Cannot belive I've lost the good old white timer, which I came to love, especially after getting the new one... the old one was bad enough, beeping 14 seconds... (why not a setting to adjust the beeps and volume??? this would make everyone happy) The new one is simply horrible... a full 60 seconds of loud beeping before it stops, it is just awful in the midst of meditation or yoga practice. Please!
It does not have a volume option which would be great since it is very loud. And overall just not as good as the previous clock/timer which was bigger and better.
I really like the size and design of this timer. However, the previous white version had soft keys, and did not beep with every press of a key. It was also not as loud. Great for testing children and adults. It is difficult to be discrete when timing with this version. It would be nice if the next version would have the same features as the last version. AND....hopefully the third version will be out very soon.
Bring back the old timer, 63-1601. Loved its loud/soft beep choices, its 10- and 5-minute warning beeps and its big buttons for my clumsy old fingers. The new timer does not meet needs.
Great for E Bay
Too loud? Easily fixed... Just unscrew the back and cut the speaker wire! You can even ask the store clerk to do this for you.

I like to use as a sleep timer but does not ring loud enough as I have a hearing problem.

Like most of the other reviews, I wish RS had not "upgraded" from the old white timers. This one is beautifully designed, but too loud for what I need it for.

Radio Shack used to make a white timer that was silent (unless you used the count down feature), but I lost mine. This one sucks. It makes way too much noise. I needed for testing students...the noise is too distracting so I need to find another one.
RADIO SHACK...PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD SILENT TIMER!!!!!!!

Is anyone at Radio Shack reading the customer reviews? I also preferred the old white timer that did not make noise. I work with special needs children and sometimes need to time without them being aware I am doing so. The BEEP doesn't allow that to happen. When is Radio Shack going to listen (or rather read) the customer reviews and silence this product?

The timers are useful for high school speech tournaments and mock trial tournaments. But the loud beeps interfere with the speakers. There should be a silent version with no beeps for use during these tournaments.

I bought the previous white model (referred to by other reviewers) for use at a 12-step meeting. The format of this meeting (and every other I have attended) focuses on 3-minute "shares" by members. Setting the countdown timer and starting it, again and again during the course of a meeting, was a silent process using the old model. Having lost the original, we now must endure many unnecessary and irritating beeps.

The beeps have to go. We used the version before this one and loved it. But the beeps drive us crazy.

WHY did they make this version. The classic [...] Count Up/Count Down Timer was much better than this newer version. The older one was white, essentially the same, but the buttons worked a little more logically, and the sound was much less obnoxious (and easier to disable). This gets a 5 on a 1-10 scale on its own, but by comparison to the older version, it is a 1.

When timing speakers in a room, I don't want attention drawn to me as the timer whenever I SET the timer. This stupid device BEEPS each time a key is depressed. Perhaps they think you're so stupid you need to be reminded that you pressed the key even though you can see the display. This beep is why I'm returning the device.

As a teacher and a mother in NYC, I use this timer for everything! At home I use it to time laundry, cooking, naps, time out, 5-more-minutes warnings, alternate side parking. In the classroom I use it to time group times, turn-taking, various games, etc. to keep us on track. The display is large and readable, the beep is not too loud or quiet. I love that it can time up or down. It's so practical in that it can stick to the fridge with a magnet, stand on a table with its little kick stand, clip to my belt or fit in my pocket. I finally got a second one for the classroom because I was tired of toting it back and forth. I have bought other digital timers and none are so practical or reliable. This is the only one I'll every use.

Excellent sound level -- not obnoxious, but you can hear it in most environs. Start/stop button too easily pushed by accident causing unit to stop count -- should be recessed (I epoxied a button surround-wall to eliminate this problem)

Very easy to setup. Even my wife can do it. The tone is a series of short beeps that repeats for up to 1 hour. Not that annoying but gets your attention.

Love the timer, love the 10-key feature (hard to find anywhere esle) but can't stand the KEY BEEP. Am returning it for a refund.
