I have a pretty fair computer background, but until today I have never done anything with networking. I bought the Wireless-G router with a Super-G Wireless PC Card. Then I started fixing my lunch, and started setting up the gear at the same time.

I had everything up and running before my food was ready. I even had my Wii updating it's software. If it continues to work like it does now in... oh let's say a month, I'll consider this a very good purchase. (experience has shown me that if problems don't crop up in the first month or two, your not going to have a major problem unless visible physical damage has occurred.)

Out of the box set up was a piece of cake. CD helps to make sure you've made all connections correctly. I could not get an internet signal after making all the proper connections. I called tech support. They were easy to talk to and very patient. They were in the Phillipines, but his English was very good. He had me check several things and was eventually able to determine that the problem was with the current LAN settings on my computer. We made the changes and immediately had a connection. Ran my PC and my laptop off the router already. Both ran efficiently with no delays. Great little piece of equipment. Bought it on sale - great value for the money. THANKS Radio Shack and NETGEAR!

Works well for G series with encryption
I can not get it to work with my IBM notebook with an Intel pro wireless lan 2100 3b mini in WEP mode. I have installed the latest intel drivers. It works in unsecure mode with the 2100 3b mini but when connecting with a security key, it lets you connect but will not allow you to do anything. My son's DS lite works with WEP 64bit on this router.
Learn to use the reset button on the back after making changes to the setup.

WEP key issues: If you generate a passkey based on a phase, it will show you a key in uppercase letters and numbers. If you have difficulty, try entering the key on your device with lower case letters. That is what I have to do to get the key to work. I here B mode devices are not well supported. It works much better with G mode wireless lans. I wish the DS ran better encrytion.
Do not bypass the encryption. learn to use it. WEP is not the safest, WPA is better but at least it should keep most out of your network.

I have a Verizon DSL router and i orginally bought the Linksys router but it would not work with the DSL modem. I finally bought the Netgear router and setup was very easy; you don't even need the cd. Basically plug-n-play. After connecting the router to the computer and opening internet explorer, an install screen came up , installed prefectly. I did a wired connection, haven't tried the wireless, should work though.

My main 2 reasons for the router is the firewall and when someone else comes over with a laptop, pc or apple, can connect. I have had several different brands of laptops in my house and everyone had no difficulty connecting to the internet. Setup another router just like mine in a friends house and no problems there either. Only thing, once in a great while it needs to be rebooted but what doesn't.

I've setup several wireless networks, using various brands of routers. Was recommending Linksys, till I bought this one for my own home. I've got a pretty complex network built using several Netgear products, all have been VERY reliable. As far as the setup, just need to understand what you are trying to accomplish before you tackle it. If you don't, seek a pro's help. Most tech support is reading off queue cards, can't help in all situations. Location is important, have it as close to center as possible but need to be creative. These unit are small and white, they blend into any decor. Our's in the living room (wife approved) tucked behind a picture on top of the entertainment center.

I did my research and found Netgear to be the highest reviewed for wireless routers. I originally intended to purchase the Rangemaster for [$], but then I decided to try the [$] Wireless G instead. I'm glad I did! My dsl modem and wireless router are located at the opposite end of the house from where my fiance' and I have our laptops. The signal is just as strong there, and it works very well. I experienced a little difficulty setting up the router, but it was a problem with the configuration of my dsl modem and not the router. After spending about forty-five minutes on the phone with ATT tech support, I had everything up and running. Excellent router at an excellent price.

Works great! However the install CD could not detect the router. I then had to configure the rest manually. Once you get that done, this baby works wonders. It is a lot faster than the linksys WRT54G.

Would not recommend to ANYONE unless your just looking for a cheap router. But still after a few months you have to buy another.

I was looking for an inexpensive wireless router to set up as an access point. My expectations were fairly modest, so I picked this one up on sale.

It immediately boots up to the access screen and it's a breeze to set up. I had no problems changing the settings to turn it into an access point. It has enough range to reach the entire house, and enough encryption to keep it secure. I was pleasantly surprised.

It gets warm, so make sure you put it upright on the enclosed stands for ventilation. I wonder if overheating is the cause for some of the early failures noted on other review sites.

Of all the routers that I have installed, this is the most simplistic out there. Step-by-step and out of the box simple security makes this the one I recommend for novice users (and even myself). The simple security setup makes it a god-send for getting your neighbors off your bandwidth. A+!

By MT L from San Gabriel on 6/23/2007

This is one of the worst router. When the connection is up, everything is fine, giving me the speed. But the router restart all the time. And the setup has problem, my connection is on and it said it cannot detect the connection. BTW, I have a master degree CS. I am sure that is the design problems. Better pay $20 extra to get a Linsys

This router works great, worth every penny of the price. I didn't get enough range with my old router, so I wired this to the other side of my house, and messed around with the setup, Now I get this signal everywhere, even in my yard (the initial setup was a bit confusing because I connected it to my other router, but now it works great. I should be easy for an experienced user. I have read that the firewall blocks games, I don't know because I don't play games, so watch out)

By S. E from Biss on 6/13/2006

I bought this product thinking not only was I getting a great deal, but the reviews were excellent. Their customer support left alot to be desired, not to mention how incomplete their database feels. Typing in one question gives you 10,000 answers and I just don`t have that kind of time to sift through answers. I am very computer savvy-I design websites for a living- and this was by far the hardest thing I have even done. I say, spend the extra bucks on a router that includes really good support. This one, just doesn`t include that.

By Russ V from New York State on 6/10/2006

I read many reviews regarding this unit prior to purchase. Many were poor and some were great. Being the optomist that I am I went with the latter. That was a big error in judgement. First let me say that this is not the first network that I have worked on. From the beginning with the poor at best instructions to the fact that I never did get the computer to communicate with the modem was a disaster. The instructions say not to connect anything...when you start the set-up wizard the first thing it does is look for an internet connection, finds none and tells you there is an error!!! Then you have to quit the software and wonder what to do next. There is a 75 page manual on the CD. However, after searching and figuring that you have to turn enerything off, the manual is gone unless you want to print a 75 page book. Needless to say, I will stay with my MR 314 unit for a while. I never did call product support...I believed the poor reviews that I read on them. I would never recommend this unit. My next is a Linksys for sure.
