I travel frequently and I don't know how I lived without it. I have had zero problems with it. The traffic advisor has gotten me around lots of traffic. Although my map version was 2 revisions behind the latest map, new out of the box, I think Magellan should provide the latest map for free one time, but they won't. Check your unit for the latest avalible firmware and update it. That's free! Overall I am very happy with it and would recommend it.

I would never buy another. What a shame that a once wonderful mfg. would go to the dogs have this one has. Outsourcing may be the problem. Not helping new customers with problems. WHAT A TERRIBLE SHAME. If I could I would go and get my money back. I belong to several civic org. and will make sure they know of my problems.

great period. for those complaining about it routing you on crowded roads ect. remember u can select how you want to travel for example if you choose a short route, the gps dosent care how crowded the road is. Its going to take you on the shortest route. some people get upset because the gps dont go the way you want it. well if u want it to take your route and u do the gps for shortesst time and it dosent go the way you would go guess what. you dont know the quicker route. the gps is smarter than you in global since let it do the hard work of travling for you

This is a rather unfortunate product. It's difficult to find another GPS with all its features--bluetooth, text-to-speech, points of interest--at such a reasonable price. I had high hopes for the Magellan. Unfortunately, it is inaccurate, tends to find the most traffic-y route, and is difficult to see and control. All of its information tends to crowd the screen, and the voice is difficult to understand. (Instead of "remaining", she seems to be saying "wheeming"...bizarre...)

Additionally, the supposed "voice command" feature is inaccurate and random. The GPS will suddenly say, "Say a command" in the middle of the trip, blocking out the map on the screen when, honestly, you have nothing to say to her. Then, if you do give her a command, she often misunderstands it and asks if you'd like to cancel your route. It's incredibly frustrating.

All in all, you'd probably be better off with a simpler GPS that could do all that it promises to do, or a higher-end GPS that can live up to the Magellan's features. Perhaps this system is just ahead of its time.

Dont use with confusing streets (DC)
By Directionally-Challeneged from Washington, DC on 8/13/2008
Pros:
Easy Menus, Easy To Read
Cons:
Acquires Satellites Slowly, Flimsy Mounting, Freezes, Short Battery Life, Too many bugs in software
Best Uses:
Finding Specific Address, Planning Trips, Rural Navigation
Describe Yourself:
Bad With Directions

I used it in DC, and it was not a good look. I do however, commend it for having correct street addresses and knowing which streets were one-way. However, IT WOULD ALWAYS FREEZE. I would put current location, and it would load the last previous spot used. I got lost too many times off of this thing. NOT WORTH [$]!

The unit is great when it works, but I have only owned it for two months and it keeps locking up on me. Tech support said to reset but the reset button is a small rubber button and it pushed all the way in and now my unit won't leave the system settings screen. Buy the extended warranty because this thing won't last three months. I am going back to Radio Shack and buying the 4250 hoping it is better than my 3250

I got this GPS device less than a month ago and i already have to take it back to radio shack. When i first got the device it was working fine for a good 2 weeks. And then it would have random episodes when it would freeze up on me. So whenever that happen i would just push the reset button praying that all my saved addresses would not get deleted. Now the device is just acting stupid. No matter what i try the device wont get out of the system settings menu. Im going to the store and getting my money back.

I don't leave home without this product. If I can use this Magellan GPS 1250 with ease, anyone can. Sometimes I try to trick the system by not acknowledging the direction of a location I put into the GPS, and it will continue to route me from any location back to where I should be. A few times it has mis-guided me or taken me in a round-about-way to my location, but that is rare. I can also talk to family and friends with this system which is great with the new California Law effective 7/1/08 that you will get a ticket if driving without a hands free divice while talking on a cell phone. The Magellan Bluetooth is just another option instead of using your cell phone. Finding Restaurants, gas stations, parks, etc is wonderful. I had my GPS for about 3 months before I even opened the package because of my own fear of not being able to work it - was I ever wrong. Now, I can't live without it, just like cell phones, computers, CD/DVD's, etc. I'm hooked.

This unit is amazing! Even in crowded areas, the Magellan 4250 is very accurate. I hate to admit that ME (myself) is usually in the "wrong".

There was one time when I was so sure that I could find an address that I just didn't bother to program the Magellan 4250 for the job. Was I ever sorry. I got lost and spent 1/2 hour driving in circles. Finally, I consulted the GPS unit and the address I was looking for -- just happened to be on the other end of town. Argh! I felt so stupid about my mistake. However, next time, I will be sure to use the Magellan 4250 and avoid another nightmare like this one. Great price for the exceptional performance.

I will be returning this unit. Got it a week ago for a trip to LA. You enter the destination and the unit determines the route with just one of four very general options, then you can't modify the route in any way. Several times I had specified "Most use of freeways", but it ran me around city streets like a rat in a maze, when a straight freeway route was available. Heading back to LAX from Norwalk, it had me exit off 105, drive 1.6 miles on a surface street paralleling the 105 right above it, then get BACK ON 105! Also, the voice command is EXTREMELY limited and the microphone is not at all sensative, so you have to shout and it's useless at freeway speed, also negating the bluetooth function for cell phone use. With it's 2 most touted features, the voice command and bluetooth, useless, and the unit playing pinball with me through city streets.....it's going back!

Great Voice Commands

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Have had head to head comparison of the unit with a Garmin StreetPilot. The Magellan gave better and more accurate directions every time. Have put in my own POI's for Geocaching. This eliminates the U-turns that geocachers make while hunting a cache. The Garmin handheld is more accurate in the woods, but the Magellan is more accurate in the car. Best thing is it can go in any vehicle I am caching in with friends. Follows every voice command within seconds. I have not had a problem with this function. If someone does it is possibly because they don't know how this works. You don't need to yell or scream, just speak naturally. Love the Bluetooth for the phone. Works very well.

This is much better than my Garmin 2720. Voice Command feature is perfect. I completely disagree with the other feedback that it has a poor voice command response. Perhaps he/she doesn't really know how to modulate his/her voice. I have'nt had any problems encountered with this product since the very first day I used it. Highly recommended to everybody.

Voice commands too buggy
By GPS user from Parlin, Nj on 11/27/2007
Pros:
Acquires Satellites Quickly
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The first thing I would like to say is, Yes it acquires satellites quickly, but,

The unit is very slow to re-route. Second thing is that, the voice commands are buggy at best and at times can lock up, well, at lease with the 4250 that I had tried. Like the idea of the voice command, and at times it will work, but not to the point of every command. You may sit their talking low, to the point of yelling at the thing to make a page turn. Well, that was the reason I brought the unit because of the voice command, but this unit is going back. IT'S JUST TO SLOW... Maybe because of the new tech in the unit. Maybe the next model the bugs maybe be fixed

I also tried the Magellan Maestro 4040 which seemed faster when re-routing.
Tried the TOMTOM 720 as well, and really liked the screen and maps, really has a nice look to it, but not enough points of interest on the TOMTOM 720. I also understand that the TOMTOM 920T or 920 had voice command as well. May try that one out...
