Great intercom, if you like hums
By Fred Powledge from Southern Maryland, USA on 3/19/2009
Cons:
Noisy
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

I have just one comment, but it is an overriding one: From the moment I plugged the units in, both were besieged with constant, unremovable hums. It was impossible to conduct a conversation, even a very short one, on these intercoms. I am returning them tomorrow. It may be that the interference came from proximity to transformers or fluorescent lighting, but what home or office isn't jammed full of both those these days?

Bottom Line:

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

I had these setup in 3 different rooms, two of which were only 30 feet apart. The third room was a floor above. The two that were 30 feet apart worked well enough, but the third could only send, not receive. I switched everything around to see if one was DOA, but the all worked when near each other. Its a pretty poor radio when the signal can't go through one floor.

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

I owned the previous version of this intercom for over 10 years. They worked really great. It was time to replace them and I also found that since I now have young children I needed more than three units. I purchased 2 boxes which gave me 6 units and I found that as long as I place all 6 on the same channel they worked great together. I miss the lightweight cord that was on the previous model. The cord on this model is just too heavy. That is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

I needed a way to communicate between the main house, my off-prem workshop and a Granny Flat on my property. The solution was a wireless intercom, and these particular units came packaged ready to "Plug-&-Play". Each of the units is hardwired to a plug (No external transformer to mess with) and all of the units are set to the same frequency, although you can manually change that.
I read almost all of the reviews before I purchased these because the cost seemed too low, and I did NOT want a toy. Although most of the reviews were fair to bad, I bought them anyway and here is what I found:
1. Florescent lights cause them to be noisy. Do not put them directly beneith a floescent light (including the new "energy-efficient" lights). If you experience noise, MOVE the unit(s).
2. ALL units MUST be on the same frequency (A,B or C).
3. The units do not discriminate sounds...ALL sounds in the room are transmitted when the button is pushed including the dishwasher, clothes dryer, barking dogs, table saw etc...
My opinion is you can't beat these units for the price.

For [$], its OK, but not great
By Old IrishmanVerified Purchaser from Geneva, NY on 2/16/2009
Pros:
Easy Installation, Inexpensive, Portability of Units
Cons:
AC buzz, Noisy
Best Uses:
Garage to house
Describe Yourself:
Practical, Tech Savvy
Primary use:
Personal
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

So what did I expect for [$]. Despite reading other negative comments, I bought this because it comes with three stations and is easy to install -- just plug it in. Original intended use was as a monitor, but the AC buzz on all channels nixed that idea -- would wake up a baby or older person if you tried to use it to talk. So now it will be used to communicate between my workshop, the kitchen, and other locations in the house (like the attic library). If it's just to ask "are you up there" or let someone know you're going out, I can put up with the buzzing. For [$] its okay.

I have three units, one in the den one in the kitchen, and one in the work shop. from the den to the kitchen is about 15 feet from the den to the shop is about 25 feet. none of the three will communicate with the other unless you put them less than 4 feet apart. I have pluged them into several other plugs thinking that would work. needless to say it did not change.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY SOMETHING ELSE. DO NOT USE THIS RADIOSHACK INTERCOM.

This is a great product very clear sound. It makes our lifes so much easier. I live with a son a daughter a grandson and my wife. We live in a decent sized house and its so easy to talk to some one else just push a button and your connected the only thing i would have to say that i did not like about it was that the kids love it too. it's funny to listen to there conversations! it is a very good product for a low price we bought 5 sets which is 15 units one for each room even the garage and whats so handy is if the kids are playing they go to channel C and the regular ones are on A it's so convient i love them and recomend them to every one. Once at a freind of mines house she yelled up to her husband and he did not hear her so she ended up going to get him and i said. Cathy why dont you just get these and what do you know she got them! HOPE THIS HELPED!

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

I own a large country house with 3 suites for family visitors, their children and guests. Additionally, we have a separate building being used as our Studio, about 150 yards down the driveway. I needed to link these widely separated spaces and used my original Radioshack intercoms purchased 24 years ago [yes, they still work!] but needed additional units for the additional spaces. Surprisingly, these new units even work with the old units on channel A. So my ancient intercoms continue in service. For any of the guest room/nurseries we can switch to a different channel B or C to monitor sleeping children. They even clearly communicate with the studio in a separate building, but on the same electrical service.
Logically, if possible, the intercoms should not be on the same circuit breaker as refrigerators or small appliances [or other electrical devices with intelligent circuits that sample electricity] - they could introduce static and noise. So it takes a little experimentation to find the best wall plugs for the clearest signal. Once done, these FM units are terrific and saved a small ransom by not having to professionally install many built-in units in the house with powerful wireless repeaters to reach the studio. Highly recommended.

I have had great luck with these. I have one in my house so that my Grandmother who lives next door can get hold of me. She is not able to use the phone and is bed bound. This was the best device that we have found that allows her to communicate with someone in her house or in my house when she needs something. We have never had a problem. This are great and easy to use. I would recommend them to anyone that has a hearing impaired or disabled person in their house because nothing could be easier for them than pushing a button.

