This is my 4th Tivo and I purchased 2 for my parents as gifts! My favorite feature is to pause/rewind a live broadcast. When you're trying to hear a weather/special report/news headlines or whatever is important to you and your kids interrupt to share something with you that is important to them you can give them your attention and then rewind the broadcast to hear what you could have otherwise missed. Or when your favorite show is on and the telephone rings; I used to ignore the telephone so I wouldn't miss an American Idol performance or whatever. Now, I can have my cake and eat it too. I also love the Season Pass feature which allows you to enter your favorite shows and no matter when they air Tivo will record it for you. If your favorite show moves to a new night/time, you have no worries because Tivo keeps track of when it airs and records it for you. If you're a parent and your kids have you taking them here and there, you need to get to the school/sporting event/recitals with Tivo you can come home to your favorite shows and watch them when you have the time. No more racing back to sofa to catch your favorites. We can spend more time outdoors playing with the kids and enjoying the weather when it's nice and watch televion when there's nothing better to do. It is very freeing to watch TV broadcasts when you have time rather than trying to fit your life around when it is broadcast by the network/cable provider. What makes this unit so special is its ability to record two shows at once. This has been fabulous since the networks are always competing with each other for viewers. Now, we just record both and go do something fun or whatever our schedule demands. So, my husband has one that records golf, basketball and political news. No matter how much he travels or plays golf he never misses he favorite teams, or Tiger Woods, etc. My teen records her favorite programs on the Tivo in her room. I record my favorites and my toddler's favorites on the others. We love that he can watch Barney (for example) after dinner/bed if he wants regardless of whether it aired early this morning or it's one of his favorite episodes from two weeks/months/years ago! I've had two of my Tivos for more than 3 years and there have been no problems. We wanted 3 of them because there were times when our favorites were airing at the same time, but with this new Tivo you don't need muliple units. We record at least two shows everyday so they get A LOT of use! If you're a parent, Tivo will change your life! It is well worth the price. What price do you put put on freedom?

I've used it everyday; recording 4-5 hours and keeping a 25+ stash of movies saved. It has never let me down. I'm ready for an HD DVR and just heartbroken that TiVO doesn't make one compatible with satellite.

Tivo Series 1

The Tivo is the worst electronic device I have ever purchased. It does not work 1/4th of the time. I have to reset it on a daily basis to get it to see a signal from DirecTv and most of the time it has a huge black box in the middle of the picture. I tried to cancel my Tivo service the 1st week but they informed my I was stuck with their boat anchor for 1 year by my agreement. I do not recommend anyone buying the series 1 Tivo and only hope the series 2 is a better product, not that I would ever buy one.

I installed the TiVo in under 10 minutes. It connected directly to my wired home network and linked to TiVo immediately. After the Guided Setup finished, my TiVo was online within 40 minutes. This has to be the easiest to use DVR I have!

I have used the DVR boxes from Direct TV and the cable company and they are very inferior. Tivo has the best ease of use and overall simplicity. What if you forget to record something? You can login from any computer and tell you Tivo to record it. Do you want to listen to music, watch movies, show your pictures on your Tivo, it's as easy as can be. I am 100% behind Tivo.
