Be aware of the following: First, the Smart Button can only "learn" Skylink brand remotes, so you will not be able to use the programmable buttons in your car, such as the "HomeLink" system in Toyota products. Next, you probably will have to buy an AC adapter, so be sure there is an outlet near where you plan to mount the button. If buying at Radio Shack, you'll need the "H" tip. The instructions don't tell you the following (but US technical support did): 1) to enter "learn" mode, you have to press and hold the "learn" button for two seconds. 2) a failed "learn" attempt does consume one of the 14 available memory slots for remotes. 3) to clear all memory slots, press and hold the "learn" button for 10 seconds (until the LED flashes rapidly). Finally, I had bought two units since I thought needed two remotes (it turns out I would need four because I cannot program the cars' buttons). After half an hour on the phone with US support, I still could not get the Smart Button to recognize more than one Skylink remote at a time (it could learn either one separately, so they were not defective). But, even if that had worked, if I were to keep the Smart Button, I'd have to buy two more units, meaning I'd have spent about [$] (including the AC adapter), and still have a 15-year old motor. I can replace the whole thing for about [$].Having said all that, if you only need one remote, the Smart Button is a cheap and easy solution.
I installed three units because each failed after several weeks to several months. To make a long story short, [...]. When the unit worked, it had a very limited range.Better units are available!
no complaints other than the instructions could have been written a bit cleared. They jumped around a bit... all-in-all, I had it working and installed in 45 minutes.
My garage door opener is 28 years old. Therefore I had been looking for six months for a replacement remote. I saw other units at hardware stores but this is as simple as those and at less than half the price. I spent about 15 minutes installing this unit and it worked first time, every time.
It was easy to install and worked as described
Very easy to install, upgraded my garage door opener to rolling code at the same time.
