No, I would not recommend this to a friend
My 10 year old MAP 330 has more detail, and search results than the Triton 300.
The only way to search for locations (cities, rivers, etc.) is to already know the lon/lat of what you are searching for using the preloaded base map.
In order to get better roadways on the display, or improve the search ability of the Triton 300 is to purchase other software and load it into the GPS, which the 300's limited memory greatly restricts.
Don't waste your time and money on this GPS.
