Great CFM and cooling. AC powered.
Quiet most of the time but can be heard easily.
Occassional loud vibration on the cabinet, sounds like an alignment problem. Still looking for a solution or a replacement.
Its probably best where noise is not an issue. I would not recommend it for cooling an entertainment center.

This was my third unit which I use to cool Home Theater cabinets. I use a 20W bulb in series for each fan to slow/quieten the unit to a gentle yet adequate breeze for ventilation.

My use is with an under the desk installation. The desk has a front skirt, which trapped the air under the desk. My computer sits under my desk and the heat built up under the desk and flowed right out in front of me. I cut a hole in the top of the skirt and installed the fan under the desk (with a front grill). It is very quiet for my installation. No more heat coming up into my face. The computer runs cooler too! The fan looks to be very solid construction. I could not be happier with this fan! Note the size of the fan is actually 4.65 inches square.

I USED THIS PRODUCT NOT JUST FOR COOLING DOWN MY ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT BUT I FOUND ALOT OF OTHER USES FOR THIS FAN LIKE TO DRAW AWAY FUMES AND SMOKE WHEN I WOULD USE MY SOLDERING IRON ( FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE) I MADE A BATHROOM POWERED VENTALATOR FOR MY TRAILER, AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON WHAT THIS IMPRESSIVE FAN CAN DO AND THE RELIABILITY IS FANAMONIAL. I RAN THIS FAN NON STOP FOR 3 YEARS ( 24/7) WITH OUT ANY PROBLEMS. I WILL SAY THIS THOU, WHEN THE BEARING GET READY TO GO, YOU DO NOTICE IT, IT WILL RATTLE BUT STILL WORKS. THE CASE HAS SOME WEIGHT TO IT WHICH HELPS IT TO STAY PUT AS A STAND ALONE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FAN EVEN AS A HEATER BOOSTER TO CIRCULATE A FLOOR HEATER'S OUTPUT. I DO RECOMMEND A GRILL FOR IT CAUSE IT WILL HURT YOUR FINGER IF YOU GET IT CAUGHT IN THE BLADES. MY OVER ALL EXPERIANCE.......EXCELLENT PRODUCT!!!!!

Fan for AV Cabinet

This fan is loud, but it moves a lot of air. Very tight tolerance in my AV cabinet and this little sucker really works. Since it moves so much air I bought a 120 VAC slide-style light dimmer at ACE Hardware and plugged it in. I was able to fine-tune the noise and still move plenty of air across my components. I'll be buying another fan for the other side of my cabinet.

I used this in an AV ...
By Brandon N from Denver on 4/11/2007

I used this in an AV cabinet to cool everything mainly my HK receiver but also Cable/DVR unit, XBox, and CD player, in that order. This thing served well for about 3 years with very significant use (it was connected to the switched 115VAC outlet on my receiver). After that much use, the wear on the bearing finally became too great and it started vibrating badly. I am replacing it now - probably with the same unit. I only wish they'd make this with a normal plug end on it, which could be cut off for other applications. This thing is someone noisy for the AV application, and does draw a relatively hefty 220 mA of current, but it's acceptable for the amount of airflow (65 CFM) you get and the fact that one fan can cool a whole AV cabinet full of expe$ive equipment. I think this time around I'd like to build some kind of resistance box to slow the fan down a bit and increase its lifespan & reduce noise.

Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Reliable

I bought this fan to cool my AV equipment in my Entertainment Center. It is a noisy fan for that type of application, but overall, it is a good fan. It does draw a lot of current though, so if you do what I did and engineer a load box to slow the fan down (less noise), use some high wattage resistors.

Great little fan. Not terribly noisy, and easy to install. 120 line voltage was easy to plug into wall socket to cool the back of my built in wine cooler unit that was getting too hot. WOrks great!

Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good Value, Reliable

Most recent application of this fan was installed in a new 65" HDTV that was suffering from overheating and shutdown. One of the best built fans on the market. Entire unit is all cast aluminum with a steel impeller. No plastic and no cutting corners on the bearing structure itself. Very impressive oil film/sleeve bearing design. Far quieter than any ball bearing fan. In addition, this fan has easily outlasted all of the noisy ball bearing fans it has replaced. Have not had one go bad or become noisy yet! Our most expensive equipment gets a retrofit to these units. Overall; EXTREMELY quiet fan with relatively low RPM for high volume of air.

By Jeff L from Orlando on 5/15/2006
Pros:

Noisy fan, especially when installed inside a home theater cabinet. Wire leads are VERY short and make for a difficult installation when flush mounted (good CFM for the price, though!)
