Works well for capturing over the air digital transmissions -- both hidef and standard def. I did not use the bundled software -- I use it with mythtv (Knoppmyth version r5.5). This device does not support clear QAM (digital cable). The device does run warm, but my experience is that all tuners throw off some heat. I would not describe it as running "hot".Instructions for installing with mythtv can be found at [...]

This product has exceeded my expections. I now watch, record high def tv shows and movies from my computer. My entertainment center now is only my dell computer my hi def tv and my external 500 gig hard drive. At first its kinda of difficult but once you get a good digital signal for local HD channels it will work. Hooking to dish or directv with just s_video there is no problem. The only problem is getting a digital signal for local channels but it takes time (move it around the room to a good position). And also i have a cheap HD 25watt computer stereo Works great (don't need a big stereo)!!! (,then your set.!!!

I had difficulty installing because it is made for XP. I have Vista. You need to go to product site for free upgrade for Vista use. If you get
it working and you don't have HD. simply change channel down past 2 and it goes to HD channel 68.
It sometimes pops out of HD to poor static reception. simple change channel past 68 or 2 and you go back to HD. It's a good product. As to rebates, good luck with that. It's going to be hard complicated work.

I bought this product last week for watching cable TV on my laptop.I have been struggling with Audio preceding video most of the times. After suggestions from tech center the issue still persists and interestingly Radioshack from where I purchased the product refused to refund when contacted over phone!

I don't recommend this product. I guess we are better-off relying on Established products.

Purchased in Store. Said they didn't honor any savings from Internet. Then they changed their tune and said it was a rebate and then not. I went to the website and on the rebate page found the $20.00 rebate, though the sale price was [$] until 4/12/2008, the REBATE PERIOD was listed as 3/2/08 ~ 3/15/08.And needed to be mailed before 4/15/2008. I was disenchanted by this disjointed effort to sale something.

Installed easily on my HP computer running XP. Took about 15 minutes to read the instructions and about 10 minutes to actually do the installation and have TV images on the monitor (about 25 minutes from start to finish). Great product that I would highly recommend.

The website says it receives cable TV. It says it receives digital TV. It says it received HD digital TV.

What it does NOT say (until you read the back of the box) is that it does not receive digital cable TV or digital satellite TV.

Caveat emptor.

Pair this product with a 15-2186 from radioshack and it works perfectly. It is totally worth it. Like I said, replace the antenna that comes with it with the product above and you will have an excellent DVR system on the computer. I Suggest 2 Gig of RAM as the size and quality of the video it receives is massive: about 7.87 Gigs per hour of recorded digital OTA broadcast in HD and 5.1. You may want an external Hard Drive. The auto schedualer is perfect, the recorded videos are highly compatible with many viewers and burners like NERO and Windows Media and are easy to find when they're done recording. Picture quality is as good as or better than my HDTV from Philips.
Now I'll never miss Lost again.

The installation was not without snags, but with persistence and time I was up and running. Though I am near a major city, the included antenna does not pick up any broadcast high def (my samsung tv does). My cable connection is to an analog antenna on the roof and picture is fine...about what you would expect. Works best at lowest resolution. Hey, it looks as good as analog TV ever did and I am writing this review while watching Wheel of Fortune!

I wrote the NICE DEVICE comment a few weeks ago. Since then, I found that all of the MPG videos on my computer that were present BEFORE I installed the software don't play properly. They don't play with RealPlayer and they don't play with Windows MediaPlayer. I did some searches on the web and it looks like others have had similar problems. As of now, I'm trying to un-install the HDTV software from my PC and get it stable again so that my previously recorded MPEG files play properly. I'd be careful installing this software if I were you. My previously glowing review of this product needs to be revised downward quite a bit since the s/w has messed with other programs on my PC (RealPlayer & MediaPlayer). I hope Hauppauge posts a WORKING set of software on their web page soon since the device itself is a pretty cool device.

When you install it, you have to take about 5 minutes to allow the device to scan for all the available signals. That means that you better have a good position for the antenna during this initial scan to ensure you will be able to TRY to view all stations. I second VAJim's recommendation about avoiding the 'updated' software on the web site. DON'T USE IT, IT WILL LOCK UP. Stick with the software on the CD and you'll be fine. It runs a bit hot, but if you have a good signal coming into the antenna, the picture and sound is great.

I set it up on a Toshiba a135-s4467 laptop 1.60MHz C2D running Vista Premium with 2GB of ram and cable TV. I plan on using this in the college dorm. The directions were easy to follow and there were no installation issues. The program runs without problems and the screen quality is very good. I have no problem recommending this product to family and friends.

Installed on a Toshiba 1.73 Mhz dual core, 1MG RAM with Vista. The software on the CD works fine. I ALMOST screwed up by then going to the Hauppauge website and downloading their BETA version. Don't bother. The BETA locked up and just didn't work. Removed the BETA and re-installed the CD version. 3.4b? The picture quality in HD or DT is amazing. I'm not a golf person, but I spend 2 hours watching golf for the great picture. Sound qaulity is a match. Placed attenna on window sill and it pull in several analog and HD transmissions. All of this and a [$] rebate.
