This unit has no capacity to program it for later recording. I've never in my life seen such a thing.

Bogus. It's going back!

After about a year the internal fuse blew on our player. It had a video and a DVD stuck inside. I had to take it apart to retrieve the two items and figured I'd try replacing the fuse just to see if it would work. I replaced the fuse and got it working, but the player broke in several places during the forced removal of the dvd and video. My wife bought this because it was cheap. Personally, I'd invest a little more up front to get a longer lasting more durable product.

I wanted a cheap combo VCR and DVD player. I wasn't expecting it to do much for the price, but when I got it home the machine did not work. The DVD tray did not open, which was needless to say the reason I took it back to the store. The saleperson at Radioshack was very unhelpful, agitated by me, and refused to except the fact that the machine was faulty (even after he plugged it in and found out first hand it didn't work!). I had purchased a 1 year replacement plan, but they failed to acknowlege it. I am very disappointed by Radioshack, and I will never shop there again.

No VHS hi-fi audio!
By CamCruiserVerified Reviewer from Ventura, CA on 5/14/2008
Cons:
Flimsy Construction, No hi-fi audio, Unattractive Design
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Even though this unit has left & right audio output jacks for VHS section, its VHS section only has standard monophonic audio. I removed the top cover, and verified that there are no hi-fi audio heads on the video drum. Sylvania really cut corners on this unit with a very low-end VCR. Folks with VHS hi-fi stereo tapes will only be allowed to hear the monophonic linear track. How miserable!

I am very pleased with my unit. I had it set up and running in less than 10 minutes. I have 2 other Sylvania vcr/dvd's at my home and have purchased this for use at my work.

Some people have criticized this unit for not having a tuner. This is not a fair criticism! In my shopping, I've found that all companies have quit putting tuners on these type units.

Disappointing
By Disgruntled from Iowa on 2/7/2008
How long have you owned it:

Cons:
Unable to connect cable.
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My grandmother bought one after a radioshack employee assured her that it would work for recording cable TV. I took it out of the box and took one look and knew it would not be able to record from a cable tv source. There isn't a connection for a cable source on the VCR. You can run RCA cables from your tv to the vcr and record that way if your tv happens to have an output source for it, which my grandmothers doesn't. Even if her tv did have the ability to do that, it still wouldn't do what she wants. You would have to sit and watch what you are recording and not be able to watch another channel. She has several programs that she watches and are on at the same time. Its nice to be able to record one and watch the other. This vcr offers no way to do that. I think its an extremely poor design and the Radioshack employee who sold it to her should be very ashamed of pawning off a substandard piece of equipment to her. Needless to say it has been taken back and she will no longer be shopping at Radioshack.
