I bought this clock because of the size of the display, and the colour of that display, little knowing that the CD player would stop working after three days. Every day this clock gains an extra 5 minutes. Also, the nice large display likes to go so dim, it becomes unreadable even in a dark room. This was the worst purchase I've made in a long, long time. When I went back to return it for a different model I was told that they didn't have any more in stock and I would have to come back later.
First alarm clock I've bought since 1983 - not kidding - my old one finally bit the bucket.Tired of waking up to a buzzer, thought I'd try this. While it will play CD's (but not anything in MP3 format?!?!?) it always plays track 1 from the CD in alarm mode. Meaning you're going to get pretty sick of waking up to the same song every morning. There is a button for random play, but it's only for regular playback not for the alarm mode playback apparently. This would be the biggest drawback about the clock in my opinion. It appears I will have to set it to wake up to a radio station instead, so I don't get sick of waking up to the same song everyday, or sick of hitting the random button. The display is bright but can be dimmed. The buttons on the top are easy to use, but the slide switches on the sides of the clock are a pain. There are even 2 switches on the bottom of the clock - absolutely a pain. And if you're looking for great sound quality, you won't find it with this product. Even with the volume on medium, I hear a ton of crackling on the speakers. For [$], I expected a lot more. I'm going to keep it - there aren't many other stores or choices in this area. Am I completely happy and satisfied with this product? No.
You get what you pay for.
1. Even though it has a big and impressive display, its viewing angle is very narrow and readability deteriorates as you move away from perpendicular.
2. Sound quality is mediocre even though it has 2 speakers.
3. The radio has a digital display but it is not a digital PLL tuner (just a legacy analog tuning knob). The antenna is just a hanging wire that you have to extend and play with.
4. CD mechanism is too noisy for something that you are going to use at your bedside.
5. It has 2 alarm memories but the switch is located on the bottom of the radio... maybe an afterthought.
6. Some functions are controlled by big buttons on the top while others by tiny sliding switches on both of the sides.
However, I find this acceptable for bedside use and better than smaller clock radios.
We purchased this radio/clock for our son when he was born 15 months ago. The clock was difficult to read from off-center angles. After 6 months, we noticed the CD player would simply stop playing and after 15 months, neither the CD player nor the radio worked. I guess I'm back in the market for a decent radio/clock!
I returned 2 units before I got one that worked. The first one: the casing rubbed against the CD resulting in hissing sound. The second one: I couldn't turn the radio off. If it weren't for the fact that Radio Shack was the only source within walking distance and I needed clock radio, I would have gotten my money back.
Good product. One of my friends has one in his bedroom, so I am well-acquainted with it since I spend a lot of time at his home. I am planning to buy one next month (May 2008) when I'll have earned enough money to pay. Occasionally skips minutes, but if you fiddle with it, then it eventually fixes itself, basically. On the whole, good product! I would definitely recommend this to a friend besides the one that already has it. (giggle!)
I've had problems with this unit before. Mostly it is the CD Player that has been faulty. Often it just won't start, and when it does work it gets stuck in its track and won't move. It just doesn't work.
its really easy to read and gets great reception and the big blue display is easy to read and it looks awsome and last since it has a cd player i can listen to my favorite stuff
It's a nice clock, nice design, but it doesn't keep track of time very well. It runs a bit slow. I have to readjust the minutes every week or so. Nice design, but I wouldn't recommend it. CD's play alright though.
Not recommended, not even to an enemy, despite good price and CD feature because:
(a) Functional displays (i.e., AM,PM,Alarm set, etc.) are not bright enough to read even with room lights off;
(b)Very poor sound quality (i.e., too tinny, volume distorts when volume turned up); and (c)digital frequency readout on FM, off by 0.1-0.2MHz.
First unit CD failed to function properly and was returned. Reviewer has over 45 year experience in electronics and sound systems.
Nevertheless, unit is somewhat stylish!
The Cd player mechanism is too loud for the bedroom. Otherwise a nice display and digital radio tuning
