Overall this unit is pretty good. The motion detection feature seems to work fairly well. I would recommend this unit but only if you're looking for motion detection functionality. (Any camera will work with the motion detection feature). This feature is "built-in" the unit itself. It is lacking in some areas: (1)Each time the unit is powered down, the settings have to be reentered. This is a pain if you have it in a concealed location. (It would be better if the settings were saved to the SD card), (2)Video quality isn't that great (It would be great to record MPEG-2 or MPEG-4), (3)Larger capacity SD card support.

I am impressed with this product for the price. It can easily be hidden in your home/business, has decent reception range and is easy to use. I didnt have a Swan camera to go with it so I used just a basic 2.4gz wireless camera that I had. The device has 2 recording options. 1: Pressing the record button and it will record for 10 seconds then stop. 2: Turn on the motion detection button and allow it to do all of the work by itself. I didnt have a Swan camera that had a motion sensor in it, so I used a regular wireless 2.4gz camera and easily hooked it up to a protable Lowes' sensor light sensor which screwed right into my outdoor porch light. Whenever someone walks up to it, the sensor detects the motion and sends some signal right to the recorder. This took 2 minutes to hook up. Very easy to use and I would suggest it.

I had a major problem with my dog who was creating havoc in my house when i was leaving and going to work, i'd come back to my house and it would be a mess! i was wondering what exactly was happening whilst i was at work. So i set up the RedAlert to monitor different rooms of the house and record what the dog was doing, (e.g chewing the couch up.) The RedAlert did a fantastic job and is perfect for this purpose! I caught my dog in action and was able to fix the problem eventually with time.
Highly recommend the RedAlert for keeping an eye on mischievous pets when you can't be around to monitor what exactly it is they are doing!

The motion detection works well in daylight but begins to be less reliable at night. If you want accurate motion detection at night you will need to have the area well lit with a flood light. The sensitivity setting can be frustrating. You can only change the setting in increments of two. At setting one it is too sensitive at night. At setting three its not sensitive enough. Getting a good flood light should resolve this problem though. Good buy for the money.
