DO NOT BUY

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I installed this device a few months ago and was very happy, but last night the button evidently shorted and opened my garage door ON ITS OWN. That, fortunately, set off my house alarm, else my garage door motor would have burned out and my garage would have been completely open throughout the night.

I bought this to replace my 10-year old garage keypad that was no longer working. It was extremely easy to install and so far has been excellent. The touch pad is so much more responsive than my old one. I have had this product for 2 weeks and so far, I love it.

"Worked" for 10 months

Cons:
Unreliable

Worked well for about 1 month and then became unreliable using lithium batteries that needed to be replaced frequently despite testing out as still powered. Could not reliably signal through a standard garage door that was 21 feet from receiver . Worked well with garage door open only. Finally died after 10 months

works well but may require AC adapter
By EZRVerified Reviewer from Belmont, CA on 4/27/2008
Pros:
Easily Understood Instructions
Cons:
no AC adapter
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Very easy to install, *if* your existing garage door button provides power already. Otherwise, you'll need to provide your own AC adapter, which isn't included. I was lucky and found one around the house that worked, and that did the trick. Everything else about this is pretty much as advertised - just attach the wires, program the remote, and you're done.

Contrary to another user's experience, a power failure does not cause this to open my garage door. Also, batteries for the remote are included, which wasn't clear from the product description.

Power failure bug now non-issue

After reading the reviews here, I fully expected to have a problem with power failures, as we have several per year here in the Pacific Northwest. Apparently they have addressed this issue as mine (build date 10 07) doesn't open the door when power cycles off/on. This is with a Genie Bluemax D.O.

One issue I do have is that it doesn't work with my RV garage's Challenger CH1000. It is a 24volt system and the "Smart Button" doesn't fuction at all with it.

Customer service is very good (a rare comodity in this age), both on the phone and via e-mail. They are working on a solution for the Challenger D.O. I'll file an update here when they have one.

Worked great...the first 3 times

Relatively easy installation. The programming/learning function of the smart button (not the keypad) is easy to overlook in the instructions. Worked great the first 3 or 4 times, then it just quit accepting my personal code in less than 2 weeks.

Serious security problem with [...] remote

The product has a quirk that exposes my property and family in an unacceptable way. When power is restored after an outage, the remote opens the garage door, leaving the house not only unlocked, but obviously unlocked. Just a day after I installed the Radio Shack remote a neighbor came to the door to tell me that both of my garage doors had been standing open all night. We'd had a power outage so I suspected that. When I unplugged the opener and the remote and then plugged them back in, the door opened every time. Without the Radio Shack remote buttons, the door does not open after a power outage. Power outages are unpredictable, leaving the house unsecureable while the device is connected. The product has clearly not been fully tested for all modes of operation. It IS a security device, after all.