I have a split story home and have a slight hearing impairment. This item has been an asset in my home. I do not have to yell to get my daughter's attention nor does she. The tone grabs my attention, allowing me to get to the device to respond if necessary. I can set the tone and volume as loud as I need it and my daughter, who can hear perfectly fine, can set it at a lower volume. I would suggest this for any families as well as single moms/dads.

I had one set of the older model of these but it wore out so I bought this model, but I am far from satisfied with it. I have one in my daughter's room, one in the living room, and one in the home office. The one in my daughter's room is unrealiable at best and noisy and usable at worst. It tends to emit a buzzing sound that makes it difficult to use. This set is not as good as the older model that it replaced.

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

A lot of complaints appear to address the same issue - It works between some rooms and not between other rooms. Here's why: Each house has two circuits of AC. 240 volts come into the house and is split into two "busses" of 120 volts each. If the two rooms you want to monitor from are on the same buss, then it will work, and if one is on one buss and the other one on the other buss, it won't work. Not the unit's problem, but a problem nontheless of all these types of units. If you are lucky it will work for you, and if not, try an extension cord from one of the rooms that it does work to/from (if convenient). For some reason few of the manufacturers of these units tell you this information in the user manual.

Well, we were unlucky on this product and it just didn't work at all in our house. I read all the comments and it seems that I'm not alone to have experienced the same problem, but a lot of people were happy, so I hoped it would work for us. It just doesn't do anything, on some channels, some areas, it worked okay, but not for where we truly needed it, that is the bedrooms, upstairs. I don't understand why it would work great in some homes and not some others??? I tried different outlets, different channels, different areas, but it's ridiculous, it should work everywhere and not with me standing on top of the counter with one arm in the air only!!!! I'm not sure if the product is deffective or just not compatible with my house wirering??? Our home is 4 years old.

Not at all complicated, just plug it in, set the channel and you are done.

I rarely give anything 5 stars rating. But this product deserves it.

Clear voice quality, ergonomic design (e.g large talk button) and simple operation are all here.

Two things that make it very reliable:
1. Works of 110V means you never have to worry about depleted batteries.
2. Uses household electric wiring for audio transmission means clear qulaity in every room.

I talked in one out to the garage and could hear the response in another one not the one I was taking in.

I have one in the kitchen and one in the den and the other in his building. Needless to say, the building is his oaisis and he wasn't too thrilled with the intercom, but now likes it better.
I am getting this for my dad for Christmas, he has a barn and several detached buildings.
The sales person told me that it would work in any outside building as long as they had the same power source.

Good intentions, but having problems getting all 3 units to send/receive signals depending on where I plug them in. For example you could hear 1 person talking from a base but they wouldn't be able to hear the other person's response but if I plugged it in somewhere else it worked fine. I returned once to see if the item was defective, but that one seemed to be already opened...maybe refurbished. I am going to try 1 more time before just buying a telephone with an intercom. Kind of disappointed. I also noticed the affect on touch lamps.

Currently we only have one set..3 bases! *We bought them but do not use them very rarely! I guess they are always there if we need them but for now we just forget about them and stay on the wall or furniture! When we used them mostly(the first 2-3 months, if that, after purchased), we really didn't see any hear any signs of buzzing and we knew it was typical that a sensitivity touch lamp would show signs of signal interference. Thanks for the most part Radio Shack, and hopefully we will begin using it again! Thank you!

On average, this is a good item. However, the literature said you can add additional units as you require them, but did not tell you that you must purchase an additional three units. They are not sold individually. This was indeed misleading as I only require one more station.

Pros:
Easy to use

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

We bought this to monitor my 98yr old grandmother as she sleeps. When any of our dimmer lights are turned on, there is a noticable and annoying buzz/hum emitted from the i-com that is listening to a broadcast unit. (Makes it hard to talk or listen to radio/TV).

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

I purchased this unit for communications between my home and shop. Couldn't hear anything except a buzz. The building is all metal so an antenna would probably make the system work. I had the shop wired with extra cabling for the good old hard wire units-but no one makes them anymore.

I bought the system to communicate with my son'r room in the basement. I was pleasently surprized how these units have increased the communication with out yelling. Some interference with touch sensitive lights though. Good buy for the multi level, multi kid family.

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

Have multi level house and three boys on one level or another. Announcing dinnertime, bedtime or time to do chores was always a shouting match. Since getting these intercoms life is soooo much more pleasant and quieter! Will be getting second set of three to put on garage, master bedroom and living room. No more shouting! What a joy! Reception and clarity seem to be A-OK too!

Comments about RadioShack Advanced 3-Station/3-Channel FM Wireless Intercom:

We've used this system for about 3 months and have no major complaints. It is very easy to install, just plug it in. I've only observed one issue... we have some touch-sensitive lamps. When you depress the Talk button, the lamps will turn on. I've observed NO interference with our wireless phones or internet. If you have frequent 'shouting conversations' in your house, then buy this system. It makes all the difference.
