This router is junk, would not install, was using the usb adaptor from linksys and it would not install. Spoke with cust. support who did not know what to do then eventually hung up on me. Do any of those guys speak english?
went bad after only 6 months, was hard to determine that this was the piece of hardware that failed.
I too spent more than an hour and a half trying to install this router to my laptop. I would only get so far with the wizard installations and then get error messages, however when I would connect the ethernet cable directly to the laptop I would connect with no problem. Finally, I was able to install by calling tech support (very helpful). Router seemed to work well until I traveled to another room and seemed to drop my connection almost immediately (my apt is tiny!!). So, if you're looking for longer range detection, look into the rangeplus model instead. I'm headed now to the store to return this model and upgrade to the rangeplus model.
This router is just great. Easy to install, but I did have to have the router connected to both the modem and the computer initially for the set up. I had to go wireless because the cable modem is in a different room from the computer so getting the router connected was a bit of a challenge. But completely worth the effort. It set up quickly and I was off surfing in less than 5 minutes.
I bought the WRT54G model about 6 months ago and it broke already. I would HIGHLY recommend that you spend th extra [$] and get the next model up. It is more reliable and has a better feature / function set.
I purchased this item from a Radio Shack store. I spent the entire evening trying in vain to install the router and get it up and running. Whenever I got to the point where my computer would have to detect the router in order to complete installation, the process would "hang" for about 10 minutes without any progress. Then, I would get a message stating that there was an "error" with my ethernet connection. Funny thing is, my ethernet connection and DSL modem were just fine, because I was able to access the internet and surf with ease when I plugged my ethernet cable directly from the DSL modem into the ethernet port on my computer. Tech support was very nice, but this problem was starting to turn into a monster that would take a ton of time to fix. So unfortunately, I'll be returning this Linksys router to the store.
