I saw this Radio Shack compact color security camera with night vision on sale in one of the area Radio Shack stores, and thought it might be just the thing for a project I had in mind. It boasted color viewing during the day, black and white viewing at night, and a microphone so that you can hear what is going on.Unfortunately, I have been through two of these cameras before I got one that worked. The first one was completely dead, and the second one would produce a picture that slowly turned into a completely white image as the camera warmed up.Setup is extremely easy and almost everything you need is in the box. All I had to do was mount it to the wall with the supplied screws, plug in the cables, hang up the cables and connect it to my digital video recorder.[...] the third one definitely works as it should. However, those looking to buy this camera for its night vision capabilities will be disappointed. This camera really doesn't see much of anything at night, and even when it does, there is only a small circle out of the entire field of view that can be seen.During the day, or with some lighting in the room, things are a lot better. The color and picture quality in a moderately sunlit room are more than good enough. In the dark, a forty watt light bulb helps immensely and lets you see a lot, although the picture does become grainier. You can see an example of a still shot I took during the day and an inset of how the camera performs at night, with the forty watt light bulb helping it.Finally, this camera is not weatherproof. If you need a camera that can go outdoors, you'll have to look elsewhere or put this one in a weather tight enclosure.Bottom line: If you need an inexpensive camera that will be recording in a reasonably well lit indoor area, you could do a lot worse. And the price is hard to beat. I would recommend at least giving it a try.

This camera fits my needs. I wanted something affordable with reasonable reliability. It doesn't have to be of military quality, I'm not protecting Fort Knox or the White House, just the front of my driveway. The security companies I called wanted $400 to $2400 just for one camera, a dvr and installation!! I'm not Donald Trump either so therefore, I needed something affordable. Thanks Radio Shack for saving me at least $340!!

I think it is rediculous that the box says "clear pictures, even in the dark" and that is not the case at all.

i use it for my buisness and it's ok. only mine looks the same but has a sensor bar at the bottom and built in intercom. the sensor is so it automaitcally records when it picks up movement so you don't have to waste tape or dvd. i recomend the one with the sensor bar and its only 20 bucks more. and its also by radioshack. anyway its not good at night unless you have a light that covers the area. i have a security light so it works well. installing it is kinda a pain due to the ammount of holes i had to drill into the wall to get it to the monitor on the other side of my office.its best for persional use. and once you connect the cables together you don't want to take them off. the wires inside the cables get messed up when you disconnect the wire and reconnect it. otherwise this is a great product that i would recomend anyone home or office to have and both sensor and without it its still a great deal!

You have to read the manual before it says anything about this camera "not" to be used in rain. This should be considered to be an indoor camera and should say as much on the outside of the box. Instead it says it is an excellent camera for garage entry, doorways, etc. which would have you to believe this is an outdoor camera as well.
Also this camera is almost useless for night vision. the picture is very grainy and not clear even when used near a porchlight or patio light. Would be a great camera for indoor use ONLY!

THis is a great camera for the price. I bought it because my nieghboors where broke it to. The second day I got it we where broke into, but we showed the cops the recording and they caught the theif. It has great picture.

just a basic camera not very good at all for the money theres much better cameras out there for the same price,night time its useless ,fair picture in daytime or good lighting.audio works good,bought it to replace a older [...]camera that went bad ,useing the new camera for a 4 camera set up i got in the past .they need to bring back there old set up they use to sell.

It works great in daytime, the picture is not clear at night. However, the price is much reasonable as this is DIY camera.

I have to agree with the other two reviews. This camera is absolute garbage. The picture is dull and grainy,and as for the night vision. For get about it, the picture area is so small and sandy. This camera is defanity being returned. They could lower the price to 5 dollars and i wouldnt buy this camera.

I bought this camera as an add-on to existing system. The color reproduction is not good at all compared to my other cameras in daylight conditions. The night vision on the camera is useless. Unless the object is within 3 feet of the camera you can't see it well at all. And then it only shows about 20% of the image as a "center spot." The areas outside of the center don't show up.

Camera works good In daylight But soon as the sun starts going down, you lose picture, this camera does not provide clear pictures in the dark as advertised. still a good camera for daytime use, it covers most of our front yard, just a little grainy but no to bad for the price.

THE CAMERA WORK GREAT IN THE DAY. YOU CANNOT SEE ANYTHING IN THE NIGHT.
