[...] I got this for X-mas and can say it is a great product, easy to use, has everything I expected from a gps, yes maps are not always correct, but guess what... every other company is working off maps from 2006 too. So it's a wash. The only drawback is it does not work bluetoothing to my particular phone, but I see on their website that may change with soon-to-come downloads.. for free.. Don't hesitate to buy this

the tom tom could not pull up simple destinations by name of business. people at the store gave me run around about not being properly loaded with maps etc so i tried a updating on my computer and had the smae results. i returned it to the store and got my money back. tried one more time oredering one from comparemaster online [...]. same result, it could not find what i needed, while my daughters Garmin pulled up multiple locations, was easier to use and she could use it right out of the box. Garmin 350 is far superior to tom tom 720!

the accuracy of the maps on this thing has shaved off time from my commute tremendously. Used it to get to NC last week, and it took me to my destination on the dime, right down to the private driveway. I love the design on this gizmo and the interface is super friendly. I highly recommend it..

the GO720 received as a gift seemed really great when it started out, really nice user interface much nicer than the magellen that was rigid in design and could not be easily modified. wind shield mount is neat and easy to remove and to reattached. The avoiding traffic part is the bummer here, in order to receive live traffic the link is done via bluetooth to your phone which links the gps through an internet linkup, usually an extra service item that we all don't suscribe to on our phones thats an extra 3rd party hidden cost that i would have to suscribe to in order to make the thing work as advertised.other units, not tomtom, receive this info on their own without u paying your phone company for extras you didnt plan on.

a tough review, it is a great device and calculates routes within 3 seconds. however it is lacking seriously when it comes to POI's. i personally have not tried a "B"armin but i know that a EZ navigator can easily get more pois than this device. HOWEVER

there are many places where you can download POI's by category (for example, ur going to want to download STARBUCKS) and its free. the tomtom software is fine and does wat it is suppposed to do. my phone is a bit old and it is not listed on the website but it works anyways, SO DONT WORRY ABOUT IT, MAKE SURE TO MAKE YOUR PHONE VISIBLE it just doesnt import contacts from the phone.
(easily fixed by just dialing ur favorites and then selecting "recently dialed")

overall i wish it was a bit cheaper but it has gotten very high reviews on C N E T and other sites, and its all true. its a good entry level device, just dont expect 6 million POI's, its closer to 4 million. ill update the post as i go along, i was going to buy a gps that rhymes with bavigon but decided to get a gps with a better processor. its not a bad gps, just not amazing.

Nice features - Terrible maps
By VOLS from Knoxville, TN on 12/4/2007
How long have you owned it:

Pros:
Acquires Satellites Quickly, Compact, Secure Mounting
Cons:
Difficult Menus, Inaccurate
Primary use:
Personal
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Residential streets over five years old not on the map. Retail addresses over three years old not on the map. POI database is limited. Respose to e-mail inquiry was from UK and he related how they confirmed the roads in Europe. He suggested to report the map errors. Mapshare was a worthless update.

Works out of box. Menu items are not easily found. I had to guess what tab they are hid under. Programming preferences most challenging. Had trouble programming clock. You would think that if the satellite new what street you were on, it would know what the current time was!!!! Once programmed it is simply unbelievable. The streets are accurate. I tried to take a different route and it simply reprogrammed it. It took less than 10 seconds. To have the GPS to announce streets you need to select the computer voice not one of the other choices. Accessories not readily available, a mild frustration. [...]

Set up out of the box within 3 minutes. On my way to a destination that i never knew existed got me there quicker and without a fuss. Unit has many features. Cancelling out one thing and moving on to another is a breeze. Did find find one or two errors in road names in my county but i corrected them and hooked the Go 720 up to my computer and it uploaded them for others to use across mapshare. I can go on and on about this device. Great GPS no flaws found yet!!!

I would never want to be without it
By AJVerified Reviewer from Seattle, WA on 9/3/2007
Pros:
Accurate Maps, Easy Controls, Easy To Follow Directions, Nice Visual Interface, Reliable
Best Uses:
City Driving, Highway Driving, Larger Cars, Rural Driving, Small Cars
Describe Yourself:
Commuter, Gearhead, Tuner
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

TomTom not only has a super easy to use interface for entering your destination but it's extremely flexible as well. Unlike the Garmin units, you can set the display to show you exactly what is important to you, not what the manufacturer forces on you. Map Share allows you to report things like missing streets or blocked roads and then share those corrections with others. You can even download daily map updates online so you don't have to wait a year to get an updated map. The screen is nice and bright and the text to speech is very good.
