you have to pay[$]every 90 days for this service after you buy it, not worth it
I bought this to replace my old router which was starting to seem like it was giving out on me and is a cheaper router. I am a internet tech, and still spent a hour on the phone with my internet service provider after disconnecting the old router and directly connecting the modem once I had the setup disc in! Then once I got the router installed, and had it only 10 feet from my laptop going wireless it was only getting 8 MBPS signal strength at most!!!! Do not waste your money on this.
I just bought this router yesterday (my 2nd purchase); [...] The installation CD gave very clear directions on how to set up. It would have literally taken me 20 mins to set up IF I did not make a mistake and put in the wrong password. So far it is working great, with my desktop, laptop and Ipod touch.
I just got a laptop & was excited about getting on line wireless so i did the researh thing about routers and came across the Linksys which i purchased at [...] for $80 which I thought wasn't bad. when i tried to install it, it failed called tech support which they was very nice since i was calling the Philippine's 12hr ahead of us and still no connection, after about an hour of tech support I was able to get on line but only on one laptop there 2 in the house after tryin to figure out the problem no laptops would connect and it went like this for 2days after being fedup I took it back and purchase the Netgear from radio shack it only took an hour and 4 calls to tech support (calls kept getting disconected)for me to get connect to the web on both laptops.
I read everyone else's reviews on almost every router out there. I picked this one up at RS for[$]. It took me about 5 minutes to install and it works just like it is supposed to. It will be interesting to see how long it will last, but I would recommend it.
I think it's good but I had a problem with the cd installation. So I called Tech support. They help me very well. I found out that I didn't need the cd. I was on xbox live with it yesterday on xbox live, me and my friend on downloaded the samething at the same time. and when he was on done with the download I was still on like 35%. I use at&t yahoo and he uses cavalier. I had nothing else on the router but my computer (wired and off) and my xbox 360 (wired). That got me so mad that this moden is like a slug compared to a bunny and he was only using a diret connection. I dont even think that is router is xbox live compatible. I think I might switch to the netgear RANGEMAX WIRELESS ROUTER WPN824. And plus I use the router for: xbox 360 (wired and probroly wireless in the future if I don't get that netgear RANGEMAX WIRELESS ROUTER. and sometimes it lags every now and then and downloads are slow), nintendo wii (wireless and sometimes the router drops my signal. I have the wii in the living room and the router is upstairs in "my room". And I sill have the computer of and the xbox 360 disconnected), psp wireless and it work fine with online gaming although the psp online game I use for now is atv off road fury pro and nobody really be on that game anyway), and my computer (wired and it has problems here and there with the internet connection plus videos load slowly on my computer over half the time).
After striking out with the Linksys WRT54G2 Wireless-G Router, I took it back to my local Radio Shack store and exchanged it for this Netgear Super-G wireless router a few days ago. I'm very glad I did! So far, I've had no problems at all with the Netgear router. Basic set-up took me about half-hour (a bit longer than the manufacturer's estimate of 20 minutes), but it was fairly easy to set up. A word to the wise: INSTALL AND CONFIGURE THE ROUTER ON THE SAME COMPUTER THAT YOU USED TO SET UP YOUR DSL/HIGH SPEED INTERNET SERVICE, even if you're not planning on using wireless internet access on that computer. At first, I put the Netgear installation CD in my new laptop, and got an error message stating that my DSL connection could not be detected. Once I switched and put the installation CD on my old desktop that I had used to sign up for DSL service, it was smooth sailing from there.
Basic setup of the router was a breeze - the installation CD walked me through the entire process, step-by-step. Advanced set-up is a bit less user-friendly. If, like me, you're a member of generation X or later (and therefore comfortable with computers), you should be able to figure out how to set up a secure network and other advanced features on your own. (Securing your wireless home network is a "must," since just doing basic set-up alone leaves your network -- and all computers on it -- wide open for hackers and identity-thieves.) However, if you're largely clueless about computers, you might find the instructions a bit lacking in that respect. A printed manual does not come with the unit, and the CD-manual and on-screen instructions don't exactly hold your hand through the advanced set-up process. However, you'll probably be able to muddle your way through it all in the end.
Since setting everything up, I couldn't be happier with the router and my new home network. It is super-fast, and my laptop and smartphone can detect and connect to my home network with ease. Once the router got up and running, it appears to be virtually maintenance-free (I think that the firmware even updates automatically).
Even the most basic computer-users will be happy with the Netgear Super-G. If you are new to computers or uncomfortable with all things technical, you should expect set-up to take a bit longer, or even to have to call the toll-free Netgear technical support line. ;-)
Works great with my PS3, PSP, and Xbox live.
Purchased this item at a Radio Shack store yesterday. Attempted to hook it up in the afternoon and kept hitting snags. Eventually had to connect with my internet provider to figure out if my settings needed to be changed on my home PC to make it work...they did (AT&T DSL). I had to switch to a "Bridge Modem". Once that was done things moved very smoothly and it was up and running in 30 mins. I am 100% computer illiterate so I knew it would take me longer to hook it up, but I did it! My home computer running great and my husbands Dell Inspiron (4 yrs old) is able to pick it up no problem with a card. All in all the unit is attractive and not too bulky. The price was good and it is doing what it is supposed to...so it was a good buy in my book.
Very easy to setup with step by step instructions, good signal strength and great tech support.
this product is very fast, and great for the price, I bought it for myself and for a friend we are both very pleased....
This router was easy to set-up and works great. I have a DSL modem and entire install took about 10 minutes. I have a an iBook so you basically plug in the router and and configure the modem connection, the Mac confogures itself. I do have a PC running Windows xP, but based on my experience with Windows, I am just assuming it will not work so I have not not bothered to hook it up.
The router is small and coverage is great, I did call tech support and they were also great. I did not know mac users have to add a $ prefix to use WEP security.
I got this tried to hook up and had a bit of a problem but finally got it up and running with minimal effort. Signal strength is good. For the price, I would suggest this product.
I spent the day trying to get this unit to work with my DSL. It is all set right and yet I can no longer get a connection. I'm returning it...not good with DSL. Can't get support because you no longer have internet.
