries (if you use them wirelessly) or if the power is out. We're buying another set for the rest of the house.

I used these intercom in my retail store so my employees can call me if I am in my office, or another employee in the break area, and so we can call one of them to the back if we need assistance. I have never had a failure with one of these units. I have rechargable batteries in them to use as a back up in case of a circuit breaker trips or a power failure.

Simple Set Up!
By Bill the Runner from Philadelphia, PA on 11/14/2007
Pros:
Durable, Lightweight, Long Lasting, Quiet, Simple Use
Cons:
Unstable
Best Uses:
House
Primary use:
Personal
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have been using this product for about 10 years. Very reliable, sound quality is excellent, and is very convienent. No wires to run from room to room! I have purchased addition sets that work very well with the older sets. Saves a lot of steps in the home. We use the "Call" button for the dinner bell.
There is one slight flaw though, every once-in-a-while, when one pushes the talk button, it starts a very loud siren effect emitting from all the units. We have to run around the house to turn off each unit, but once that's done, they can all be turned on again (they are approx 10 years old).
We use this unit all the time and would find it difficult to function in our home without them.
I'd like to see the manufacturer add some accessories, like an outdoor (weatherproof) unit.

I have purchased them for house warming gifts.

Bought two sets. Set up four stations in a large house, two upstairs bedrooms, one downstairs bedroom and one in the kitchen. All four stations work perfectly, first try, out of the box. Took about five minutes to set up the entire system - plug and play! Great tone quality, no noise. I am a satisfied customer.
