DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER FOR THE WIRELESS PART. IF YOU ARE JUST LOOKING FOR A PLUG IN CAPABILITY THIS IS THE ROUTER FOR YOU. THE WIRELESS SIGNAL WILL GO OUT ALMOST ON KEY.

I use the router frequently. I have about 5 devices running on this one router. It is really compact and has a sleek design. Don't worry, the lights can be turned off with a push of a button on the back.

We got this router to have a wireless network since we have a PC and a Laptop. Once the router was set up we routinely had issues with it talking to the laptop but not the PC and had to keep redoing the IP address, but it was manageable after the umpteenth time because we knew how to fix it. We have called tech support a minimum of 3 times since buying it due to issues. This week it wouldn?t talk to either, and when my husband called tech support, they said it was a hardware issue and we would just have to buy a new one (We had the product for 4 months) and that the warranty expired 4 days ago so they wouldn?t help us, but we could call their other tech support in India for $60 a minute (because the consumer has to pay the int?l calling charges). When my husband said he did not want to talk to India, they hung up on him. It timed so perfectly for the hardware to be broken that we almost suspect it was built to go out shortly after warranty. Netgear is now banned from our home.

This product is the best on the market besides linksys that is cheaper. The product offers range over the complete house and also provides its own security. The set up is simple and you can even view your customized settings at the website routerlogin. net. The only thing bad is that sometimes and very rarely does the router need to be rebooted but all other routers are the same like that and all you need to do is unplug it for a minute.

Netgear's Vista Drivers Mostly Useless
By FrankVerified Reviewer from Clovis, CA on 8/28/2007
Pros:

High bandwidth user
Primary use:
Business
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

If you try to use a Netgear notebook adapter on a laptop that is running Windows Vista 99% of the time it will not work. To get the high speed you have to use a Netgear RangeMax adapter with the router, and you will get the high speed if the wireless RangeMax adapter is not on a compter using Vista. Netgear is making no attempt to upgrade the drivers. [...] The set up cd that comes with the router is out dated and you have to set it up manually. So if your not running Windows Vista and are able to configure the router manually it is a good router.

Unpacked the box, put CD in computer and followed on screen instructions. Results router was up and working with no problem in less than 20 minutes. PS3 found the signal and connected in no time. Easiest install I have ever done. No drop connections yet either.

Much aggravation, would not configure from the CD. Tech Support would not help until it was registered. Could not register through Netgear web site until I installed Active X control and Flashplayer. TS then helped me through manual install but did not tell me that I can not use software firewall such as Zone Alarm with this router. Can not use XP to add computer to the network. It also dropped the internet connection way too frequently. Usable if you do not want to control your own fire wall. TS could not tell me how to get around that and blamed other problems on my computer. I tried it because it appeared to be the best and fastest but I returned it and went back to my old router

By Cindy P from N. Royalton, OH on 5/28/2007

Let me just say that I'm not exactly what you would call technologically inclined, but setting this baby up was a cinch! Seems to work great. Great buy because the signal goes so far - I don't have to even sit in the house to use my laptop now! Very happy with this purchase.

I cannot stress how ...
By Jennifer GVerified Reviewer from San Diego, CA on 3/21/2007
Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good Value, Reliable

I cannot stress how awesome Netgear routers are. I've had nothing but problems with both Linksys and D-Link, but once switching to Netgear, I've had absolutely no problems. My family members all ask for me to set up their wired and wireless home (and office, in a few cases!) networks, and I always get a Netgear router. This particular router is very easy to set up, if you have basic experience with networking, and easy to figure out if you have no experience. This is the router I use when it comes to businesses and family members who are involved in gaming and large amounts of multimedia downloads. It really is "screamingly fast" and not ONE person has had to call me for technical support!

Worst router I've ever ...
By Phil G from Media on 6/30/2006

Worst router I've ever seen. Drops all internet connections frequently. Only way to fix it is to turn the router off and on. I was using it with RangeMax USB, PCI and PC cards (WPN111, WPN511, and WPN311). Upgraded to the most current firmware and software for all equipment. Even tried the old software and new software on completely reformatted systems. Same exact problems. The cards also seem to get "clogged" after 3-4 Gigabytes of transfers, and either stop working entirely (need to reboot), or cycle from 0 Kb/s to 800Kb/s every 10 seconds (needs reboot as well). The Netgear cards even do this with my old router. Customer Support told me to go to the store where I bought it and ask the sales people for help! Unbelievable. Oh and to use the router as it is intended with both Auto 108g speed and XR - extended range function, you are STUCK on Channel 6 (default for ALL routers)- neighborly interference could be an issue. Don't waste time or money on RangeMax.

This router is good until ...
By Sam - from South on 4/2/2006
Pros:
Good performance

This router is good until you try to use it with an Xbox 360. It has strict NAT settings, and in which with this router cannot be changed. Netgear DOES NOT give support on the product for free, it is $40 for support after 90 days. It is hard to configure if you have dsl, and the cd does not work. If youy are looking for a GOOD router go LINKSYS.
